  • Shave my mustache before Boot Camp? Marines?

I'm going to Parris Island on Monday morning, staying at the hotel tomorrow. I don't really have a lot of facial hair, just my mustache. I have a little afro, but I don't plan on shaving my head till I get there.

Should I shave my mustache before I go to Parris Island?

  • Little things I should know about Boot Camp? Marines?

I go to Parris Island on Monday. I'm staying at the Hotel tomorrow. Any little tips you wouldn't mind sharing?

I'm nervous. Mainly because, I DON'T KNOW HOW TO SWIM. I mainly don't know how to float. I could swim like a frog and do strokes and such.

But yeah, any little things I should do or not do when I get there and all throughout boot camp? Will be Much appreciated.

  • NFL Team(s) that's are having a good or bad offseason?

For a bad offseason, I'm gonna go with my Hometown Niners. They're cutting players and not even going after their free agents. The Niner fan had thoughts that they were trying to get Nnamdi, but that's done with. There's still hope. Still some good names out there with positions we need to fill. I just hope York gets his head out of his @ss.

For a good offseason. For this team, they've had the BEST offseason so far. The Eagles. They pulled a fast one on the Cardinals. (Yes, I think Kevin Kolb is overrated). They're gonna sign VY who could also run. He could learn a lot from Vick. and of course, they come out of nowhere and nab Nnamdi. The Eagles are gonna win their division if Vick stays healthy. Who knows, they might actually make the Superbowl and win. I'd like to see the Packers and Eagles for the NFC Championship. That'd be nice.

  • Nervous about Boot Camp? Marines?

Ship out on Monday. I was suppose to ship out Mid-September. But I passed my IST and took someone's spot for August 1st. Now that it's here, I'm nervous. Not nervous like I'm changing my mind, but nervous like, "this is really happening, looking forward to the challenge of everything"..

    Thing is..

I don't know how to swim. I mean, I know the motion of swimming and swimming like a frog. I just can't float. I'm not scared of water either.

Anybody have some information how it'll be? I'm going to Parris Island, if that means anything. Thanks in advance.

  • Need some tips for running? Going Boot Camp.?

I ship out to Parris Island this Monday, August 1st. I passed the fitness test already.11 Pull ups. 60 Crunches. 12:45 on what what we were told was a "Mile and a Half"..The one who ran it felt like it was at least, 2 miles Lol.

I could run. It's just, maybe, 4 minutes into a run, I start to lose control of my breathing. But I still keep going, I don't stop, I just keep my legs moving to keep up with others. By the time we run a mile or more, and a crap load of stairs and hills, I feel like I'm about to vomit and I'm breathing heavily to catch my breath. But I end up feeling fine 10 minutes later. If it means anything, I usually eat a light meal (Granola Bar, apple, banana) before a run. I wait like 2 hours before I get active.

So I need some tips for running. How can I control my breathing while running for long times? I've improved my running, it's the breathing that stays the same. Any tips, advice, suggestions will be GREAT! Thanks in advance.

Any other tips you have in for boot camp? Mentally and physically? Just looking for some information. Thanks in advance.

  • How much do Marines get paid while in Boot Camp and after?

I ship out to Parris Island August 1st. I was just wondering how much money I will have after I graduate at the end of October/early November. How much do you get paid after Boot Camp? As a E-1? Every 1st and 15th day, what is the total in a month's pay as a E-1?

Just looking for some answers. Thanks

  • How do I keep my PS3 clean if I won't use it for 3 months?

Where should I keep it? I'm gonna be going to boot camp on the 1st of August. Only person that plays it is myself. Should I just leave it where it's at in the open, just turning the back switch off? Just need some help on this. Thanks

  • Good decision with my PS3?

So I'm leaving to Boot Camp on August 1st. Won't be done until early/mid November. I have a 40GB PS3. It was repaired (3 months ago) for a worn out lens and thermal compound. I should be back home in time for Uncharted 3.

I'm thinking of selling my PS3 on craigslist (before boot camp) or trading it in at gamestop (after boot camp). I want to have a new PS3 Slim that could handle the next handful of amazing games. Should I sell or Should I just keep my 40GB?

On another note, how much space on a usb do I need to back up the data on my PS3? If I were to sell it.

  • Shipping off to Parris Island August 1st. HELP!?

So I passed the IST today. 11 pull-ups. 56 Crunches. 12:45 for the Mile and a Half. I was suppose to ship out September 19. But I was able to fill in for someone else.

My recruiter just gave me and call and told me the news. I'm gonna be having Training with my recruiter everyday next week. But, I'm super nervous. I know you shouldn't expect a lot, you're bound to be in stress. But still, I'm going to Parris Island. Only thing going on in my head is "S**T just got Real"..

Any tips for this? Is it normal to be nervous? Just need some insight and any kind of help on this. Thanks

  • Would someone be cool enough to tell me the basics of baseball?

All I know are, Runs, homeruns, errors, hits, steals, strikes/balls, strikeouts, walks..

Thing is, I was never really into baseball. Only basketball or football. But for a while, I've been trying to learn the sport. I actually bought "MLB 11 The Show" to try and help myself to learn it. But that plan hasn't worked out.

Would you tell me simply, what you know? What a ERA is? I guess the basics, but not the basics (if that makes any sense)

When does the starting pitcher come out the game? What's a pinch hitter? Stuff like that. It will be greatly appreciated! Great answer goes to the one with most info OR the one with a great SOURCE! Thanks

  • What is your favorite Animal(s)?

I LOVE SHARKS! Shark Week begins July 31st. So can't wait. Ever since I was a kid, (I'm 19 now) I've always loved to watch sharks in action. I mean, Lions and Tigers are cool, but Sharks beats everything, imO. Killer Whales are cool too. I guess I just love Sea Animals.

What about you? Favorite Animal and Why?

  • What should I eat for Breakfast?

So I have a IST (Initial Strength Test) on Friday. I ship out to Parris Island on September 19 but if I pass on Friday, I'll be able to ship out as soon as next month.

I have to be at the office at 6:45 AM. I'll be waking up at 5 AM to eat a good breakfast. The workouts I'll be doing at the IST are Pull-Ups (4 or more) Crunches (50 or more) Mile and a Half run (13 minutes or less)

    My choices are...

Peanut Butter sandwich (Whole Wheat Bread) and a apple

Oatmeal with sliced bananas and a apple?

Scrambled eggs, no butter, PAM, with 1 slice of toast, and an apple.

Thing is, when I eat oatmeal, I feel too full and such. I want to eat something light. Which should I eat? Keep in mind I only drink water so I'll be drinking water for breakfast.

I'm open to suggestions. But I don't want a heavy sugared breakfast. Thanks

  • Safe to have a cooling fan in front of PS3?

I'm sure there are a lot of other forums on this. SORRY. Anyways, I have a "aloha breeze tower fan" I put in front of my PS3, like 2 inches away and it rotates from left to right. I've bought Uncharted 2 today and played it for the first time on my 40GB PS3 (which was repaired for its lens and thermal compound about 4 months ago). It's in a open space. I remember playing La Noire, god of war 3 and red dead redemption and it made my PS3 go into hairdryer mode (I didn't have the fan in front)..So should I continue to have this fan in front? I've read I shouldn't because it could make the PS3 dense inside or something.

Just need some insight on this. Thanks

  • You have a playlist. Only 4 artists are allowed. What's yours? ANY GENRE?

    My playlist would have..

    J Cole

    Maroon 5

    A Tribe Called Quest

    Bone Thugs N Harmony

I could have a playlist full of those artists and do anything listening to them. Workout, play video games, clean the house, make some scrambled eggs..Lol

What would your playlist consist of?

  • What do you consider America's sport? and why?

I'm just curious to see some opinions. For me, Football is America's sport. With Baseball second. For some it's vice versa. I don't really see Basketball as America's sport. If you do, why?

Football > Basketball > Baseball > Hockey...I don't really pay attention to Baseball or Hockey. But that'll be changing sooner then later.

  • Why do Marines make fun of the Army, Vice-Versa?

So I'm joining the Marines. I go to Parris Island in September. The recruiters where I go to train like to make fun of the army. Other Marines like to make fun of the Army. People in the Army make fun of how Marines are retarded and brainwashed, seriously? Is there like a long time rivalry going on? Or is it, just cause?

When I went to MEPS there were a busload of army men. Most of em looked in their mid 30's. I was seeing what they were doing there. They were mostly goofing around and such as they were standing around for a while. Other then that, I respect all branches. I have friends and family in each branch. So I don't find any reason to make fun of a branch that does the same as the branch I'll be in. We all enlist to serve our country right?

I think for me, it's the people that act like their morons in each branch that really annoy me. But it doesn't annoy me to a point to say that the branch they are in is full of morons.

  • Can someone help me on how to train for Boot Camp? If there's any little things I should learn ahead of time?

So I leave to Parris Island on September 19. I'm 5'6" and weight about 179lbs. I was 215 last year around this time. Still overweight by 20, but I'm looking to lose at least 15lbs before Boot Camp. I've been working out. Slighty passing the fitness test. 8 Chin ups. 59 Crunches. 12:48 on the Mile and a half run. This is my workout schedule now until then. It consists of running/p90x/insanity workouts.

    Sunday - X Stretch/Run

    Monday - Cardio Abs/Chest and Back/Ab Ripper X

Tuesday - X Stretch/Run or PT with other recruits

Wednesday - Max Interval Plyo or Max Interval Circuit/ Run

Thursday - Yoga X/ PT with other recruits (If there is PT) / Ab Ripper X

Friday - Pure Cardio or Cardio Power & Balance/ Run

    Saturday - Cardio Abs/Shoulders and Arms/Ab Ripper X

I'm eating clean now. I have junk food time to time, but at least every 2-3 weeks. Not a cheat day, just a cheat meal.

Is there anything I should learn before hand? My recruiter told me that the marksmanship part should be easy for me because I never used a gun as well. I don't know how to swim. But another recruiter at the office told me that he didn't like water and know how to swim as well but he learned just fine along with other recruits. Should I practice quick showers and quick bathroom runs? Should I get my sleeping pattern normal now? I usually sleep about 6-7 hours.

Just any tips you have will be great. Just want to know if my workout schedule will do me good until then. Thanks

  • Should I buy NCAA Football 12?

I LOVE Football games. I always got Madden, never any NCAA game. Thing is, Madden 11 is just boring now and I want something new. I've heard from some people that NCAA Football is way better then Madden. Care to share some differences? Does NCAA Football have something like "superstar" That's in Madden? Are there any other fun modes? Do stats matter in NCAA Football? I'd rent it, but if it's fun, I'd just be wasting $10 bucks. Which do you prefer?

  • What's your favorite Mafia movie?

So I FINALLY watched The Godfather Trilogy. I'm 19, don't hate. I just never really came around to it. The Godfather Part 1 is Definitely in my top 3. Part two was fun to watch. Finding the history of Vito and such. I wasn't really interested in Part 3, but it was still entertaining.

My Favorite Mafia movie has to be Donnie Brasco. Followed by The Untouchables and The Godfather. I watched it when i was 14 or 15. My cousin had bought the DVD, then it started from there. Mafia movies were amazing. Al Pacino and Johnny Depp with a great supporting cast. This is a movie I'll never get tired of watching.

What's your favorite Mob movie and why? Just curious. I'm gonna be buying a crapload of Mafia movies on Amazon. Classics on Blu Ray, can't go wrong there.
