  • Programming project: process of birth, survival and death?

    Assume that there is a living organism simulated by a 2-D array

    #define max 20

    char life[max][max];

    Each cell holds a star or it is blank. The star represents the presence of a living

    organism, the blank its absence. The process of birth, survival and death are

    simulated by applying three rules:

     Birth rule: the organism is born into an empty cell if it has exactly three living

    neighbors.

     Survival rule: the organism survives if it has two or three living neighbors.

     Death rule: the organism dies of overcrowding if it has four or more

    neighbors, and dies of loneliness if it has less than two neighbors.

    An example of neighborhood is shown below. The cell A has exactly eight neighbors.

    * * *

    * A *

    * * *

    Examples for the three rules above are shown below where A denotes the cell under

    consideration. First the birth rule: and organism is born into cell A because it has

    exactly three neighbors.
