Biggest Research Challenge for Natural Gas?
I am proposing a mock research proposal on alternative fuels. The goal being to get the alternative into the larger market. I am thinking along the lines of natural gas vehicles.
What is the biggest challenge that is faced by natural gas that could be solved through further research?
I know infrastructure is one of the biggest challenges faced by industry. Perhaps research is needed into dual fuel natural gas (vehicles with natural gas & gasoline). That's my idea for now at least.
Any ideas would be appreciated. Thanks!
1 AnswerEngineering8 years agoComposting: Containing smell and keeping animals out?
I live in a sorority house and would like to start a sorority wide composting program. Recently our school cafeteria added a food waste container in addition to the recycling and trash. I thought this was an excellent idea as I know each of the houses probably throws away quite a bit of food waste. I wanted to work with the cafeteria so that we would collect the food waste and they would take it off our hands and combine it with theirs.
The problem is, I'm not sure how to go about the logistics of collecting and storing the waste. If we kept it outside it might attract animals which would be an issue. If we kept it inside it might get gross. They have some small odor reducing containers for home use on the market, but they all seem pretty small and we have about 20 girls in each house so we would need something a bit bigger.
I'd really appreciate any ideas or resources to solve this problem so that we can get the program going as soon as possible. Thanks!

I have been assigned to write a paper addressing a current matter of debate in environmental, engineering, or technology ethics. I'm currently looking around for a topic.
What would be a good, debatable issue in these areas?

1 AnswerEngineering1 decade agoPronunciation of "r" in Austrian German?
I am going to be studying in central Austria this summer. As such I have decided to teach myself German. Progress is going well, however, I'm not sure how I should be pronouncing my "r"s. I understand that the pronunciation is very much based on region.
In central Austria do most use the alveolar (tip of tongue) or uvular (throat) "r"?
1 AnswerLanguages1 decade agoDo I need a headphone amp for ATH M50?
I recently purchased the ATH M50 headphone from Audio Technica. I'll mostly be listening with the phones plugged into my laptop. Occasionally I might listen directly from my mp3 player. I'm just wondering if I need an amp or if my laptop will supply enough power to get good sound?
Music & Music Players1 decade agoTorque on Wrench - Vectors Problem?
A wrench 35 cm long lies along the positive y-axis and grips a bolt at the origin. A force is applied in the direction <0,4,-3> at the end of the wrench. Find the magnitude of the force needed to supply 50 J of torque to the bolt.
I believe I need to use the cross product of the length and the direction somehow...
I'm just really not sure how to set this problem up.
1 AnswerMathematics1 decade agoFinding orthogonal vectors given one vector?
Find two vectors (which are not multiples of each other) that are both orthogonal to <2,0,-3>.
I need to use the dot product somehow. I realize the dot product of two perpendicular vectors is 0. I'm just not exactly sure how to go about solving.
I set up <x,y,z>.<2,0,-3>=0
Got 2x-3z=0 or 2x=3z
I can see that either x=0 and z=0 OR x=3 and z=2
BUT that doesn't seem like a good method of solving and
I still don't know what the y components should be...
The Answer is <0,1,0> and <3,2,2> I just don't know how to get there
2 AnswersMathematics1 decade agoBest language to learn or place to go?
My options are: Azerbaijani, Bangla/Bengali, Hindi, Indonesian, Korean, Punjabi, Turkish, or Urdu. I don't have any experience with any of this languages so I would be a beginner in all. I'm leaning towards Korean or Hindi right now, but I really am open to anything. Also I would be learning these languages in their respective countries so location could be a deciding factor. I don't really know a lot about any of these cultures so it's difficult for me to chose one without it being almost totally arbitrary.
What do you think is the best option and why?
5 AnswersLanguages1 decade agoIs my computer screen ruined?
I have an HP mini laptop or netbook whatever it's called. One day it happened to fall about 3 or 4 feet onto a hard wood floor. Thankfully there didn't seem to be much damage except a small crack in the top left plastic part of the frame surrounding the frame. It blended in and was hardly noticeable. Unfortunately, one day my laptop ended up being stepped on. I barely put any pressure on it though, as I took my foot off before putting on hardly any of my weight on it. I wasn't concerned about this incident as I had hardly stepped on it. Later when I started up my computer, though, there was a problem in the top left part of the screen. There is a rectangle about 1" x 2" that doesn't work. In the middle there is a large black blob. The remaining area is partly grey and partly white.
Is my computer permanently damaged or can it be fixed?
I need this computer for college, but I'm scared to take it in. Will it be expensive to remedy this problem?
If you know what's wrong with my computer any advice is really appreciated.
2 AnswersMonitors1 decade agoWhat is the best healthy diet?
I am looking to get in shape this summer. Obviously in addition to exercise the diet is really important. Thus I am looking for some sort of diet plan to follow. I want it to be well rounded and healthy. It should be something I could follow for a very long time (no crazy fad stuff). I want to lose fat and gain some muscle. Also there should be set meals with recipes. For example it would tell me what to eat for breakfast, lunch, and dinner with recipes for all of these. The foods need to be of the everyday grocery store variety as there are not a lot of stores where I live.
Anybody know of a diet such as this? Again my main concern is health and fitness.
5 AnswersDiet & Fitness1 decade agoWhat should I major in: Engineering or Business?
I am a 4.0 student. I am very good at speaking and language use (I got a 36 in both English and Reading on the ACT and I am competing at a national level in Speech). My math and science skills aren't as good as my language skills, though they are also above average (I am in Calculus BC and have maintained an A throughout the year). My college choices are the CO School of Mines where I would major in Environmental Engineering or Univ of Nebraska at Lincoln where I would major in Business Administration.
I really like the small size, campus, and location of Mines. I dislike the lack of a speech or mock trial program and the fact that the marching band is tiny. I love to ski though and I could do that often at Mines. After I graduate from Mines I would basically be guaranteed a job that starts out at about $65,000 a year.
UNL is good because it offers more flexibility for majors. I won't have to decide until early my JR year. I don't like that it's mostly a sports school and anybody can get in. If I went to UNL though I would be in the Honors Program which is a bit more selective. I'm not sure I want to live in Lincoln however and I'm not a fan of UNL's sprawling campus in the middle of the city. I don't know if I could make as much money with a Bus Adm major as with Engineering. (But if I end up hating engineering the money wouldn't matter to me).
If I go to Mines I will be stuck with Engineering, but I'm afraid that if I decide I don't like that, I will hate that I have to pay money to do something I don't enjoy. I have very good scholarships to both schools so they will cost the same. However, this means that once I choose a school I can not transfer to the other because my scholarship will be gone and without a scholarship I can't afford to go to college. If I was sure I wanted to do Engineering I would definitely go to Mines, but the thing is I'm not sure what I want to do. I have a week to decide and I have no idea what to do.
4 AnswersHigher Education (University +)1 decade agoWould Dropping a Class Affect Admissions?
I am a high school senior and in my second semester of the school year. I have applied to Dartmouth University. I am considering dropping my AP Biology class. The class is supposed to be year long and I received an A the first semester. However, the teacher is terrible and we have yet to learn anything substantial about biology. The class is basically a waste of my time, which I could otherwise spend studying or working on scholarships for example.
Would dropping the class negatively affect my admissions? Does the college look at your second semester for admissions?

4 AnswersFinancial Aid1 decade agoCable Tension Problem (Vectors)?
Okay here's the problem:
A 5000 lb weight is supported by two cables at angles. The component lengths of each cable are given. The cable on the right x=20" & y=24". The cable on the left x=10" & y=24". I need to find the tension in each cable.
The answers are:
The cable on the right T=2169.5 pounds. The cable on the left T=3611.1 pounds.
I just need to know the steps in order to solve this type of problem. I did a million of these in physics last year, but I can't remember how to solve it...
1 AnswerMathematics1 decade agoCollege Prep -- AP Calc v Language?
I am now registering for my senior classes in high school. I only have a certain amount of room in my schedule obviously. Currently I have taken one year of spanish and plan on taking my second year over the summer. I am thinking I will major in Political Science.
Should I finish spanish and take span 5-6 & 7-8 next year and also take an advance forensics class (speech) OR take AP Calculus?
Keep in mind that I will already be taking AP Gov & AP Lit and Comp, plus Math isn't exactly one of my strong points. What would look better on a college app?

I would like to get into the air force academy. Academically I shouldn't have any problem. However, I do have asthma. Is this an automatic disqualifier? If the asthma is under control (Not using inhaler) and I don't really have any symptoms will that make a difference? I am in soccer and am physically fit. Thanks

I am applying for NHS and for the cover sheet I want to put a quote. It can be motivational or inspirational or about leadership or something. I just can't think of any and I searched a bit and didn't find anything that caught my eye.
So I need a good quote basically.
