  • Are you an UPPIE?

There is a new wave of political, financial and social power in America. Chances are you are part of it and didn't know it. I blogged about it at:

    http://www.myspace.com/mojohns2006

and posted an article on Helium.com:

    http://www.helium.com/tm/884462/there-third-party-...

Does that apply to you? Chances are it does. You should be proud to be part of the movement that finally forces the Baby Boomers off center stage.

  • How does your congressman vote on Veterans issues?

I got this great link from www.veteran.com. You follow it, put in your zip code and the site tells you how your congressman and senator voted on recent bills affecting veterans.

So many of us here are vets and care about those who suffered for our freedoms and are still suffering. This will supply the facts behind the claims that our politicians make in public.

Others who seem to love coming to the military section to badmouth the military will find the candidates they support as well. So there's something for everyone.

  • Does it matter if convicts suffer during executions?

Recently lethal injections were halted while the courts debate whether convicts suffer during the last few minutes of their lives. I tend to concern myself with how the victims were often made to suffer at the hands of some of these monsters. A clinical injection seems already more humane than they deserve. Am I off base here?

  • Forced to vote for Fred Thompson?

I like him well enough. He a good person, not too many negatives and a pretty likeable guy. I think he can handle DC politics, domestic issues and foreign policy.

However, the Democrats are forcing me to vote for him. Why? Their shrill attacks on him even before he annouced for the race. They fear him. He's a bigger star than Rudy, more appealing than Obama and can CRUSH Hillary on just about anything.

In the end, any person who causes the Liberals to scream like little girls must be pretty good. The last guy to do that was Reagan. Is there anybody better out there?

  • He's his own grandpa?

Not in this case, but it is tricky. I've been trying to figure out the family relationships for a situation that occured during my time in the Navy. A sailor faked his own death to get away from the authorities after he made a big mistake. You see, he got a girl pregnant in Idaho . . . he also got her MOTHER pregnant at the same time!

Both ladies went into labor within hours of each other and gave birth to baby girls on the same day in the same hospital. I've been trying to structure that family tree for years now but it's hard to settle it exactly. It works best to give them names.

    John age 21

    Martha (mom) age 37

    Denise (daughter) age 19

    Anna (John & Martha's daughter)

    Beth (John & Denise's daughter)

So Anna is half sister to both Denise and Beth. But she is also Beth's aunt on her mother's side and Denise's niece on HER father's side! Huh?

To make it more fun, Idaho law required him to marry one of them. I don't know which one he chose.

  • Nuclear Specialist Badge?

Back when I first came into the fleet, I thought that Navy nukes deserved a special badge for the extra qualifications they had to do. I even designed one and submitted it to the chain. My master chief shot it done and the command didn't support the idea. Why? They told me that we are only doing our job, we didn't deserve any recognition.

My answer was this: aren't pilots just doing their job? How about Navy SEALs, or doctors? All of these guys wear distinctive badges to show the world the exemplary qualification they have achieved. I was a Machinist Mate. Looking at my uniform you could distinguish me from any other "hole snipe" (engineering rate for the non-squids out there.) I passed MM school in 13 working days right out of boot camp (it was self paced back then) but spent much of the next two years getting through the most difficult school in the world, then prototype, then ELT school. Yes the school is that tough. Only pilots cost more to train.

  • Are you past 39 but not quite 50?

I'm looking for people in their forties who are willing to take part in a project. No, I don't want money, or for you to work from home(LOL!), and I'm not looking for nude pictures. I'm looking for letters to teenage tyrants.

What I want is for you to use the years of experience you have gained in the last twenty-odd years as an adult and (probably) a parent. In fact most people in this age group are attempting to parent a teen right now. You know how they rarely listen no matter how good your advice might be.

So now, I would like you to take the time to compose a letter to a teenager you know very well . . . you.

You are living a life now that is a result of decisions made by the 18 yo knowitall you used to be. What would you say to him or her if you could write a letter now that could be sent back in time? Would you tell that person to avoid the future spouse, study harder, or skip Tommy's birthday party?

  • Are Liberals blinded by Rage?

I've noticed so many questions in the Military and Political sections have featured a distinct nastiness from the Liberals. I'm more Independent than Conservative so I read all of the questions. I have no ax to grind.

In the time I've been on this site I noticed first the uncompromising rudeness of the Liberals who both post questions and answer. Lately, they've added accusations that the Cons are just as nasty. Every question is answered with "It's Bush's fault!"

If you ask: "Who started the war?", "Who stole the Lindbergh baby?", or "Who Framed Roger Rabbit?" you get the same answer.

I recently explained how the Federal Reserve got their start under Roosevelt in 1936. The Liberal gave me the Best Answer but added "I still blame Bush."

Is that rational? We as a nation cannot function effectively while one part of our population refuses to engage in rational debate; a key part of the Democratic process. So I ask again, Is it Rage or is something else behind it?

  • Military brat movies?

Any other military brats out there? Have you ever seen a movie that accurately portrays our unique upbrining?

    - travelling every few years,

    - switching to a "local" accent to blend in,

    - trying to explain where you've been the past ten years,

    - brining authentic artifacts from overseas to show & tell,

    - try to find a prom date when you don't know anybody in town.

    we are a strange lot!

  • The worst President in the last 50 years . . .?

So many people are quick to say Bush. They are either ignorant of history, or slept through the 70's.

    - gas prices tripled in most places and long lines at gas stations.

    - Inflation killed the economy reaching a staggering 21%.

    - Unemployment was at the highest levels since the great Depression above 8% nationally, 11% for Blacks in most places.

    - the military was in shambles, had no money for training or spare parts.

    - the moral in the military was lower than it was during the Viet Nam war.

    - the Dow Jones was microscopic compared to today, 4-600!

    - the government stole the Olympic dreams of the American athletes by not letting them go to the Moscow Games, even though they had not given one penny to support those athletes in their training.

    - allowed 52 hostages to be held for 444 days by Iran!

    - got a Nobel Peace Prize for brokering a peace deal that did nothing but hurt Israel and strengthen the Arab terrorists.

  • What's the point?

Lately we've seen a lot of racist questions, pro Hitler questions and other inherently insulting question posted. many of us rationally answer these postings only to see them repeated a week or so later. Can some one explain why this is happening?

  • Voters, are you that stupid?

Americans like to think they are pretty much up on current events. They try to know a little something about the people on the ballot. Yet time and again, we are told that the people we put in office are dumb, they are imbeciles, they are too dumb to walk and chew gum.

After two election failures by the "Smart" candidates we are now being told WE are stupid too. We even rejected the guy who invented the internet!

Are we so dumb that we can't decide who we want to handle our foreign affairs?

Do we have enough sense to determine who is best for our economy?

Why don't we just blindly vote for the smart party and let them make all of our decisions for us?

Perhaps this will make America a perfect place. Am I wrong here?
