  • One goldfish is perpetually lethargic; other one okay. What's up?

***I am not a fish expert. These are the first fish I've had in about a decade.

I have a 20 gallon tank with two small gold fish (both black moors) in it (I know a larger tank would be optimal, but I'm going to wait until they grow a bit more to upgrade).

Both fish are between 4 and 6 months old and are visually very healthy. Scales look good, neither struggle to swim or breathe, no gulping for air, etc.

However, one fish just sits at the bottom of the tank and doesn't move. Occasionally he'll swim around (doesn't have any trouble doing so; isn't slow or labored), but otherwise does NOTHING. I have not seen this fish eat in months, but he's still alive, so he must be eating at some point.

The other fish is very active, swimming around constantly. He comes up to the tank when I walk by, swims to the surface to eat, and has a really good appetite.

I've been checking my water regularly. pH is fine, temperature is fine, oxygen seems okay. I keep the water clean, and my bacterial colonies seem good (although I'm not really sure how to monitor their health accurately).

I'm just not sure what his problem is. Maybe he's just shy?

  • Where can I download or purchase a censored version of Jurassic Park (1993)?

I own the entire collection on DVD (huge fan) and plan on showing it my 6th and 8th grade math classes as preparation for an end-of-year project. However, the movie is rated PG-13 for dino gore and language. While this is fine for my 14/15 year old 8th graders, it might be a little much for my 12ish 6th graders.

Mostly I'm just concerned about the language. Yes, I know, they've heard (and used) it all before, but in order to show it I need permission from parents, and I don't want to have to exclude a bunch of kids if I don't have to.

So, does anyone know where I can find a censored version (with language cut out; I'm not worried about the gore as it's not too intense)?

  • Why would one side of the diaphragm be elevated (and in pain)?

My boyfriend went to the ER for chest pains; I couldn't get down to be with him, and he completely neglected to ask even basic questions, so he has no idea what went on while he was there. He's going back next week for an appointment when more doctors are readily available.

Apparently most of the doctors are on vacation and he could only meet with a nurse practitioner, who had little idea what was wrong with him. He has a slight fever. EKG was fine. X-rays showed that part of his diaphragm is elevated (idk what part, how, or to what extent; he didn't ask). They prescribed an antibiotic for "possible infection" (once again, for where or what idk; not pleased with bf's complete lack of questioning or info gathering).

What could be the problem? I suppose some form of mild pneumonia is possible, but I'm not medically inclined enough to know or even to find much useful info after googling his symptoms.

  • What speakers should I get for my gaming computer?

I recently got into pc gaming, and I'm in the market for some speakers. I have limited desk space, so I'm not looking for a full-surround sound system or anything, but I don't want something tiny either.

Right now I have some crap dual speakers and subwoofer, which don't work too terribly well. I like the setup, but the quality is a bit sucky. The volume is fine, but it gets quite tinny higher up and the bass (which is very important too me), leaves a lot to be desired; I want to feel it in my chest.

I'm not really tech savvy when it comes to specs, but for reference I have a fairly new Alienware laptop which is running Windows 7.

Right now my price range is ~$150, but I'm open to suggestions.

  • Help finding a new laptop and tablet (picky details)?

***Note, I'm looking for a graphics art tablet compatible with photoshop, not the typical iPad type thing.

So, I've had my laptop for four years and my tablet for six and they are most certainly giving out. I'm really not too good at finding what I want on the internet, so any help would be appreciated!

For the laptop I'm looking for:

*Windows (please don't tell me to get Apple or another operating system; I've tried them, and I don't like them; personal preference)

*I don't really care what brand

*Wireless internet capable (hopefully this is just standard nowadays)

*At least 3 usb ports preferable

*Pretty good memory space; I also have an external hard drive, but I'd like to be able to save programs and some word documents/pictures on the computer itself

*GREAT graphics card/capabilities; I'm an art junkie and run photoshop/tablet software quite often in addition to spending a lot time meticulously staring at images; this is extremely important

*I do play some online games, namely League of Legends, so it needs to be capable of that, i.e. good video card; I don't need a gaming computer per say, but I would love if it could handle high tech games (such as the Elder Scrolls, Final Fantasy, etc.)

*I'm an Education student in college, so I will definitely be processing a lot of Word and Acrobat documents (I suppose I can just buy Microsoft Office separate, but it'd be great if it was already loaded)

*I'd like it to have decent speakers; like everyone else I love me some music

*I would love to have a lot of aesthetic customization options for the cover (and anything else; I'm not really aware of what's available anymore)

*I do torrent occasionally, but I'm not sure if there are any specific requirements for that

*Battery life is subjective; I keep my laptop in my room and fairly close to a power source at all times. I don't want a wimpy battery, but I don't need a marathon runner either

*I'd really like something speedy and powerful (what everyone wants, lol)

*Price isn't really a factor at this point; I don't really want to spend more than $2000, but that's a subjective limit as I'm planning on keeping this comp for at least another four years, hopefully more

    For the tablet:

*I currently have an old, old, old Bamboo Fun Tablet, and I love it

*I'd kind of like something newer and better, i.e. not a Bamboo Fun Tablet (although I am considering it, I just don't need suggestions for it)

*Medium-high pressure sensitivity; tilt sensitivity would be good as well

*My current tablet has about a 6 x 3.5 inch drawing area, which I'm happy with (no smaller; slightly bigger okay)

    *Compatible with photoshop

    *I don't need a lot of options/software/etc.

    *I don't need something extremely high-end and fancy; I'm a hobbyist, not a professional

*I'd prefer not to spend more than $200, hopefully less

Sorry, I know that's a lot of info. I know what I want, even if I don't know how to go about finding it. >.<

  • What kind of batteries should I get for my Nikon AW100?

I just decided to purchase a Nikon AW100 for my upcoming cross cultural trip. We'll be traveling around the rainforests of Bolivia and staying in a research station on the Galapagos Isles, so I won't have regular access to a power outlet to charge a rechargeable battery. Are there any other options available? Should I purchase multiple batteries?

Also, do I need any other accessories? Should I invest in an HDMI cable of some sort?

  • How do I determine the speed of the sound source using the Doppler Effect?

    The question is word-for-word:

"Standing at a crosswalk, you hear a frequency of 560 HZ from the siren of an approaching ambulance. After the ambulance passes, the observed frequency is 480 HZ. Determine the ambulance's speed from these observations."

For when the ambulance is approaching I'm using the equation F1=(V/V-Vs)F.

F1 = the observed frequency in Hertz

V= the speed of sound in meters per second (in air at 70 degrees Fahrenheit it is 343 m/s)

Vs= the speed of the source in meters per second

F= the actual frequency the actual frequency in Hertz

For when the ambulance is moving away from the observer I'm using the equation F1=(V/V+Vs)F.

The actual frequency (F) of the sound is not given.

The correct answer is 26.4 m/s, but I have no idea how to get it without the sound's actual frequency. Obviously I can calculate the actual frequency from the equations since I know the answer to the question, but I need to know how to actually do the problem. : (

Can I somehow set the two equations equal to one another or something?
