  • Girls, is there anything I can do to save my relationship?

My girlfriend and I have been dating for almost two years. She is everything to me. A couple days ago, we got in a fight in the car as we were on our way to go skiing. There was this boy who clearly liked her (he told her he did) about a year ago, and she was going to hang out with some friends the next weekend and he would be there. I was upset for a second, then tried to let it go but she was accusing me of being mad at her. We didn't drop it, and things escalated. I got really frustrated, started speeding, punched a crack in my windshield, and called her names I should never have called her (I have NEVER called her anything bad before. It was a total mistake and all my fault. She said she was terrified, and got in the back seat as I drove her home.

Anyway, she is breaking up with me. We have had so many good times and it kills me so much that I did this to her. I am going to talk to a therapist about controlling my emotions and avoiding the rage. I haven't gotten like that with her in about nine months, and it was the third time it has happened. I have apologized a million times, I couldn't feel worse, I am going to therapy to fix it, but I am scared she will still leave me.

Is there anything I can do to help her forgive me? I have never lied to her or cheated. Most of the time, I know I am a great boyfriend. Besides going to therapy, what else can I do to show her that I can control myself?

  • Why do we go further into debt to supply foreign aid all across the world?

I understand if times were good and all, I would be all for saving the world. But once you start to lose trillions of dollars a yea, it is time to cut back.

If an individual had an underwater mortgage, student loans, and credit card debt, they would be INSANE to spend what little money they have on other people. Shouldn't the same be applied to government? When we are in debt, no dollar that if forcibly taken from an American taxpayer should be used to benefit any non-American. Call me selfish, or whatever you want, but it makes sense.

We should pull foreign aid from all countries, including:

    Egypt

    Pakistan

    Israel

    Palestine

    Jordan

    Columbia

    Russia

    among others

  • Why are social conservatives against gay marriage, when they are also fearful of Sharia Law?

How is forcing your religion's views on marriage onto everybody any different than the Middle Eastern countries that practice Sharia Law? Same with wanting to ban abortion, or wanting to have intelligent design and the bible taught in school?

It would be one thing is the social conservatives didn't insult Islam constantly, and if they didn't go around "warning" us all how the Muslims are trying to enforce Sharia Law everywhere. But the hypocrisy of blasting one religion's form of the EXACT same thing that you support here in America is unconscionable!

I understand that Sharia Law is much more oppressive than outlawing certain types of marriage (or wanting to ban abortion, or to teach intelligent design in schools, etc.), but it is still the exact same concept.

Newt Gingrich said "Sharia law is a mortal threat to the survival of freedom in the United States and the world as we know it." Why shouldn't this be applied to all religions?

  • Do people understand the difference between income taxes and corporate taxes?

If they raise income taxes, it will not effect corporate taxes. So businesses are free to grow in the exact same way that they were before, it is just when money is removed from the company to pay individuals (thus, it is no longer an investment), that cash is taxed at a higher rate.

Everyone who is saying a higher income rate will hurt businesses is misinformed. It will not effect the ability of a company to grow and prosper, its just you will take home slightly less. In fact, it should encourage more business owners to keep the money in the business instead of their personal accounts (since it will be taxed at the corporate rate, not the raised individual rate).

    Make sense?

  • How will gay marriage make your life any worse?

Why can't we just let everybody have the same rights?

I would rather see a gay couple happily married raising an adopted child than a broken family with an abusive father raising one. Do you really think that the straight, bad parents are more deserving of marriage and children than the gay family that loves each other and their child?

And please don't bring religion into this. Everyone is free to practice whatever religion they please, and no one is at liberty to force their religion onto anybody else. This is a free country, ya know? And as George Washington said, “Every man, conducting himself as a good citizen, and being accountable to God alone for his religious opinions, ought to be protected in worshipping the Deity according to the dictates of his own conscience.”

  • Why do people want the budget cut, but are not willing to make sacrifices?

People have been all up in arms (as they should be) about the budget and how badly it needs to be cut blah blah, but when specifics are named people say "oh man not that we can cut the rest." If somebody suggests to cut something that benefits them, then people get mad about it. If you want to budget cut, you have to make sacrifices! Everything has to be paid for, and your social security is no exception to that rule. You are not above the rules, and the government money you recieved is not more important than the money anyone else recieves.

  • Aeronautical or Astronautical Engineering?

I am currently an aerospace engineering major, but I need to decide between an aeronautical or astronautical track. I think that both are very cool and I would very much enjoy each one, so it comes down to job stuff. If anyone has any experience or insight about picking between the two tracks, it would be very helpful. Thank you

  • Rich or Poor: Flat Tax Rate?

Lets just tax everyone at one rate (say 25%), regardless of income. This includes business profits and everything. One rate, no loopholes, no argument. Everyone can stop complaining about 'fair' and 'loopholes' because the tax code can fit on an index card and everyone can understand.

  • Angular rate vs angular velocity?

I am doing some dynamics (physics) homework involving relative motion in a revolving frame. In one of the problems, an "angular rate" is specified. This seems odd to me and I was wondering if (or how) this is different than angular velocity? The problem is basically an astronaut is walking radially outward on a space station with some inertial velocity as well as rotation with a constant angular rate.

The whole thing is more strange because my teacher has not ever mentioned such a unit, and he wrote the book!

    Please help!

I know this is really simple but I am just not sure if i should use enthalpy or internal energy or what. I don't need the numbers just what idea to use.

  • Why is the idea of secession frowned upon?

The Constitution of the United States is basically a contract which bonds the states together. If a state feels like the central government broke the terms of the contract (such as the tenth amendment), why shouldn't the contract be void and allow the states to secede?

    ...thoughts?
