  • How do you say "I love you" to the man you are in love with?

I know that is a stupid question, but those three words have me totally paralyzed. I am not afraid of rejection since he has spoken those words to me. I know that I am in love with him, but why is it so difficult to say those words back to him? I should mention that we are both in our 50s... both married and divorced once...he's had a couple of serious relationships in the past 20 years (has been single for nearly a year)... I've had a few casual relationships...nothing serious until now......we are no where near that age mentally... I feel like I am 16. He acts like he is 18... lol... I truly believe this is the first time I've ever been in love... even though I was married for over 20 years. Do I just blurt those words out? What in the world am I afraid of? I know that he is waiting to hear those words from me and is being very patient. For all you younger people .. it doesn't get easier as you get older!

  • Last week I interviewed for a position with a company. I was informed today that the job went internally.?

They told me that they would like me to interview for the soon- to-be vacant position left by the person who took the other job. Well, when I interviewed last week, I was under the impression that I was already being considered for that position, since all the questions I was asked were based on what this position would entail and was told that there was a potential supervisor position opening that they felt I was a fit.

So, now I am driving 60 miles round trip to meet with two of the same people I already met with. I can't imagine what is left to ask. But, I'll go because I need a job. My question, is this... given the fact that they know I am interested and they've already met me...and they know that I'll be commuting for about 5 months if I am hired, is it out of line for me to call HR and inquire on the salary range? If it is nowhere near what I need, it isn't worth my time or theirs. It is going to cost me $500 +/mo in gas. Stuck in a lease until 3/09.

  • terminated from my job at 7pm this evening....?

I can't believe it. I was totally blindsided. I WAS a plant manager...worked 4 hours beyond the regular work day because of a late delivery....yeah, what a delivery...got the goods and a termination notice all in one lump. No reason, nothing....just told that the company owner was making some changes. I spoke to him 3 times on the phone throughout the day. No forwarning...nothing. My immediate boss had no clue this was happening. She was shocked. So, what now? I allowed myself 1 1/2 hours of mourning...have downed a 1/2 bottle of wine.. now I need a job. This is the second time I was terminated with no forwarning. The first time was basically a mass layoff. This time.. I don't know.. he didn't even have the nerve to tell me himself. Any advice? I have a whole $900 in my savings account... about the same in my checking. I'll be homeless come July 1 if I don't find something. soon...I know he'll fight unemployment benefits. I don't even know why I was let go...

  • approaching boss about a raise...should I be concerned?

I am a plant manager for a small production company. Two weeks ago, based on the reviews I submitted to the company owner, every individual in my company got a raise...except me. I am salary based, while they are hourly. The raises were based on the performance of the company. If they all earned raises is it wrong of me to feel that I am successfully doing my job? I do earn an annual bonus based on production, but quite honestly, that year end bonus isn't putting gas in my tank today. Is it normal for salaried individuals to not get a raise? Am I stuck at this salary forever and have to rely on the year end bonus for any incentive? I've had other salaried positions and have gotten annual raises, but have never gotten a bonus. Could it mean that he may be contemplating replacing me? It's happened once and I guess I am still a little leery when it comes to things like this. There is no employee manual for me to check this out.

  • help in getting results from general contractors?

I have been dealing with three different contractors for 3 weeks now to get a bid on building a storage shed and doing cosmetic work to the exterior of the company I work with. I've gotten promises from all 3 that I'd have a bid "asap", but have received only 1 of the 3....and his bid doesn't include half the work I requested. I've phoned these people 3 times each, one couldn't remember who I was each time I called (he's been crossed off my list)...the other one keeps promising to drop off a detailed bid. How long am I suppose to reasonably give these guys? You'd think with the state of economy as it is, these guys would jump at the chance to get work.

My biggest concern is answering to the owner of the company. He keeps asking for these bids... I keep telling him that I am in contact with these contractors and am waiting ... I don't want it to look like I am incapable of following through with this task! Do I start all over with new contractors?

  • I am a salaried employee and have a question about hours I work.?

I am the only salaried employee in my company and was under the impression that as long as I worked a minimum of 40 hours a week, I was covered. In the year I worked with the company, I have never worked less than 45 hours a week... more often 55 to 60 hours. I recently took a Friday off, but had already worked 41 hours that week. I also took the following Monday and Tuesday off, and worked 36 hours in the next three days. In submitting my time, I requested 4 hours vacation.

I have been informed that I cannot do this.. I must take 3 days' vacation for those days I did not work, even though I had worked extra hours. I was told that is why I get a year end bonus (based on productivity of the co.).

I am not allowed to make up hours if I take a day off. So, I continue to "volunteer" my time to assure a year end bonus, yet cannot assign those extra hours I work to time off.

Anyone else experience this? I love my job so I'll continue doing so, but it is just so frustrating!

  • By law, a past employer only needs to provide the starting and ending dates of a previous employee...?

...when called for a reference. However, can that previous employer voluntarily offer any more details in reference to the work ethics, attendance, performance, attitude that might be beneficial in helping the new employer make a hiring decision? I have an employee who quit yesterday. She would have been fired if she hadn't quit first. Her attendance was horrendous and her performance was all over the place... needless to say, her attitude was not the best. If I'd had this information prior to hiring her, I might have reconsidered and saved myself the headaches she caused. I have documented, concrete facts to back anything I might offer to a potential new employer, including a signed statement from her.

  • How to handle employees who are disgruntled with their pay rate?

I am a plant manager and in general, I have a good group of employees. I let them know that every single day

However, lately, they are expressing their displeasure with their salary. Honestly, it isn't the best and while I don't let them know, I do agree with their complaints. My salary is not exactly competitive, either. However, I know that my choices are very few and far between given my location and the field I work in.

While I submit requests for raises, it is ultimately up to the company owner to decide who gets a raise. I have had a few who have made the comment that they are not going to produce more for the pittance they get paid, but what they don't understand is that I can't justify a raise if they refuse to produce more than the minimum (and sometimes less). I have told them this. Short of replacing them with others, any words of advise to instill a better work ethic in them?

BTW, they are being paid pretty much the standard for this area.

  • Does anyone know of a good online program for filing corp taxes?

I have a very small business that is an Scorp...made absolutely no money ...income is pretty much equal to expenses and I do not draw a salary. Once again I have put off till the last minute to file taxes. In reading some of the questions asked by others, am I correct in that I have to do this by March 15? (that was yesterday!!!!). I also worked full time for another company and have w2 forms for those jobs. I will be taking standard deductions since I don't have enough to itemize. I am hoping I can just find a program online that will take me step by step. Oh... also have nothing that will be depreciated. Am I making a big mistake by trying to do this myself? help!

  • I am production supervisor and have an employee that I believe is backstabbing me in an attempt to get my job.

This employee has been with the company for 3 years. I have been with the company for 8 months. She transferred from the main office to my location 5 weeks after I was hired. My boss encouraged me to use her as a resource since she is familiar with the standards he is looking for. He informed me that she is one of his best producers so it is important to keep her in my employ. On the days when I am extremely busy, she offered to contact the main office with any issues. I welcomed this but found out that she is doing this daily after hours reporting on my performance. She tells me that she has been designated to take on special projects, but that she can't discuss because they are confidential. Because of her history with the company, my boss trusts her input. A superior will be visiting my plant this week and the employee has eluded that I may be terminated. I have done the job as told, but I fear her reports do not convey this. How do I defend myself? I can't lose this job!
