  • Should I perform the monologue that is funnier or the one I feel I perform better?

I am auditioning for a director I've never worked with before for Noises Off, a stage comedy, in ten days. I'm required to perform a monologue for him as part of my audition. I have several monologues at my disposal and have narrowed it down to two I can perform verbatim.

One monologue is funny and described as "comic", while the other monologue is described as "Serio-Comic". I can see the humor in both but the comic monologue is more "laugh out loud funny" while the serio-comic monologue has a "That's funny because I can relate to it" vibe. The catch is I truly feel the latter monologue in my heart and have no problem performing it because I too feel what the character feels in that situation, whereas with the comedic monologue I can perform, but in real life I've never experienced the situation the character has, so it doesn't seem genuine (at least to me, other people I have read this to said it was well done)

Should I perform the funnier one or the one I can relate to better?

  • Why is it that the general public does not like musical theatre?

As an actor and Musical veteren, I tend to spend most of my time with people who love the genre, but as I read review after review of Tim Burtons film adaptation of Sweeney Todd, almost all of them preface or end the review with "I/Most people don't like Musicals..."

My question is, why is this? Are people not willing to suspend their disbelief for a few hours and go with the idea that people can spontaneously break into song? Personally I think REAL life would be a lot better that way, but I digress.

Anyone here willing to delve into the human psyche, put your finger on the pulse of society, and venture a guess as to why Musical Theatre is so looked down upon today? Best answer gets 10 points!

  • Ladies, settle a bet: Men painting their fingernails CLEAR...?

What reaction do you have to a guy painting his nails clear? Does this show good hygiene? Is this gay? There is no wrong answer on this one. I have my opinion and my girlfriend has hers, but I will give ten points to whomever defends their position the best, even if I don't agree with it. Good luck!

  • Where can I go to watch the UCLA/Oregon game on Saturday?

I live out of market (Rochester, NY) and need to know if there's a bar, channel, PPV option available to me. I don't think it's on Gameplan for some reason, but I could be wrong. Ten points at stake here! Thanks in advance!

  • Which US University has the best theatre/acting program?

I'm looking to go to school to major in theatre/acting with the goal of pursuing an acting career. Do agents/casting directors tend to favor actors with formal training over those who do not in most cases? If so, where is the best place to receive this formal training in the United States? Thanks in advance!
