  • How can I tell if my parrots wound is healing?

I have a grey that I pulled from a home where the person should have taken him to a vet and failed. He has a wound where a cyst fell off. He has seen a vet and will be going back in. But I am curious, what do healing bird wounds tend to look like? It gets smaller, but always looks gross. Is that normal? He's happy, eating, talking and active. Other than the wound he seems normal. He goes in on tues again.

  • Need help with Cockatoo's feather plucking. Experienced handlers only please!?

Hi! Before I start, I was aware before taking Izzy on that cockatoos are NOT easy birds. I am not giving up, and I am simply looking for outside input by experienced handlers. I have a veterinary appointment on Wednesday. That was the soonest. Izzy was recently given to me by a lady who had a bird collecting problem and the neighbors began complaining. She was in a tiny, tiny cage with no toys. She has been in four homes. I did notice before I got her, the onset of plucking and chewing. It did not progress so I left her alone, but did baths twice a day. Well just this last week she began rubbing her vent on me constantly. She gets very intense when she does this. It's definitly sexual. However, she has begun chewing her rump and plucking even more. It's going to be really bad if it doesn't stop. I have tried bitter spray to discourage her, which failed. I don't want a collar, she'll never trust me again. And I don't think she will sit still to put a vest on. The vet wants to check her for infection. I'm going to get a full panel done of course, but I'm not thinking this is a contagious disease. The rest of my flock is in full feather and amazing health. Izzy eats oatmeal, veggies, and eggs every day. She's not a fan of fruit. She doesn't get a lot of seed. She goes on walks with me and is handled and cuddled daily. I can't stand watching this until Wednesday! Is there anything I can do to help her? Do you think this is a sexual issue at 14 years old? It is spring. I'm just worried and looking for input. Please, no bashing, I'm doing everything I can.

  • I need some names of some quality puppy food!?

Puppy is pooping every 45 minutes, not diarrhea. She's not sick, but I think it may be her food. She's on Euekanuba puppy right now. Blue Buffalo gave her bad gas. What do you like? And why?

  • HELP! My chi mix is vomiting clear fluid, Not eating or drinking, and she's not pooping!?

She refuses to get off the couch. I take her out to go pee and she does neither. She won't eat or drink. I gave her water in a dropper and she puked it up. She seems thin, even though this is the first day of symptoms. They got very noticible this afternoon. Before you rant, she has the soonest available appointment with a vet which is early in the am. I'm so worried! I've had a parvo dog before and it was nothing like this. What could this be? Anything I can do to help her through the

night? I can't stop thinking about it! There are only three vets in this area, all overbooked. The nearest is six hours away, and they would be closed by the time I got there.

  • I have chi pug mix with Mild Luxating patella, can she have baby aspirin?

I'm so confused. My vet in the last city I lived in says yes, my current vet says no. I've heard baby asprin is okay, but now I'm not sure. Should I ask another vet? Is there something OTC at the pet store I can try?

  • Odd question. Does the attorney general investigate POA abuse?

I think someone is blowing smoke up someones yoo hoo if you catch my drift. Family is fighting right now. Someone is saying they got letter from the attorney generals office that they are investigating fraud on my dads accounts. He's in a nursing home. I think the person saying this is just mad they aren't POA. The attorney general doesn't do that right? Just seems fishy to me. There is no fraud going on to start with.

  • I Re-homed one of my dogs today and feel horrible! Does it get easier?

It was a hard decision to make. I have never rehomed a dog before. Here's why: my beagle, who is not capable of a succsessful re home, recently began bullying Ollie. To the point she wouldn't allow him to eat. Mind you Daisy has never injured him, just intimidated him. This was strange for her as she is timid, due to her abusive home I pulled her from two years ago. I've done everything I possibly can, and Ollie was miserable. He hides from her, won't play with the other dogs in fear of being

attacked. He's only two years old, and I knew I could find him an excellent home. He is the only dog, with a 12 year old boy. Perfect match. As much as I know I did what was right and that he will be happier there, I feel sick. I knew it would be hard, but this hard!? I felt like they took my dog. I can't sleep because I'm worried about him(no reason to though). I keep crying. I feel so guilty. I've never given up on a pet. Will this get easier? Has anyone been through this? If you are going to bash me just skip this post. I'm really really upset right now, and just need to get through this. Maybe sort things out.

  • Do they give the same dosage vaccinations to all adult dogs no matter what their size?

I've always wondered this, and is the topic of discussion right now. When they vax dogs, would the dose be the same for a chiuauah as a great Dane?

  • Signs my cockatiels are breeding or have eggs?

I have had a few clutches from proven pairs, they all did the work on their own! No questions asked. I have one pair that is a little different this time! They have been acting differently(I observe daily).

My female and male take turns sitting, not roosting, on top of the nest box, not in it. They both go in it as well. But they just go in, throw bedding around then step out again. My girl eats a lot lately. Her poo was runny this morning. They are very playful. They don't preen each other too much, but they follow each other around the cage. What do you think? What are some other signs? This is an odd couple for me!

  • Does my leopard Gecko know when to quit eating?

She won't over eat will she? I brought her home a week ago. She is about five inches long. She ate 15 small crickets in 24 hours! Now daily she can eat two wax worms, meal worms and 3-5 crickets a day! Is that too much?

  • Do tiels just like to fluff up more than other birds?

I notice my tiels puff up a lot. They are vetted. Healthy, active, playful, large birds. I notice they stay puffy a little more than my larger parrots. Is it from the weather change? I use heat lamps as well. The vet didn't seem concerned.

  • Who would you report a pet store to?

I recently checked out a pet store in my area and here's what I found.

    Bettas in brown water

    Filthy fish tanks

Aggressive and terrified birds. Their wings looked like they were clipped with safety scissors, they were shredded! Their birds were very skinny. Their tiels were grossly overpriced, and sick. Claiming they are hand fed when they are aggressive and terrified. They are kept in tiny finch cages with no toys.

There was a sick newt drying out in a fish bowl.

The worst, they had a ton of puppies. It just screamed puppy mill! They had wire under their paws. Tiny, dirty cages. The puppies were mixed breeds, and being sold for $700. The pups were skinny, dirty, and too young to be away from mom.

I felt so bad for these animals. It w disgusting.

Who can I call? I saw other reviews similar to mine online as well.

  • Does anyone else have a male cockatiel that likes to rummage on the bottom of the cage?

He's not sick. He just plays around. Pushes a dish around(it's quite funny). He's got a new girlfriend and he sits down there pulling up bedding from the bottom of the cage. Is he trying to nest? My other tiels don't do this. He is definitely not sick. He was vet checked last month. He's active and chipper.

  • Does my grey cockatiel have some sort of mutation gene?

He is not as dark as my other grey cockatiels. He's light grey, and more of a pastel yellow. He has some small white spots between his shoulders, and on the tops of his wings. Not as much as a pear though. His tail has some white dusting as well.

  • Nest box for cockatiels, will they use it?

I normally attach nest boxes to the side of the cage but I'm in a pickle. One of my sets of tiels are mating. I don't want to stress them out by moving them into another cage. The nest box can only go at the bottom of the cage for now. I can't do anything until Friday. If she lays eggs beforehand will she still use it? Thanks.

  • Just curious! If your male cockatiel is a standard grey and his mate is a cinnamon pearl pastel.....?

What would their offspring be? I'm fascinated by the mutations. I'm trying to understand them better.

  • How can I get my dog to come when called?

He is a jack russel corgi mix. He's very sweet. He spends his time in the house or in his outdoor dog run. He is good on walks as well. I have little kids that run in and out all day. Sometimes he shoots out the door and runs off. He always comes home, but he runs out on the busy road. I fear for his safety. But feel bad because he has to be contained all the time. He's really stubborn. He doesn't come when called. I have to get in my car to catch him. I feel like a jailer sometimes. Please, I don't need rants on my mixed breed choice. I'm looking for training ideas. I love my dog.
