Can teachers REALLY make a difference?
Trust me, this is not a teacher bashing question. I've taught for 15 years so maybe it's burn out. But in recent years, I am seeing no improvement in my students from the beginning of the school year to the end. It's not that they aren't learning the curriculum I am teaching, they do. But my real issue is this: Each year, I have 7 to 10 students at the top of the class in September who are the same 7 to 10 at the top in June. There are 3 to 4 very low performing students who are still the lowest in June. the middle 20 or so are still the middle 20. In other words, my A and B (advanced and proficient) students are still A and B students, my C students (basic) are still C students.
This is 6th grade by the way. When I taught first grade, I saw tremendous growth in almost all my students. Is this just the nature of sixth grade? Or am I missing the whole point of teaching? Can teachers bring a majority of the class from basic (or lower) to proficient or advanced? If you teach intermediate grades, I'd appreciate some advice.
5 AnswersTeaching1 decade agoHow do you link a website made with Dreamweaver to a PDF doc?
My site is up and running just fine. I created a PDF file which is saved on my computer under Adobe Reader 9. I then saved a copy to the root folder that holds all the files for my web site. I then highlight the words I want to link, say NEWSLETTER, then I go to Insert > Hyperlink. In the new window I use browse, find the root folder, which is saved on my dest top, then click the newsletter.pdf that I want opened when people click on it.
When I test it in IE from my Dreamweaver software the link works fine. I upload to my server. When I check the site online, click the link, I get "page not found."
What am I missing here?
It worked just fine for the last PDF file I had to link to. The only difference that I remember is that my root folder was originally on a flash drive, but I was afraid of losing the flash drive, so I copied my root folder to my desk top. Now when I work on the site, I do so from the desk top root folder.
