Is it feasible to build a custom clock out of parts from other clocks?
I've been sketching some ideas for a custom clock I'd like to build with the inner workings of the movement exposed. Normally, I'd just cut all the required pieces myself, but since I moved I no longer have access to the tools I'd need for precision metal work.
My question: is it realistic to attempt to build a clock by disassembling older clock movements and rearranging the components? I assume that at the least I'd need to buy parts from very similar clocks or the various gears wouldn't match up at all.
On a related note, does anyone know if there is anywhere I could have custom movement parts fabricated?
