  • Tattoo idea for nonduality?

So there's this nonduality principle in Buddhism which basically states that the good is good because it is good and the bad is good because eventually it can become good. If you think of a garden, a gardener can take the waste and make compost which will then make more flowers in the garden. I really like this principle and want to get it tattooed on me, but do not know what could symbolize it. What do yall think? Thanks!

  • Gettysburg or Seton Hall?

Right now I am between the two colleges for undergrad. I was accepted to GBurg and SHU--School of Diplomacy and IR on a 92k scholarship pending honors program admission. I plan on dual majoring in polysci and IR with a minor in Arabic. I will also be part of ROTC and hopefully go active after graduation.

I am well aware that GBurg has the better reputation and ranking (Top 50 for both my majors). Although SHU has a strong and emerging School of Diplomacy, it is not well known and the school itself ranks poorly.

Academics aside, GBurg still seems like a better fit for the little things like dorming, proximity from home, GBurg's superior food courts, the much better party scene, the fact that I clicked with the students better, the athletics the school offers, the location, etc etc.

Overall, I feel like Gettysburg is the better fit for me, but is it worth the extra $30,000 a year? What do you guys think? Thanks!

  • My girlfriend wants a break or break up? Is the excuse bs? Is it real? What should I do? Is this over? I'm very confused..?

Everything has been perfectly fine. On Sunday morning I had food poisoning and she offered to come over with soup and said she wanted to make me feel better. Hours later she texted me and said she wanted us to "go our separate ways."

Background: she does have depression and had to drop out of college for it. she is on medication and has been switching between different kinds to find which works the best for her. about two weeks ago she skipped one day and has been more messed up since. Even though she was having issues, I thought it was something to get through together..

"you know i love you so much but i think its best if we go our separate ways. i just dont think i should be in a relationship right now. this past month has been the best of my life but i dont think im good for you right now. i just feel like i have a lot on my plate right now and you deserve someone who treats you how you need and i dont know if i can be that person at the moment. this is really hard for me to do, but i need to work on myself."

"i dont want to be part of a relationship that im not fully dedicated to if im not alright myself."

"i never said i didn’t love you. of course i do. but right now i just need to love myself.”

me: “why isnt this a break then, why is it a break up if all you need is time?”

her: “i said separate ways not break up. i just need to be by myself.”

Haven’t talked since. Idk if this is a break or break up? What do I do? Im worried about her

  • BA while in the military?

I've been thinking of joining the Coast Guard right after high school graduation but am not sure if it the best idea. Ultimately, I want to become an officer so of course I need a college degree. I'd like to obtain a BA in a six year span while in the Coast Guard, my recruiter says this is possible, but is it? I'm trying to become an intell specialist so the job (according to my recruiter) is typically a 9-5 job. Taking 2-3 classes, in his opinion, is possible. So, is my recruiter right or should I get my BA first and then go straight in as an officer? Thanks!

  • Would the military provide a stable financial life?

I ve wanted to join the Coast Guard my entire life and am now becoming a bit concerned about the pay. I plan on going enlisted while working on a BA. Receiving my degree is six years, I then hope to either become an intell officer or go to law school and then come back as a lawyer for the Coast Guard. I m not sure exactly how long I d like to stay in service since I have yet to be part of it, but I am just curious about the pay. Is it enough? Will I be able to provide for my future family? Thanks!

  • Coast Guard Academy chances?

While making my schedule for next year, my senior year of high school, I mentioned to my counselor that CGA was my top choice. She then went on to say that it would nearly be impossible for me to get into the school which really lowered my self confidence in attending the school. I have a 90 GPA, will have taken five AP's and three honors classes by the time I graduate, I scored an 1820 on the old SAT, I played JV basketball for two years and now hold a state record for weightlifting, have hours of community service at a variety of different locations, and I've also attended Georgetown and the United Nations for law/poly-science related programs. I consider myself to be a fairly strong candidate for the Academy as a female aspiring to be a government major at the college. Is my counselor right, is what I've done not enough? How can I make myself a stronger applicant? Thank you so much in advance for all of your advice!!

  • Which cardio is better?

Normally I ride on a machine bike on level 10/10 for 30 minutes but today I changed it up and did a cycle of an agility ladder run and then did a 60 foot sprint, then back to the ladder, then the 60 foot sprint, and continued this pattern nonstop for 10 minutes. Which cardio is better?

  • Weightlifting question?

I just got into weightlifting seriously recently, but I have been lifting for two years now. I'm a 16 year old girl and I can deadlift 155 pounds, clean and jerk about 75 pounds (depends on the day), backsquat 160 pounds, and bench 105 pounds. I weigh 117 and I hope to compete in my first competitionfor 16-17 year old girls by spring. Should I sign up or are my stats embarrassing? Should I join a gym, are there any good ones in NJ? What should my goal lifting weight be? Thanks!

  • Was my work out good enough?

I really want to build up my strength and possibly begin competitions for powerlifting. This way my workout for today:

Cardio:10 minutes of biking on level 10/10 (3 miles)

Abs: 20 crunches with a 10 pound weight

    20 crunches with a 15 pound weight

    20 crunches with a 25 pound weight

    50 crunches with no weight

15x4 oblique twists with 10 pound (per side)

    Planks 1 minutex2

    Flutter kicks: 25x1 (both sides)

    50x1

    75x1

    100x1

    Strength:

Bicep curl with barbell: 35 pounds 8x4

Pull and clean into a front squat: 65 pounds 8x4

    Deadlift: 115 pounds 1x3

    125 pounds 1x2

    135 1x1

Was all of this okay or should I amp it up? I do change my work out every other time but it is always a similar intensity. What do you guys think? Thanks!

    By the way I'm a 16 y/o female, 115 pounds, 5'1.

  • Which gym should I join?

I'm a 16 year old girl, but I am not new to lifting. I'd like to join a gym so I can continue to make progress with lifting, gain even more muscle, and possibly even get into lifting competitions eventually. I have been lifting for about three years now and am able to back squat 155, dead lift 100, and I can do an overhead press of 100. I'd like to go to a gym that will allow me to develop my skills in a place that is not intimidating and full of complete meat heads, and will help me get into competitions. I live in central NJ. Would a chain gym like Planet Fitness be good for my goals? Or a smaller gym that is not a corporation? Thanks for the advice!

  • How can I get into weight lifting?

I'm a junior in high school and have recently gotten into weight lifting. I was working with a professional trainer over the fall and ended up being able to back squat 155 pounds, dead lift 110, and I could press 110 pounds above my head. I lifted more than anyone else, the second highest amount of weight was 30 pounds less than what I had. So I was just wondering if there are any programs in New Jersey where I can train and compete in competitions or something like that. Thanks for all the responses!

By the way, I'm 5' and weigh 112 pounds!

  • Could asthma disqualify me from joining the Coast Guard?

I'm currently a junior and have been considering applying to the Coast Guard Academy. However, I have just been informed that my condition, asthma, will most likely (if not definitely) disqualify me. I do not see why my asthma is such a big deal:

I have competitively been playing basketball since third grade and have also been part of track and field for the last two years. As long as I take my inhaler, I do not have any problems and I have never had an actual asthma attack. Additionally, I have also participated in professional strength training with my basketball team since my freshman year and have been able to lift more weight than any of my team members, and again, do not have ANY issues. I have also seen the physical requirements for the Coast Guard and am completely confident in my ability to pass the examination without having any breathing problems. Even after all of this, could I STILL be disqualified from The Coast Guard? Thank you so much for your time and information, sorry if this seems a bit arrogant, I am just very surprised that I can be disqualified although I am physically capable of the physical fitness test that the Coast Guard has.
