  • What should I do as I had been unemployed after the company was not able to hire me (Malaysia)?

Well, here's my scenario. Actually I was about to join a company and next thing I knew the company was unable to hire me. Well, IT department said "Yes" while HR department and management said "No" or "Not now". Make no mistake. It is neither my fault nor IT department's as all departments were affected by the management's decision. In other words, they can't hire anyone for now so I'll be unemployed for so long (I've not been working for 4 months)

Well, there are options I should consider after that. Actually there's a training program known as "Train & Place" program but I have to stay put until the date is announced so I'm still hoping that the program begins soon as it means a lot.

If the program has been cancelled instead. I can either look for an IT job or work as a full-time waiter (I just need to know how the shifts are like before I get started) or a clerk (I may work on Saturday as well)!

I may consider borrowing a loan to attend a university only if they can guarantee that I'll be hired whenever I have a degree. That still depends on the rules, though.

Since I already identified the options here, what do you think? Feel free to include other suggestions if you can!

  • How long can I use my PC so the motherboard will not fail me again?

I couldn't turn on my PC last Saturday and yesterday as far as I can remember. I think it must have something to do with the motherboard. Actually I used it for at least 16 hours last Friday and next thing I knew my PC did not boot on the next day so what should I do to make sure I can use it regularly without any problem?

  • Should I sell my PC provided that I'm unable to fix the multimedia audio controller & video controller myself?

Well, a friend advised me to sell my PC and buy a new one since it may sound a little impossible to fix Intel(R) 82865G Graphics Controller and Realtek AC'97 Audio which don't function as usual. Click http://malaysia.answers.yahoo.com/question/index;_... to find out what the heck is wrong with them and try to help you out if you say "No" to my question. Nevertheless it's become the last resort to begin with. I'll still do whatever I can to fix the PC until I determine enough is enough.

  • Is it alright if I have an e-mail address which doesn't contain my real name when applying for a job?

Sure thing, the resume contains my real name while my e-mail address alone does not have it before alias ("...@...") symbol and domain such as "..yahoo.com" so it shouldn't be a problem. However that was not a case until now when I received an e-mail from a company where I had an interview. It is said that the e-mail addresses which don't contain people's real names aren't professional. Therefore what do you think?

  • Is the schedule flexible when I learn how to drive (Malaysia)?

I just need to make sure that a driving school's schedule and the future interviews don't clash with each other. That's all.

  • Can I install both Visual Studio 2008 Express and SQL Server 2008 Express on this PC?

    Well, I don't know whether or not I should install the programming languages I need the most on the PC. Even if I do, I'd never be able to turn on my PC again. Anyway here's my PC specification;

    - Windows XP Service Pack 3

    - 512 MB of RAM

    - Intel Pentium 4 CPU 2.80GHz

    Well, a computer techician implied that one or some of the applications removed, corrupted, nuked or napalmed my system files and the applications I'd mentioned above might be on the list so here are the requirements;

    http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?di...

    http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?di...

So should I risk nuking my PC once again just to improve my programming skills? Please let me know what you think?

  • Is the word "restructured" negative?

Well, I'd like to say I left the company because the company has to be restructured so I had no choice but to leave. However my ex-manager told me that word would imply that I blamed them even though I know a company has the right to restructure itself whenever necessary. He recommended me to say I ain't suitable for a job in question just because I test programs most of the time while my ex-supervisor suggested that I should say that was the company's decision as I just joined it about a month ago and I wasn't successful on a probation so the company would ask me to leave.I happen to consider all reasons before I come up with one of them for a reason.

Actually the real reasons why I reluctantly resigned are that I didn't analyze my tasks before focusing on them and I gave my manager the excuses after making mistakes without realizing them.

So what am I supposed to say if a company where I visit for an interview asks me a reason why I did leave the company where I previously worked?

  • Does someone have to reveal his or her weakness during an interview?

Revealing the past mistakes to the future employers will cost someone a chance to be hired. The same goes for him or her if he or she chooses not to talk about the weaknesses or past mistakes. Therefore I'm in dilemma right now since I'm still unemployed until now so what do you think? What if a future employer asks me to reveal the mistakes I'd made in the company where I first worked?

  • Does an employee in certain Malaysian IT companies have to work on even Sunday?

Well, the common sense will tell me that a person may work in an IT company from Monday to either Friday or Saturday. However they've gotta be kidding if I have to work on Sunday. As far as I can remember, I usually worked from Monday to Friday and sometimes some people especially my ex-IT colleagues have to do whatever they need to do on Saturday if necessary. Anyway I still believe the companies which are "open" from Monday to Friday or Saturday still exist. What about you?

  • Do you know where to find a list of legitimate IT training centers in Malaysia?

I may plan to search for a website to find out whether or not an IT training center is legitimate but it's easier said than done when there are a lot of reliable sources on the Internet so please tell me about it.

  • Do IT Training Centers sponsored by Malaysian government really request for photocopied Identity Cards?

Well, I went to a so-called IT Training Center called Apylon Sdn. Bhd. and the truth was that I was a little reluctant to photocopy my ICs as I feared that con men would take advantage of me. To make matters worse, I told whoever was responsible for that place that I knew where to find them if I knew something suspicious. After that, they forced me to leave the place and they tore a piece of paper which contained my answers. Finally they accepted my registration form, photocopied transcripts, photocopied certificates and most importantly photocopied IC after I persuaded them three times. Therefore should I give them a benefit of doubt or did I have right to be concerned?

In addition to that, do you know where I can find the legitimate IT training centers in Malaysia?

  • How much do I need to spend in order to obtain Malaysian driving license?

Well, I've gotta know because I want to make sure that isn't the waste of money and time. To make matters worse, I'm now unemployed. Initially I ain't planning to drive since I care about the environment but this way, I can't easily go to Puchong, Shah Alam, Klang and certain parts of Klang Valley without any appropriate transportation. Anyway I need to make a decision this month if you will.

  • Which is the best Internet Service Provider in Malaysia?

Well, people of TM Net are about to let me down when they happened to be reluctant to send a technician to help me diagnose the real problem with Streamyx connection at my home as the link light in the modem is off after all. Judging the scenario here, I think I may give either P1 WiMAX or JARING a try since no cables and wires are required for some services if you ask me so what do you think?

P.S: By the way, it's much cheaper to go online at home than to visit a cyber cafe.

  • People who are familiar with Jalan Yap Kwan Seng, is there any cheap food in the area I've mentioned?

Well, I'd like to spend less than RM 5 a day to have my lunch in that area. I also wanna know if I have to spend less than RM 10 a day for it. I appreciate that if you're able to recommend a place that sells food at the affordable and reasonable prices.

  • Since I don't have a car in Klang Valley, can I choose not to work overtime?

The truth is that I don't have a license and I'm not planning to buy a car since the prices of oil or gas are dramatically higher. I'm from Kepong and I'm an IT graduate. Currently I use public transportation so what do you think, people? The views of people on the management level are appreciated very much.

    P.S: I just possess a diploma only.

  • Malaysians, how do you think about the newspaper called "The Sun"?

Well, it's definitely free of charge and many of you're glad that it's owned by neither the government or opposition. However, I doubt that English used on The Sun is on par with The Star or NST so what do you think, people?
