  • It's been announced. Pac vs. Rios.?

What do you think of the match-up? Roach says he's happy that Arum opted for Rios instead of Alverado, as he is more hittable.

Good match-up?, or another one dimentional brawler for Pac to dispose of?

    What are your thoughts?

  • boxing:question about xylocaine usage?

    http://www.examiner.com/article/the-official-answe...

According to the above link, xylocaine isn't banned by the FDA, WADA, or USADA.

I've been hearing people say for so long that xylocaine is banned in everywhere except by the NSAC. However, I've seen no credible sourses or cited information backing this claim. I'm asking all who believe this to be true to provide a link to any credible source stating that xylocaine is a banned substance by any state athletic commission, and if possible any source with hard evidence which would lead one to believe that xylocaine is banned by all state athletic commissions in the other 49 states. Thanks.

  • Who else is done with...?

Who else is done watching this pathetic excuse that is 2012 olympic boxing? The judges don't know boxing from packaging. This $hit is utterly ridiculous.

  • Duran vs. Pryor @140?

Someone might have already asked this, but I wasn't around to see it. I've just been thinking about this and it's been grating on me. I've really got nobody locally to talk boxing with, so I figured I'd dump it on you guys. I picture...a crazy a$$ all out war down the stretch if it gets that far, and maybe Duran's defense, bodywork making a difference. Pryor was relentless though, and he had a set of whiskers himself. How do ya see this one going?

  • Roberto Duran movie in the works?

I guess this isn't so much a question as it is me expressing my excitement about a long overdue project. Apparently there's a film in the works about Roberto Duran?? I didn't know anything about this until i stumbled across it a little while ago. From what I read, this mexican actor named Gael Garcia Bernal (no clue who this guy is) is playing the part of Duran, and Usher...yes Usher is playing the part of Ray Leonard. Not sure who's directing it. All I can say is they'd better do their homework and do justice to the story, and the fighters they're portraying. Anyone else heard about this? Anyone else excited to see what comes of it? I hope its not a bust. That would piss me off.

  • Would you call Manny Pacquiao's footwork "great"?

I responded to a question the other night, and one of the sub questions asked who had better footwork between Pacquiao and Mayweather.

I said I think Mayweather had the better footwork, explained my reasoning, and then some 14 year old kid (won't name names) got pissy and said I didn't know **** about boxing lol. That's just funny to me because i've probably forgotten more than he thinks he knows, but anyway. This has nothing to do with Mayweather though. I was just curious to see if you think Pacquiao has great footwork.

If not, what flaws do you see in it?

  • Anyone interested in seeing Marquez vs Morales?

Do you think Marquez would dominate? Think it'd be remotely close?

Who wins back in the day?

Better late than never I guess.

  • Anyone just see the replay of Wolak-Rodriguez on espn classic?

I've seen this fight three or four times and it never gets old. That was a HELL OF A FIGHT!!

Fights like this are the reason I love the sport. They both gained a fan in me after that toe to toe war.

Also, I really like Steve Smoger as a referee. He did a great job in that fight. He's like the polar opposite of Joe Cortez. There is nothing wrong with letting fighters punch themselves out of tie ups and in-fight. I like that.

    Awesome fight.

  • Hopkins vs. Dawson. Who ya got?

Anyone besides me think Dawson beats B-Hop?

I think Dawson needs this to keep himself relevant, While Hopkins has belts to lose, but nothing left to prove. Win or loss, Bernard's legacy is already cemented.

If Dawson comes with the punch output he's been talking about, I think it troubles Hopkins. I expect to see a lot of holding and in fighting/dirty tactics from Hop in this one, even though he says he's trying to be more come forward.

Steward, or no Steward...I just see Dawson taking this one.

    What do you think happens?

  • Why are people so polarized when it comes to Pacquiao and Mayweather?

It seems like most everyone is either pro Mayweather or pro Pacquiao, with no in-between. I don't see why people have this mindset where they feel they have to take sides.

I'm a fan of the SPORT, first and foremost. I do think Mayweather would beat Pacquiao if they were to fight, and I've said that, but that doesn't mean I dislike Pacquiao. It seems like if you give your opinion on this fight, you're labeled by either "side" depending on your opinion. Not that I care what anyone thinks about me or my opinions, but I just think it's silly.

Like I said, I've stated my thoughts on the potential match-up before, and I've also pointed out some flaws in Pacquiao's game and the fact that I don't like all these catchweight fights he takes part in. I have never called him names though. I don't see why people get so emotionally invested in a couple of guys, seeing as how they don't even know you exist. It just doesn't make sense to me.

So, do you think this polarity among boxing fans towards these two fighters is due to ignorant fanboys who only talk about these two fighters and don't really know the sport as a whole?

Do you think it's a racial thing?

Do you think some people really mean what they say about these guys when they call them names like gayweather and gayfeather and mayfeather or pacroid or whatever the hell these stupid-*** names are that they come up with? Or do you think some people just say these things so they won't be target for backlash from their peers? by peers I mean the rest of the fanbase.

I think this whole take sides and go to war mentality among people is really stupid. What do you think about it?

  • Chris John vs Gamboa or JuanMa Lopez?

Although I consider Chris John to be wasted talent for not going mainstream, he's still big man on campus with no losses. Do either of these guys give him a loss if they were to fight?

BQ: I know Gary Russell Jr. is very green and inexperienced, but I see talent and potential. I'm not suggesting he fight any of these guys right now; but purely hypothetically speaking, If he were just thrown into the ring with any of these guys today, do you think he could give them a run?

  • Hey guys, Who's your favorite boxer of all time?

There is no best answer here. I'm not asking who the boxing community as a consensus considers to be the best of all time based on records or accomplishments, I'm just curious to see who your favorite boxers are. Guys you enjoyed watching and respect as fighters regardless of records or status. Could be current or someone from the past. There's no wrong answer. Mine is Willie Pep.

  • Anyone know anything about Panama Al Brown?

Panama Al Brown, the first hispanic world champ. I've seen some film on him and I was impressed by his sharpness, and he seemed to carry good power given his build. At 5'11 wish a 76 inch reach which is freakish for a bantamweight, he looked very coordinated and slick in his punching and lateral movement. I was really surprised at first to see how low he held his left hand, similar to Roy Jones or Mayweather and numerous other modern day fighters, but after watching him, I can see how it worked for him, and it made sense that he'd use his reach to bait with one hand and then catch his opponent blind with the other.

To be honest, I really don't have the patience to do much googling or research. I'm in college and I don't really want to do much researching unless i'm having to do a research paper so I thought i'd see if anyone here could ...well...educate me on this man if anyone knows anything about him. Once I see a fighter that catches my attention, I'm intrigued and naturally want to know more. So any interesting facts or opinions on him or his style...

(optional)or even if you'd like to give your two cents on how you think he would match up with other great bantamweights such as Jofre, Olivares, Harada, Canizalez or whoever else you can think of that you think would be an interesting matchup for him. I always like to see a good fight breakdown.

  • Which is more controversial?

    1. Wyatt Earp calling a foul on Bob Fitzsimmons, who was on the verge of knocking out Tom Sharkey, and giving the win to Sharkey on what was seen as a clean punch by everyone in the room but Earp. (Earp gained more publicity for that single fight than he did for his part in Tombstone)

(I will also note that a loaded gun that Earp intended to carry in the ring with him under his vest was confiscated by officials before the fight. People presumed it was for his own protection after seeing what they had perceived to be a fixed fight that was worth ten thousand dollars to the victor.)

    2. Russel Mora showing absolutely positively no respect for the sport of boxing or Agbeko in turning a cold shoulder to the repeated low blows landed on Agbeko by Mares in their recent fight. Totally sickening to watch.

  • Ricardo Lopez vs Jimmy Wilde at flyweight. How do you see this playing out?

A perfect technician with a ridiculously surgical left uppercut thrown with great accuracy from any distance vs a fighter who many consider to have the greatest punching power (p4p) in history.
