  • I would like a bit of advice.?

I really do love horses. I took lessons at one point, only for a few months before I had to move away. That was about 3 years ago, and I've moved a few times since then. But I could never find any other place to take lessons or I couldn't afford lessons. But now I feel I can. Not.. a lot of lessons, Maybe once a week or every two weeks depending on the price. I really want to start riding again. But I can't find a place to take lessons. Anywhere. You'd think It would be easy considering I live in rural Alberta but.. nothing! And I guess it doesn't make it easier that I'm almost 22 and I don't drive or anything.

Does anyone have any ideas or something? I do want to learn.. I just have no other way to do that aside from books and the internet, sadly. I've asked around, looked online, I keep an eye on the bulletin boards around the town but no luck. It's a little discouraging.

  • A few questions about Ereaders..?

I want to get one for my friends birthday, but I want it to be a surprise. So If I go around asking him a whole bunch of questions he'll get suspicious. I was wondering what brand and type and all that.. I don't have THAT much money so I'm not looking at top of the line stuff but a basic ereader, preferably with a back-light.

And.. I'm unsure about which brand. Kindle or Kobo.. I have a Kobo and the only thing I dislike about it is the lack of back-light, which isn't an issue. And there are some books that I cannot get but I'll just buy the actual book itself. But.. I don't know much about Kindle, not enough to make a good comparison. I'd like some opinions on which is better.

Okay, I'm moving into the middle of nowhere Alberta and I want to start taking riding lessons again. I'm not where near the stage of owning my own horse or leasing one so please don't say to do that. And I'm still beginner when it comes to horses. What I'd like to know is if anyone knows where I can get some riding lessons. I'll be living near the Bonnyville/Cold Lake area, which is about 3 hours north east of Edmonton, and 7 hours away from Calgary. I've googled this and had no luck so far, so I'm asking you guys

    Thank you all. :)

  • My dog ate a cadbury scream egg?

he is about 5 years old, no more then 25 pounds. A Poodle/Lasha Apso mix. He found a way onto the table while I went to wash my hands and ate my Cadbury Scream egg. I'm keeping a close eye on him but I'm not sure what to do.

  • Need advice please and thank you.?

There is a hole in my garage roof, and a birds built a nest in it. Its not a big deal really but a baby fell out of it. We attempted to put it back, we didn't touch it at all, we used an old shovel and a bit of wood. But we found the baby on the ground again. So we put him in a shoe box filled with leaves and set him up high where our dogs can't get him. I googled and thats what it said to do. Hopefully the mom will still feed him but.. I don't know w hat else to do. Should I call a vet or something? I don't think I'd be able to care for a baby bird at all. I'm in Ontario if that helps at all.

  • How much water should you give?

I was reading one book and it said that you should give your horse free access to water. Let him drink how ever much he pleases. And then another book says only give your horse around 8 gallons a day to drink. How much should you really give your horse? Should you let him have free access to water? I'm confused.

By the way, I don't actually own a horse, so no worries about that yet. :)

  • Question about books...?

I'm a major bibliophile (Lover of books) So when, like right now, I don't have any actual involvement with horses I read up on the subject. But one thing I can never find is a book on horse tack. At all. I have books for everything else under the sun about horses, breeds, care, I've even ordered texts books online related to horses.

But I can never find a book that gives me a decent rundown on all types of tack. Different sorts of saddles and things like that. Even if its simply one type, like Western or English or just saddles or something. Anything would be good! Some of the books I have give a brief overview of some of the basic stuff, saddle, saddle pad and what not. Nothing really informative, though.

Does anyone know where I can find a book like that? I don't mind ordering a book online either, so that isn't an issue.

  • EHV-1? (20 Characters)?

I've been hearing a lot about this, mostly vague questions on Y!A. So far the only information I've been able to come across is where and where is not infected. Useful I suppose but not exactly what I'm looking for. I know I don't have to worry about it, seeing as how I don't have a horse. But I'm still curious.

So what precautions people are taking for the virus?

  • What do you look for in a stable?

I saw a question on here a few moments ago about someone wanting to open a boarding stable. It got me wondering what people look for in them. Of course most people would want drama free and safe facilities and what not. But anything else one would look for? Just wondering. I thought it may be an interesting career path to look into.

  • Going back into lessons :D?

I used to take riding lessons but I had to move, but now I'm back home. I'm planning on continuing my lessons. Not right away, though. I want a job and my license before that. I don't want my mom paying for everything like she did when I started. I want to pay for everything myself. I even got my boots in to be fixed. I didn't have any other shoes for a while and wore them walking to and from work. >< Bah.

I didn't take lessons for very long to begin with. Only a few months before I had to move. I'm a little nervous about taking lessons again. The person who used to give me lessons isn't there anymore. She'll be back at the end of summer though. Also my mother won't be taking lessons with me this time.

So has anyone else taken a break from lessons or horses or even competing? Just curious. :)

  • Books to read? Any suggestions?

At the moment the only way I can learn about horses is through reading about them. And I didn't bring my giant collection of horsey books with me when i moved. I can only fit so much in a suitcase. But there is a book store a town over that can order books for me, and one can never have too many books, right? Hehe. So I was wondering if there is any books out there you guys would recommend for a beginner to read. I already have this giant book on horse breeds.. one for nervous riders, one on the basics of owning a horse.. a few on the history. Can't remember the titles right now though. ^.^ Thanks a bunch!

  • Pat Parelli...? <20 characters>?

I've been 'hearing' a lot about this guy and got curious. It seems no one has a good thing to say about this man and his training methods. And to me it seems like a bunch of bologna and I'm very new to this stuff. I really don't think you need to put a tarp over your horses head to teach it anything.

I'm just curious as to what people think of him and his bizarre training methods.

I had another question I just can't remember for the life of me what it was...

  • I'm moving back home.?

Okay a while ago I moved away from home and my riding lessons. There is no place here for them so I had to stop taking them. (I'm not that good anyway but its fun :P ) But in May, I know its far away, I'm moving back home. And my dad is giving me his old.. beater car. So I can get my license and obviously start taking lessons again! I'm really excited.

So just to have some sort of question have any of you had a sort of hiatus from horses for any particular reason? Just curious. ^.^

  • I kind of want a fish...?

But I'm not really sure what kind. My experience with fish has always been through my friends or at the groceries store sadly. Im living with my sister and she doesn't want a pet because she doesn't want to clean up after it. So I'm thinking like a fish. One that doesn't need a really really big fish tank, or a companion. I'm thinking like a beta fish or something because apparently they don't like other fish anyway. Any advice would be good, please. And keep in mind that it will probably be on my nightstand so it can't need a big tank. As much as I would love to have a Collection of colourful fish in a nice big aquarium it isn't quite plausible at the moment.

  • Anyone near Cold Lake, AB?

Or Bonnyville Alberta? I'm trying to find places to continue my riding lessons. I know to check around when I get their but I can be sort of impatient about certain things, and want to know if you guys have any recommendations on which one is better and what not.

And in case this isn't a legitimate question, what was the first thing of horse 'stuff' you got? Like book or a toy or something. Mine was a book, cant remember the name.

So I got my official move date. The 8th of October. So just now I was looking for lessons around Bonnyville/Coldlake Alberta, and I have a few questions.

    1. I'm going to try western, so what are the things I can do with Western? Like Barrel Racing, Western Pleasure, things like that. I would greatly appreciate it if someone could explain them in detail.

    2. Does anyone know any good places to take lessons in that area?

Ugh I had another question but I forgot it. oh well.

So answer one or both, or not at all. Every answer will be greatly appreciated, thanks :)
