How can I prove my independence to my parents? 16 years old?
My parents are both very intelligent, open minded, mindful, flexible (fill in the blank here) people. If I act a little differently from them, they call me irrational, crazy, emotional (fill in the blank here).
I will be sixteen years old in six months, and I would prefer to not be treated like a two year old. However, if I ask my parents that, I am being negative and complaining and (fill in the blank here). Apparently, not wanting to be reminded to eat and drink and (fill in the blank here) is weird.
They keep telling me I am acting strangely because I am demanding some respect for once in my life. I grew up the youngest in a fairly large family. Both my parents came from very strict parents and they compare everything I do to what their sisters/brothers/etc. did growing up.
IT ANNOYS ME. Help.

11 AnswersRoyalty1 decade agoQuestion for Twilight fans? (or non Twilight fans, if you want)?
Twilight fans: First of all, I'm not criticizing your taste or opinions, so please don't get all "You're so stupid Twilight is the best!!!" on me, okay? You're entitled to your opinions (just as I am entitled to mine). I'm just wondering though (and again, I'm sorry if I'm offending anyone, because that's not my intention; I'm just curious) - why do so many "Twi-hards" (cute name) insist that Stephanie Meyer is such a terrific writer? I certainly understand why you may like her books, but many Twilight fans call her writing "literature" or "beautiful prose". This makes no sense to me. Yes, everyone is entitled to their own opinion, but good quality writing isn't so much a matter of opinion as it is fact: You want beautiful prose, go to John Updike. You want an exciting, juicy, page-turning vampire love story, go to Stephanie Meyer. I don't see how Twi-hards don't realize that. Do you think that it's because they haven't read enough to be able to determine good literature, or what?
Another question - do you Twilight fans love Twilight in spite of the fact that it's sexist...or do you not think it's sexist? What do you think about the people who complain about the series being sexist/anti-feministic? Do you think they're right; if not, why not? What would you say in response to them?
Okay, I know I said this question is for Twilight fans, but of course any one is welcome to answer! All your insights/opinions will be interesting to me.
7 AnswersBooks & Authors1 decade agoHow do I make YouTube videos like this? [examples]?
You know how people make YouTube videos with clips from television shows or movies set to a certain song? (Examples: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FDRLL6dAAHk , http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=p4AnWemK3LU) How can I make videos like that? Like, do I need a specific type of software, and where can I get the clips? Any help would be appreciated! Sorry if this is a dumb question...I'm kind of technologically challenged :] Thanks.
1 AnswerYouTube1 decade agoQuestion about sex: Is this normal for a 14 year old?
I'm 14 years old. Is it normal for me to be feeling curious about sex? My mom and older sister - who are both pretty conservative - think that I'm "sex-obsessed" (which I'm definitely not) and that I'm "getting too big for my boots". My sister even said I was acting slutty - just for being curious - and I'm a virgin. When I try to talk to my mom or ask her questions about it, she either gets mad or brushes me off and says "Sex is an ADULT activity!!" She thinks it's very wrong and bad for teenagers to have sex, and she doesn't want to talk to me about it. I respect her beliefs, but I wish she'd be more open and communicative with me about this. I'm NOT planning on having sex anytime soon - I don't even have a boyfriend! - but I can't help being curious. My mom and sister make me feel guilty for thinking about sex, like it's "wrong" or "bad". Are they right? Am I normal? Thanks!
17 AnswersAdolescent1 decade agoWhy do you think people are so intrigued by Anne Boleyn?
"There's something about Anne..."
...that made her so intriguing to everyone from Henry VIII to Henry Percy. Even today, historians and writers (Joanna Denny, Eric Ives, Phillipa Gregory, Robin Maxwell, to name a few) write countless books on her, and there are movies like The Other Boleyn Girl and shows like The Tudors that all portray her slightly differently. And there are so many other people who are fascinated by her as well...many think of her as Henry VIII's most interesting wife. So, in your opinion, what made/makes Anne Boleyn so intriguing?
1 AnswerHistory1 decade agoPregnant teens/teen moms: How do you feel about...?
A question for pregnant teens/teen moms: How do you feel about how teen pregnancy/motherhood is portrayed on television shows and movies (i.e.; The Secret Life of the American Teenager; 90210; Juno; 16 and Pregnant)? Do you think the media's portrayal is accurate/inaccurate, glamorized, similar/different from your experiences, unrealistic...etc? I'm just wondering what you guys think, since teenage pregnancy seems to be a big entertainment/media "trend". Thanks for your opinions :)
19 AnswersAdolescent1 decade agoCan you please read this excerpt and tell me what you think?
Again, this is a rough draft - I haven't edited it yet. So some of the grammar/mechanics might be a little off. By the way, I'm 14.
3 AnswersBooks & Authors1 decade agoCan you read the beginning of my story and tell me what you think?
I'm writing a story about kids in high school and the things they go through; I'm kind of still in the planning stages with the plot but I have most of the characters sketched out already. The story is going to alternate between the viewpoints of four different characters (it's in third person, but I'll be telling the story through their points of consciousness, if you know what I mean) who are all interconnected... I've written the very first part - it's just a rough draft, pretty short, but if you could read it and tell me what you think that would be greatly appreciated.
Amy hated Scarlett. She hated how her angelic blonde hair shined under fluorescent lighting and curled prettily around her shoulders—unlike her own hair, which was lank and limp and dirt-brown. Amy hated how Scarlett always seemed to know the right answer in class—all the teachers loved her. Since when was it fair for pretty girls to be smart, too? She hated how everyone, even people from other schools, seemed to know who she was, like she was a damn celebrity or something: Scarlett Harris, the Scarlett Harris, varsity soccer player; student council president; homecoming queen. Beautiful, blonde Scarlett Harris, all around golden girl; voted most popular every year. It had been like that ever since elementary school: Everyone noticed Scarlett – especially boys. They stared at her, talked to her, flirted with her. Amy hated this too. Boys never noticed her. Nobody did.
Obviously, Amy and Scarlett are two of the main characters. Can you tell anything about what kind of characters they are (especially Amy) from reading this? Any feedback, advice, tips, predictions, etc? Thanks!
6 AnswersBooks & Authors1 decade agoWhy do so many teen girls consider Edward to be the 'perfect' boyfriend?
Okay, I'm not saying this to make fun of Twilight or criticize people for liking it...so please don't get all "Twilight is amazing stop being a hater!!!!" on me. I'm just genuinely concerned about the fact that so many girls say that they want an "Edward Cullen" for themselves because he's so perfect...really? You want someone who stalks you, emotionally abuses you, controls you, and threatens suicide if you leave him? Yeah, that sounds like a great boyfriend to me. As a young woman and feminist, it really worries me that so many girls think that it's okay for a boy to treat his girlfriend like this - and that in fact this type of behavior makes him "perfect". Does anyone agree with me here?

16 AnswersAdolescent1 decade agoSurvey for guys: Physically, what do you like in a girl?
I'm giving you permission to be shallow; I'm talking physical qualities only here. I'm just wondering what, in general, you like in a girl physically. I'm curious to see what guys say about this. Please be specific - like, hair; face; body type; height, etc. And if possible, give examples of, like, a celebrity or something who has that specific trait. Thanks
