  • How successful will a Honda Fit be when driving in the mountains?

I live in Florida and am planning on moving out of state. I'm considering selling my 2009 Honda Fit for an SUV that will be better equipped to deal with harsher weather and steeper inclines - my Honda has 116 HP and front wheel drive. I'm concerned that on icy roads, it won't be heavy or powerful enough to handle well.

  • Are my Florida teacher's certifications in grades K-6, ESOL, and Reading Endorsement transferable to Alaska?

I'm considering moving, but I can't consider the possibility unless I know my teaching certifications will be valid in Alaska if they are from Florida. I have not been able to find this information on the North Star Alaskan education website, and the person I emailed about it forwarded my message along to someone else whom I have yet to hear back from at all.

  • Can I use permanent hair dye on my hair after shampooing it on the same day?

I washed it with color shampoo, did not condition it, and after it dries naturally I'd like to dye it to a new color. Will this burn my hair or make the color fade faster?

  • Oak Crest roll top desk from Vernon, California?

I found a beautiful solid wood roll top desk in an antique store, the brass nameplate over the key latch says Oak Crest, and the hand inked label inside says Oak Crest, Vernon, California. Does anyone know if this desk really is an antique?

  • What are the differences between the four major credit card companies?

Its time for me to get my first credit card, but I don't know what the different benefits/liabilities are between Amex, Discover, Visa, and Mastercard. Visa is obviously the most widely accepted, followed by Mastercard, but are they exactly the same and just competing companies or are there significant differences in interest rates, rewards, additional fees, etc?

  • What's this I hear about NASA shutting down the shuttles?

I heard from one of my students' parents that NASA is only planning five more launches with the space shuttles, and then they are planning on ending the space program for some time, renovating or rebuilding the shuttles, something like that. I haven't been able to find anything about it on the NASA site, was wondering if anyone else had read/seen/heard anything factual about this or if its just a rumor.

  • What's with all the mermaid spells?

I understand kids deciding they all want to "change" into vampires because of the pop culture Twilight fad, and I get that pirates came into popularity with Pirates of the Caribbean, but I'm stumped about the mermaid/merman stuff. Is that connected to Harry Potter, or has that just randomly suddenly become the new "thing" that 14 somethings all want to get magic spells to turn into?

  • Why has Firefox stopped offering to remember my username/passwords?

It used to have this little bar that would slide down under the tab buttons and store the passwords in Firefox, rather than as a cookie--I have always had Firefox browse automatically in private mode upon opening, and that has never deterred it from remembering my passwords until recently. What changed?

  • Dealer invoice price?

Planning on buying a new car, and the only website I've found that gives dealer invoice pricing on their new cars is at consumerreports.com, which makes you pay a subscription fee for that information. Obviously this is info that the dealerships don't want consumers to know, just curious to know if anyone had found a free site or somewhere cheaper than consumer reports that will give that information. Thanks :)

  • Best method for taking spirulina supplements?

I've been researching spirulina supplements and have decided to start taking them, but there are so many options in pill form--I want to avoid the powders. Some places sell them in 500 mg tablets and say take TWELVE a day--which seems like a lot?--and some sites recommend 720 mg tablets two or three times a day. What brands of spirulina would you recommend, and how many mgs per day should I be taking if I also take a daily multivitamin and separate vitamin B12 complex and vitamin C supplements?

  • What are the significant differences between the 2003 and 2010 editions of the Children's Market?

Amazon doesn't give much information about the 2003 edition, has anyone read both the '03 and '09/'10 editions of Children's Writer's & Illustrator's Market? Opinions? Good value for the money?

  • Question about tattoo removal?

I have a quarter sleeve in faded (VERY faded) black ink that covers my shoulder and goes down to about midway between my shoulder and elbow, and covers the front of my arm with an artistic tree design. It is about three years old, has seen multiple sun burns, and is beginning to interfere in my career. I've decided that its time to say goodbye to it and get it removed. I'm wondering about how many sessions of laser removal I'd have to sit through to get one of this size taken care of?

  • Our desktop computer was struck by lightning, the power supply is is shot, how did the surge protector work?

Just curious, how does a surge protector actually work to protect appliances if the computer was fried while plugged into it? Does it have something to do with the little red light on the power switch being lit or unlit?

  • Is there some reason I can't get Avast Antivirus to run on a Windows Vista Home Basic OS?

The Avast website says that the latest version of their free home edition should operate correctly on Windows Vista, and it will download from the site to the computer, but when I click the icon to run the download and install it, nothing happens. I've downloaded it twice from the same source and both times the download was successful. Anyone else having this problem with Avast, or have any thoughts on why Vista is blocking it from running? (There are no other antivirus software programs installed on the computer)

  • Why do so many people post their ages and heights in questions to check if they are under or over weight?

Seriously people, if its a pressing issue, just Google your BMI and find out for yourself, rather than announcing to the world that you're underweight and need validation or overweight and need sympathy! You are human! Love your body for the fact that it functions correctly and is young and strong, get over your morbid body dysmorphic disorders and get reacquainted with what really matters in life!

  • What are some interesting cities I can travel to without needing to rent a car (ie has a metro/subway)?

want to travel without the expense of a car rental, and although the occasional use of a taxi would be okay, we'd like to be somewhere that we can mostly get to everything on foot once we're in a central location
