If the messiah really did return, what would he/she have to do to prove it?
A few miracles? But they could be faked by a well-financed magician. Who would judge?
Predicting the exact weather or the stock market for N days in succession? How large should N be?
Suppose he/she offered free tours of heaven (return tickets of course)?
Any ideas? How do we separate the foreign spies, crackpots, evil-doers, deluded innocents, etc. from the real saviour, especially in today's high-tech world where any sufficiently advanced technology is indistinguishable from magic?
11 AnswersReligion & Spirituality9 years agoIs it true that Yahoo Answers will no longer post questions or answers containing the phrase...?
Containing the phrase, I cannot post it explicitly, but it is the name of a very large web-based bookseller that fits the following template "A_azon.com" where the blank is the letter "m"
4 AnswersYahoo Answers10 years agoDo sewage system designers have to consider the intestinal health of the users?
I ask because I was a little constipated today, and when things finally got straightened out the toilet was plugged - that little hole at the bottom was just a little too small for the dense slug that tried to squeeze through (talk about pinching a loaf!). Anyway, it occurred to me that in western countries, where inadequate roughage is consumed, toilets may need "looser" design criteria than in places where Big Mac is unheard of.
1 AnswerEngineering10 years agoIs Yahoo Answers mainly just a lazy person's way of getting others to check Wikipedia?
At least in the sciences, which is where I tend to lurk, most of the questions are easily answered by either looking them up in Wikipedia, or doing a simple Google search. What going on?
Of course homework questions may be too specific to find such answers easily, which raises my 2nd question:
Why do so many people post homework questions under the assumption that complete strangers on the other side of the world are in possession of the exact same textbook and course materials?
Unless it's only meant for your classmates, the question must include ALL THE RELEVANT BACKGROUND INFO (images, meanings of abbreviations, etc).

Suppose you have a 1 Farad capacitor charged up to 1 volt. Then the charge is:
Q = CV = 1 Coulomb,
and the energy stored is:
E = CV^2/2 = 1 F (1 V)^2/2= 0.5 Joule
Now, you get a second identical capacitor and connect it in parallel with the first one. The charge equalizes to 0.5 Coulomb on each capacitor. Now the voltage on each capacitor is:
V = Q/C = 0.5 V/ 1 F = 0.5 V,
and the energy on each capacitor is:
CV^2/2 = 1 F (0.5 V)^2/2 = 0.125 J
The total energy on both capacitors is now just 0.25 J
Where did the other half of the energy go?
