I go against the groove.

  • Is the question, "who created God" completely irrelevant?

Considering we don't know who or what God is, isn't it foolish to then start to ponder who created God. If we cannot comprehend who God is, it is in my opinion almost foolish to try and unveil his creator.

Surely if God exists, then he would have placed the story of his creation, and the story of the true purpose of the universe out of human hands. There fore whether you like it or not we are all born and die in the limbo of this argument. Any assertions about the origin of the earth or it's purpose is, has always been and always will be subjective to humankind until God shows himself or humankind manages to create another planet.

  • Relative to the size of the universe, is anything that happens on earth significant?

This whole planet is a spec of dust where the universe is concerned, so do you think we sometimes draw too much attention to things that happen and things that are said?

  • I've lost my Philosophical Libido, is there any way I can revive it?

Now I am aware that the way a lot of people revive their interest in certain subjects, is by reading books or doing some surfing on the world wide web. Though I have gone down those avenues and I have yielded no fruit. Some might say that if the interest has wained then it cannot be salvaged but I have more faith than that. Are there any unconventional methods you can think of? Your input would be greatly appreciated!

  • My best friend has shattered my world.?

I've known my best friend for 5 years, and today she ripped my heart from my ribcage when she said we shouldn't be friends anymore.

She is extremely complicated, and has a sophisticated way of dealing with emotion. She is strangely optimistic when it comes to herself and pessimistic about the entire world, and particularly the people who inhabit it. These are the qualities that I like and the same ones that may have led to this terrible predicament.

Recently she came over to my house and she stayed for 3 days, we were laughing, talking, everything seemed great. She left on Saturday and we said our goodbyes. Later I texted her and asked how the day was going, she replied with a resignation from our friendship.

I love her so much and lately I've been contacting her more, as before she would contact me more so I wanted to repay her. I've been affectionate, and understanding, yet she started to feel I was smothering her. So I backed off for a week, then spoke to her again. You see she has a very delicate tolerance level, and thus I have become slightly submissive. For the majority of our friendship we were far apart so we used to call, text and email. Now that we have met things have gone downhill. At this point I feel efforts to get her back would be futile as I know it'll take me bringing her the moon to win one more second of her time. How do I get over her, or how do I win her back given her intellectual standing as well as her unique psychological perspective

  • Why do people like to use tomato sauce (ketchup) worldwide, what is the key ingredient?

I know that it is adored worldwide, and i wondered whether it might be the sugar in it, or do you think it is something else that makes it so universally accepted by many food cultures?

  • The tales of my dying curiosity, can you help?

I used to have such zest for all things philosophical and now every answer to every question my mind asks itself is always subjective, thus no conclusions are ever made, hence the death of my curiosity. How am I to breathe life back into my suspicions and general concern for any sort of solidity? What remedy can you offer that will put an end to miserable afternoons spent telling people with insightful questions, everything is just a dream?

  • Tell me, is truth subject to prospective?

I was thinking, in science lessons and other lessons I have attended I have been told 'facts' which I am to take on as truth. But I was thinking today, really I haven't proven what I know to be 'facts' to be true. Therefore do you like me believe that before something is true in an individualistic sense, you must have thorough backing; to prove it to yourself.

So in conclusion, is something true, only if there is a certain degree of proof (tangible/solid)

i.e: "There is a tree in the middle of that forest," said John to Jane.

  • How can I express my love towards a friend?

Me and my friend have not known each other for too long, and she has helped me through more issues then even she knows. We found that we had a lot in common at in our first meeting, and she I hope feels a certain degree of connection to me.

It is a long distance friendship, and we e mail each other a lot. When I am concluding, I feel like adding the words "I love you" but not in the longing way, but just on a friendship level. How do I go about this without giving the wrong impression? Because it is of vital importance that I don't lose her as a friend.

I have had bad experiences with long distance relationships, and she is too special to risk anything as dangerous as a long distance relationship.

I love this woman, how do I express myself adequately?

  • Is it possible to be underage when buying Pajamas?

I just thought it was a little bit unethical purchasing Pajamas in the presence of senior citizens, is it a fashion right only afforded to the older members of society, or is it fully within my prerogative to purchase them without guilt?

  • The question of credibility?

    I had an argument with my friend about the philosophy of credibility and my view was as follows;

I said credibility does not have to be proven by credentials or approved by anyone else for the simple reason that, they remain useful whether someone can see it and acknowledge it or not. I said that I didn't think just because it hasn't been seen my existence, or and my contribution to all that exists is not less credible than the credentials of a lawyer who is in full view of the world and is acknowledged by cambridge university.

My friend went on to discredit my opinions by saying you are only credible if your credibility is acknowledged by others, and to think otherwise would be ludicrous, and detached from reality. So I told him if my theory is possible surely it is not detached from reality because your own theory can be described as merely a possibility as well, I wanted to move that our opinions were equally credible. this is when we launched into a less intellectual debate not worth repeating here.

Who do you think was right though?

  • When a human being gives something a name, does its importance change?

    For example:

When one discovers an apple, and simultaneously they name it frep, has it now become of greater importance, because it seems to me the fact that we have theories and formulas makes us incredibly stupid considering we are mortal, and once one thing is named it begins it's descent in importance, what are your veiws on this subject

  • Why is it that I write with elegance, but speak like a brute?

I happen to write a demigod but my speech is refined in vocabulary, it comes out in nervous bursts, why do you think this is? Is it because of my social habits, or is this common among good writers. I am not asking what can be done to improve my situation remember I am asking what you think the cause might be.

  • Morally is it wrong to create a memory that is the polar opposite of the truth?

Can a memory created that is essentially a lie be interpreted as a point of view? Lets say you witness someone being shot, and immediately you decide he just decided to go for a nap, isn't it rational to accept this as a point of view, and not denial or falsity?

    9 AnswersPhilosophy1 decade ago
  • Do you make your memories or do your memories make you?

Do you think that your memories shape you, or is you that controls your memories? Some might argue that their memories shape them regardless, but when you shape your own memories you are in effect shaping yourself in a light you wish to see your self in.

In summary I am asking you what you think about the idea we have control over our own memories, and the idea that our memories in fact mould us like clay.
