The book starts off with a legend that vampires ruled the Earth. Then they lose control to humans. After years of war it comes down to a single battle, The Great Battle, and the vampires start losing. When the moon hits its highest point in the sky it turns red and it empowers the vampires and gives them victory. After the humans retreat they sign a blood treaty that says the humans will stay out of vampire affairs and vice versa, also the vampires will stay hidden and not try to take control of the planet again. Flash forward to present day. The main charcter, 17, sneaks out of his home and takes a walk. He finds this girl being attacked and he runs to help her only to get his *** kicked and almost killed. He passes out and wakes up with a girl looking down at him. He sits up and the girl tells him what happened. He finds out that he has been turned into a vampire. He gets dressed and the girl takes him to the person in charge and there he gets recruited into a vampire/human gang.
