I'm trying to find a sci fi story I read a few years ago in some big sci fi anthology book. It was about a guy who invents a device that transposes a sphere of wood from a tree in some other world with a sphere of matter from his laboratory. He eventually sends himself to the other world, has to figure out how to get back, etc. Please help, it's driving me crazy!
