A question about intercoms and static.?
A few years ago, we purchased some intercoms from Radio Shack: we have a large basement, and its easier to use the intercom than to yell down the stairs to talk to someone. They are simple 3-channel intercoms that plug into the wall (they arn't like walkie-talkies).
However, over the past few years, the intercoms will, at random times, burst into odd-sounding static. There is no particular pattern, and there are no voices. Only one of two of the intercoms will be affected at a time.
It's actually rather creepy. If I were the type to believe in paranormal activity, I expect I'd believe it to be ghosts trying to communicate - the noises are that odd.
However, I believe the noises are simply caused by residual static charges built up in the house. When the electricity builds up, it causes the intercoms to act up.
Is my theory sound? Or is there another rational reason for the intercoms to be doing this?
