What happens if I get kicked out of my apartment for violating the lease terms?
What happens if I get kicked out of my apartment for violating the rules? Does that let me out of the lease? I screwed up but I'm trying to take some advice and stand up to my parents. They constantly cross the line and they won't stop until I put a stop to it which is going to be today! It's either let them run my life until I'm 50 years old or tell them I don't appreciate anything they've done for me and they need to get out, stay out and never come back.
They know I'm trying to start my own little business and they know I have a dog, but they didn't like the place I chose for myself so they found an apartment for me, put the lease in front of me and yelled at me until I signed it to make them stop. They gave me the keys, kept a set for themselves so they can come in whenever they want. paid the deposit and first months rent and to top it off they told me I'm not allowed to give anyone else a key. I'm expected to pay them back when I can but we never discussed it before they went and did it. I haven't moved in yet.
This place does not allow pets and I can't do business from the apartment. They told me I need to get rid of my dog and get my business idea out of my head. They are mad because I did not ask their permission to get a dog, so I'm 24 years old, have my own place but yet they win again. My mom went and got drapes for the windows without even asking what I thought.
I'm just so steamed right now I can't even think.
24 AnswersRenting & Real Estate5 years agoHow do I break an apartment lease my parents forced me to sign?
I desperately want to get out of a lease agreement my parents forced me to sign. They picked my apartment put the papers in front of me and yelled at me until I signed the papers to make them stop. I told them I hated my place, but they said I signed a 1 year lease and I should have said if I didn't like the place. I did but they wouldn't listen.
I tried talking to the landlord but they said I signed the agreement and now I'm stuck in it for 1 year like it or not. I told them I would get a lawyer to get me out of this because they should not have listened to my parents but they said to go ahead because I would loose.
I'm 24 years old, my parents have always done everything for me and made all my decisions, I'm always being told exactly what to do and when to do it. People around here think I'm not capable of doing things on my own. I just need to get further away and I can't wait another year. Since my parents forced me to sign it can I say it wasn't legal??
21 AnswersRenting & Real Estate5 years agoHow do I get my parents to just back off and let me have my life?
I was told I've allowed them to cross the line too many times and this time they really crossed the line. I worked out a deal to rent a house, it needs lots of work and I knew that going in but the owners didn't have time to fix it so we worked out a deal that I could stay there dirt cheap if I make the repairs with the owners paying for any major material costs. (They will buy shingles, paint, etc.)
I made the mistake of letting a cousin see the place and he ratted on me to my parents. While I'm at work they show up, somehow got me out of the deal and rented an apartment for me. I get back from work, my parents are there and next thing I get papers shoved in front of me and they are yelling at me to sign the papers then they lecture to me on how I should always let them help me because it just makes more work for them when they have to drop what they are doing to come fix my mistakes.
My parents picked this place with no input from me, they don't care if I like it or not, they like it so thats all that matters to them. I just want to quit my job and move far from here. I figure if my parents can get me out of a deal I made then I should be able to get out of a lease they forced me to sign. It's always been like this, it's not going to change and they need to let me make my own decisions. They deal on a car for me, they pick my insurance, they say which bank to use, which credit card to get, which cell phone to get,
5 AnswersFamily5 years agoDoes Verizon have a way of finding out what phone I put my LTE SIM card in?
I ordered a Moto g4 from Amazon. It's the special they have, an exclusive for prime members. The phone was $149 and they took another $25 off at checkout. It does come with Amazon offers and ads but it's not really a big deal. I was thinking maybe put this phone on Net 10 because it's a cheap yet fairly decent phone. The nice thing about the phone is it comes factory unlocked and is fully compatible with both the major GSM and CDMA networks.
Curiosity got me, so as an experiment I put my Verizon LTE SIM in the phone and it worked perfectly. I used the phone several days with no problems. Data and everything worked without having to adjust any settings. Where I got into trouble is when I stopped into a Verizon store, I wanted to see if they had a case for it. The guy at the store totally freaked out when he saw what phone I was using, he said the Moto g4 wasn't on their list of accepted devices so he took the SIM out of my phone. He gave me back both the SIM and phone but he told me to put the SIM back in my Verizon branded phone.
I like the Moto g4 better than the Verizon phone I have, the screen is much bigger and easier for me to see. My question is, does Verizon know what phone my LTE SIM card is in? Is there any chance they will shut down my account? With the old CDMA phones they used to be able to do a sweep for unauthorized ESN's that slipped through the cracks but I'm curious if they can tell if I put my LTE SIM in an unauthorized phone.
2 AnswersCell Phones & Plans5 years agoIf somebody leaves and item in a public place and somebody else picks it up, is that theft?
What happened is somebody left a briefcase in an area which is open to the public. When the person returned hours later to retrieve it, the briefcase was gone. He claimed the breifcase contained a brand new laptop computer that he just paid $1,500 for, a cell phone, and some very sensitive information.
He questioned me because I was working in the area as I'm an employee of the company but I did not see a briefcase. The procedure is, if an item such as this is found by an employee, we call security and security will first try to contact the owner if possible, then the item is placed into lost and found. We checked and no briefcase was in lost and found. He then demanded to view the security cameras but we didn't have anyone there who had access. He then called the police to report the theft. The officer questioned me about the briefcase, I told the officer I didn't see a briefcase and I didn't know how to view footage on the surveillance cameras from earlier in the day.
Here's the deal, the officer tells me I'm a suspect and in order to rule me out he needs to search all my stuff. I thought is was going overboard for the officer to even question me about it, but he even wanted to search my vehicle and he said he could put me in jail for 72 hours while he investigated if I didn't let him search. All we had to go on is a person claimed he left a briefcase but no proof.
The company has a sign posted in the area, "Not responsible for lost or stolen items".
4 AnswersLaw & Ethics5 years agoIs a school custodian a contract or non-contract position?
If I accept a direct hire as a full-time custodian, grades K - 12 in a public school, am I contracted for the full school year or can I quit anytime? Students get out in May for summer break and don't return until the end of August. The school had 7 custodians all resign at the same time and all the resignations were effective the last day of school in May.
If I accept a direct hire as a custodian now, do I have to stay with the job until May 15, 2017 or am I free to leave anytime?
2 AnswersOther - Careers & Employment5 years agoHow do I quit a job I just started through a temp agency?
I accepted a job through a temp agency. I've never used a temp agency before so I didn't know how all this worked. I told them I didn't want a job as a custodian but since I listed that I had 5 years experience as a custodian that's the job they sent me to. I thought this would only be a few days but they sent me to a school where they are short several custodians. I worked there 2 days and my supervisor said they were going to put me on a temp to hire program.
I don't want to work as a custodian so I called the temp agency to ask when they were going to move me to a different job but they said I signed some papers with the employer so now they are going to leave me there until I'm eligible for direct hire. I think I'm an employee of the temp agency for 90 days then after that I become an employee of the school.
I live in Nebraska, I don't think there's a contract since I'm considered to be an employee of a temp agency. There isn't much going on at the school since students are out for summer break, I have no idea what happens if I try to quit after school starts in about a month or so.
Since I haven't completed my first week yet, how long should I wait before I give notice? Should I give my notice to the temp agency or my supervisor?
2 AnswersOther - Careers & Employment5 years agoWhat happens if I get hired but then decide I don't want the job?
I had a call and was offered a job today. I accepted the job because I need a job, but the job is another job as a custodian and the pay is $9/hr. I started thinking about it and I couldn't make it on the $10.25/hr I was making on my last job. Also, I really don't want to be a custodian again, but I was told I may have to be since I was a custodian for 5 years. I went to file unemployment after I was fired, was sent to an interview by the Department of Labor and was hired the next day.
They are expecting me early Monday morning. I tried to call back, but was informed the manager that hired me was out until Monday. I have an interview set for tomorrow and would much rather have that job. My dad says I have no choice but to go to work there because by accepting the job, it prevented them from looking for somebody else and that would be looked at the same as walking off the job. The job I interview for tomorrow has a starting wage of $16/hr and much better benefits.
3 AnswersOther - Careers & Employment5 years agoIs there a way to get a loan to go to school with no job and my dad not supporting the idea?
In my situation I've work my last job for 5 years. It wasn't the job I should have had, but my dad thought I should stay with it. I know the place hired me because they needed someone bad, they were short-staffed and needed me for a couple weeks to get them caught up. After a couple weeks I was sent to a custodial position within the same company, they said it was temporary while they completed a remodel project but they just left me in custodial. After a few months my job got worse, I started getting all the crap jobs and it felt like they were trying to make me quit. My dad kept saying I needed to stay with it and it would get better.
In 5 years my wage went from $10/hr to $10.25/hr. It takes 3 years to get a review and when I did it was a really negative review and I was informed I couldn't get an increase because of the review. After 4 years suddenly a bunch of written customer complaints started popping up, I work for 4 years without a single complaint then suddenly get 20 complaints in a 6 month period? Finally I was fired for what my supervisor said was gross incompetence and he has a stack of written customer complaints to back up his claim.
My previous job before that went out of business and is now just an empty building, I'm not even sure how to contact anyone. My dad is a Barber and I was supposed to go to school to be a Barber but now my dad said that will never happen. Could I still get a student loan with no job and my dad saying no?
Law & Ethics5 years agoI was fired from my job, can my previous employer say that I was fired for incompetence?
Can a former employer say that I was fired for incompetence when a prospective employer calls to verify my employment? I was wrote up several times, suspended for a stupid reason and received a couple negative reviews, can any of that information be shared? We had so many customers that liked to complain about the smallest microscopic details and most were over exaggerated and blown completely out of proportion. Someone complained about the rest room there was s**t all over the floor. I found 1 magazine laying on the floor.
My previous employer said I must give my reason for leaving "I was fired for gross incompetence" because that's what they are going to say about me. The said this was going in my permanent record and be there to haunt me for life.
I applied for another job where they are in desperate need of people, they need to hire at least 2 more people soon. I emailed them my resume' today and received a call back within the hour to come in for an interview tomorrow. I listed my reason for leaving as the custodial department was outsourced.
My dad says I'm wasting my time and theirs going to the interview because they will contact my last employer, find out I lied and I won't get the job. I had a co-worker who said he would give me a reference but they would have to call his personal cell as the company filters calls to employees and often re-directs them.
8 AnswersLaw & Ethics5 years agoHow can I get around listing on a job application that I was fired from a job as a janitor for gross incompetence?
I took a course in computer programming, I found a job but after a couple weeks I was transfered to a custodial position within the same company. They said this would only be for a few weeks while they completed a remodel project. After a few months, I learned they hired someone with more experience for the job I was hired for and they were going to leave me in custodial. I received almost no training, I shadowed someone for a day, then they considered me trained and ready to be out on my own. I had no idea what I was doing and was yelled at frequently for being stupid. After 5 years, I still get stumped by how to handle some situations. I've been wrote up numerous times for things I thought were stupid.
After 5 years of putting up with this pathetic excuse for a bottom of the barrel crap job I was fired for what they said was gross incompetence. They said it's what I'm going to have to put on my resume' because that's what they are going to say if someone calls about me. Can they really say I was fired for gross incompetence? Is there a way to get around putting that on my resume'? I really don't want anyone knowing I was stupid enough to work on that job.
3 AnswersOther - Careers & Employment5 years agoHow do you deal with customers who ask stupid questions about things you couldn't possibly know?
I've had customers ask me all kinds of stupid questions and they just seem to expect me to know all the answers. I had someone ask me if the serve meals in the restaurant. It's a restaurant, they serve food, what kind of a question is that? How do I answer it? I had someone ask me if they could get a cup of tea in a to go cup. I'm outside the restaurant moping the floor, I don't even work for the restaurant, how would I know that? I had someone ask me how long it would take to get a table. There's a store next door and someone wanted to know if they could get a bag of ice in the store. It's not even owned by the same company, how would I know? Are the batteries this place sells any good? I don't work for the place that sells them, how would I know?
Today I had a customer somehow force their credit card up the dollar bill slot in a vending machine. For some reason just because I'm a janitor they expected me to have keys for the machine and retrieve their card, but I don't service the machines. It was just so funny I couldn't keep from laughing, but the customer didn't think it was funny at all, he seriously thought the slot was for credit cards and wanted his card back. He was rather pissed when he found out the guy who services the machines won't be back until Tuesday. He filed a complaint against me. How do you keep from laughing at these things?
8 AnswersEtiquette5 years agoIs it possible to get another job with negative things on my permanent record?
They promised me the sun, moon and stars then they have me working as a janitor. They said just to stay with it and things would get better, I've been there for 5 years and it hasn't. They keep me but they give me negative reviews so they never have to give me a raise and don't have to give me a reference to another job. They started me at $10/hr. said it was just a starting wage and I would get a review in 3 months which didn't happen. After 1 year I received a whopping $ .25 increase and nothing since. They told me I was up for a promotion that would give me a much higher wage but at the last minute they hired someone else. They said they felt I was content in my current job position and they were leaving me there because they didn't think anyone could do the job as good as I could.
It was all fine until my supervisor found out I was looking for another job, then everything hit the fan and it feels like I was set up to fail. My supervisor actually told me they don't fire me because they feel sorry for me and I would never be able to find another job due to what is on my permanent record. They evaluated me as hating people and being grumpy all the time. I've filled out a bunch of applications with jobs I should easily be able to get and haven't even had an interview.
How do I get past the evaluation on my current job so I can move on? If I stay longer, it just gives them more opportunity to put more crap on my record.
3 AnswersOther - Careers & Employment5 years agoHow do people find jobs quickly after being fired?
How do some people get jobs so quick after they get fired or walk of their current job? We had one person get mad and walk off the job during their shift and we had another get fired for drinking on the job. Both found better jobs within a couple weeks.
Here I am stuck on this crappy job and can't find anything else. What am I doing wrong?
5 AnswersOther - Careers & Employment5 years agoIf my apartment AC is broke and my job is crap, do I really need to give a 2 week notice to leave?
If I'm forced to move back to my mom's place which is 75 miles from my job, would that be sufficient cause to quit my job without notice? My apartment AC went out about 2 weeks ago and they can't get it fixed. The apartment manager told me just to open my door and get some fans which I had to pay for myself. My screen door doesn't latch properly so even if I lock it someone can just pull it open, so I don't feel safe with my door open. The only other window I have is in the bathroom and there's no screen so if I open it, there's just a hole in the wall.
What they will do is let me move out without penalty but they said if I want to do that, I have to be moved out by the 1st of july. They don't have another apartment for me, so I will just have to move out quickly with noplace to go. My job isn't that great, I only get $10/hr. and by the time I pay my basics, my money is gone. My car needed repairs and my bank account is $0. I have nothing for a deposit to get another place. I told my mom I was sorry I took this job and she said I should just move back to her place and try again.
I thought about driving 75 miles to work daily but my boss that that was too far and if I move now they would just consider that I quit without notice. If I give 2 weeks notice, I may not have enough time to move. My boss said if I can't afford to move, I'll just have to suck it up and live in the heat. If I give my 2 week notice to my job tomorrow, I have to work until July 4.
