  • What to feed a horse to make them feel fuller?

    I know hay is the best answer from a slow feeder net but my horse has chewed through 3 nets in one week and I can't afford to keep replacing them so hay isn't really an option for me. Are there any supplements to help make them feel full? I know weight builder and beetpulp add calories but do they also make them feel fuller? I just started him on weight builder as he is a little on the skinny side. He's an 8 year old TB gelding who has mild-moderate work every week. He is healthy just had the vet out for his annual.

  • Tips for growing impatiens?

    I was looking for a flower that did well with only a few hours of sun as I live in an apartment and the balcony doesn't get much sun. From what I read impatiens are a good way to go. I know they need to be watered often but not too much or they might get a fungus. I'm not sure about fertilizer though. Do I need it? They will be in a small planter, what's the best potting mix for them and insect killer sprays? Any advice is welcome :)

  • Best calming supplement?

    I have an 8 yo TB gelding who is in general a bit on the hot side. He's been on stall rest for 6 months for a tendon injury and I'm starting to bring him back but he's got all this pent up energy and likes to buck while being lunged. I'm afraid he will re-injure himself. He's also more on edge now, stupid little things will scare him and he use to be pretty good. Looking for a good supplement to calm him down.

  • help with balancing equations?

    The first 2 compounds are given and you are suppose to finish and balance the equation. Please check my states too.

    Original: Ca(OH)2(s) + H3PO4(aq) --->

    What I got (is wrong though): 2Ca(OH)2(s) + 2H3PO4(aq) ---> 2CaPO4(aq) + 4H2O(l) + H2(g)

    Original: LiHCO3(s)+HNO3--->

    What I got (is wrong though): LiNO3(aq)+H2O(l)+HCO2(g)

  • molarity of acetic acid?

    A 16.0mL sample of vinegar, which is an aqueous solution of acetic acid, CH3COOH, requires 22.5mL of 0.650M NaOH to reach the endpoint in a titration. What is the molarity of the acetic acid solution?

    CH3COOH(aq)+ NaOH(aq)--->NaCH3COO(aq)+ H2O(l)

    (pretty sure the equation is balanced)

    Does this sound like a good deal without sacrificing too much quality?

  • Molarity from a pressure problem?

    1) A 330mL sample of a HCl solution reacts with excess Mg to produce 4.05L of H2 gas measured at 745 mmHg and 35Celsius.

    Mg(s) + 2HCl(aq) -->MgCl2(aq) + H2

    What is the molarity of the HCl solution?

    Is this a PV=nRT problem? and the n would be the molarity?

    The balanced equation for questions 2&3 is: NiCl2(aq) + 2NaOH(aq) ---> Ni(OH)2(s) + 2NaCl(aq)

    2) How many milliliters of 0.200M NaOH are needed to react with 28.0mL of 0.500M NiCl2 solution?

    I thought this was a M1V1=M2V2 and solved for V2, I got 11.2mL but it said I was wrong.

    3) How many grams of Ni(OH)2 are produced from the reaction of 25.0mL of 1.75M NaOH solution?

    Not sure how to do this one...

  • half-life, help! 10PTS!?

    I don't really understand half life other than it is t1/2 and that if a half life is 6 hours and the half life of that is 3 hours etc. No idea how to actually work a problem though.

    1) a patient if given 0.050mg of technetium-99m, a radioactive isotope with a half-life of about 6.0 hours. How much technetium will remain after 24 hours, after 48 hours?

    2) A patient receives a 58-mg does of I-131 to obtain an image of her thyroid. If the nuclide has a half-life of 8 days, how long will it take until less than 1 mg of I-131 remains in their body?

    3) One of the nuclides in spent nuclear fuel is U-235, an alpha emitter with a half-life of 703 million years. How long would it take for the amount of U-235 to reach one-eighth of its initial amount?

    4) Polonium-218 is an alpha emitter with a half-life of 3.0 minutes. Estimate how long it will take for a 312g sample of polonium to decay to less than 1 gram?

  • how to weigh hay, easy and cheap?

    I'm looking to buy a scale to weigh hay and as I've never done this before I'm not sure what to buy. I'm looking for the cheapest way even if it might be more difficult. My horse has been dropping weight being on stall rest for 8 months now(he's only been at this stable for 3) so I went out tonight to see the flakes and they were pathetic. I've talked to the owner before and she said they weighed their hay to 10lbs per feeding and would fire any worker who didn't, but there was no scale when they were throwing flakes and I haven't seen one in the hay barn. I'm going to start keeping track of the weight he is being fed and present it to her, I specifically moved from the last barn because they fed light and didn't care. This owner has a much bigger (about 300 stalls) place to uphold and she seems like she cares but I want proof to show her.
