I joined the U.S. Air Force after graduating from high school. They trained me as an Aeromedical Specialist, which is a medic who specializes in care and treatment of flying personnel. I was also a member of the crash ambulance crew, flew air rescue, and we performed physical exams, treated patients, etc. Just before my 4 year USAF hitch was up I suffered a broken neck, a fracture of C-6 and have what is called Brown-Sequard Syndrome. I initially was paralyzed on my right side and relearned to do everything again. I was medically retired from the USAF in 1983. Prior to my injury I had a job lined up as Office Manager for a 4 physician Orthopedic group in Springfield, MA. I am a single parent of a 15 year old genius. I suffer from severe, chronic pain as a result of my spinal cord injury. I am thankful for my recovery as many veterans are much worse off than me. Y'all need to thank a veteran every time you see one for his/her service to our country. They sacrificed for you.
