  • Anyone good with electric currents etc. specifically coil guns?

Alright well I'm planning to build a coil gun, and I don't want to jump into the project ignorant. I was hoping someone could help me with a few (more like a lot of) questions.

I understand how they work in a nut shell, a wire (probably copper) is wrapped around a tube, which leads to a capacitor, which leads to a switch, and then the circuit is completed. When the switch is activated, the capacitor sends a pulse to the coil, magnetizing it. This attracts possible ammunition to the center of the coil. The pulse is then subdued and the inertia of the projectile causes it to fly past the coil, out of the barrel, and hopefully into a target.

If I made an error, please feel free to correct me.

    My questions include the following:

    1. How would I wrap the coil for it to be the most efficient? Would the amount of layers, for example affect the velocity of the projectile?

    2. Is copper the best choice?

    3. What would be a good capacitor to use? (I know that is probably an ignorant question, but what is the most amount of joules I could have within a certain volume?)

    4. Is there a point of power at which the system would overload or not work?

    5. Where along the barrel would the coil best be placed?

I'm sure I have a plenty of more questions I've forgotten, so I'll probably be updating this. In the mean time, I'd appreciate any advice. Thanks!

  • Recognize this old song?

Ok I realize I'm not giving you much to work off of but I heard a song earlier that I remember from when I was a kid but I can't remember the name of it for the life of me. It included the word changing but that's all I heard because it ended basically as soon as I heard it. It sounded a lot like the byrds and it's not bob dylans times they are achanging.

  • FALLOUT 3 - Reaching Level 30...?

Alright well, I downloaded Broken Steel, and I am a level 26. Unfortunately, along with the DLC, They didn't even give us enough quests or even things to kill to actually REACH the new level cap. There were previously two leveling up glitches that broken steel patches, and removing the patch would be unproductive since without broken steel you can't level up past level 20. If anyone knows of something I can do or somewhere I could go to level up fast... It would be GREATLY appreciated.
