Not sure can trust in laws to babysit?
my husband is deploying in a few months so we are traveling over 14hrs with 2 kids under 2 and 2 cats for a week to visit with family. my husband wants 2 nights for maybe 2 hrs alone meaning my inlaws and then parents will babysit. we have gone out alone once for 2hrs when my daughter was 11months never with my son. by the visit my daughter will just turn 2 and my son will be 7 months. With the other grandkids my in laws still use foul language one kid had to tell my mil he was drunk and acting funny and she's made comments to one saying she was annoying and all kids when she started school would laugh at her and even had nerve to call her fat! These are not acceptable to me and I'm afraid if I set rules she won't follow them. I suggested we just hire someone for both nights but he said he'd rather them even tho theyve only seen my daughter twice and son never. my son thankfully is in good health my daughter is special needs so I'm still hesitant, does anyone have any suggestions or can you help ease my fears? Is it normal to be concerned leaving my 2 kids for the first time with strangers to me kids? I want time with my husband before deploying but not comfortable with my inlaws watching kids and would trust someone hired who must follow my rules but husband doesn't agree.
4 AnswersParenting9 years agoHaving c section alone?
with my first daughter I had an emergency classical c section so am scheduled next month at 36weeks for our 2nd. We just moved and know literally nobody here. My mom is going to come after my husbands paternity leave is up to help however during delivery the only option we have is to have my husband watch our 17 month old in waiting room leaving me alone in the operating room. Has anyone had a c section alone and what were your experiences? This time I won't be under general anesthesia and while husband is allowed in this time he won't be able to so I'm nervous. I should also add we've never left our daughter longer then 4hrs and she just got out a body cast yesterday and is on medication for health issues so having someone we know and trust is the only way we'd not watch her ourselves.
1 AnswerPregnancy10 years agohow to politely ask in laws to not take excessive pictures and be respectful of our home?
my in laws are visiting soon and have somehow already managed to ignore our wishes by booking tickets 2 days longer then agreed upon they also expect us to play taxi driver, maid service to cook and clean after them, and pay for everything and not contribute at all. my main concern this visit is my 14month old is in a body cast and my mil plays paparrazi knowing i dislike a million photos being taken she waits til i leave the room to literally fill a memory card full. last visit she was on oxygen and make insensitive comments about how we needed to take it off so she could get better pictures then showed others and gave too much info in my opinion. i dont mind pictures however there is a limit at which its excessive and altho i wont be around to hear rude or ignirant comments by others i dont feel comfortable knowing she will show them to random strangers such as waitors or cashiers then when asked about cast will tell out entire story and personal info i feel is no one elses buisness unless me or my husband as parents choose to share. i already think too many people know the private matter of our pregnancy complications yes she is a miracle but it should be left at that not in great detail. my husband wont say anything he doesnt want to upset her even if he agrees with me which in turn upsets me so is there a polite way i could ask them to not show pictures to people we dont know or to be respectful to me and pick up after themselves and possibly not expect us to pay for everything when staying with us?
1 AnswerFamily10 years agoc section and caring for toddler?
i am scheduled to have a c section at 36weeks and my daughter will be 17 months at the time of delivery. she has multiple health problems and due to being preemie is only 15lbs and we don't expect her to gain much weigh in the next 2 months the other problem is that my husband only gets 10 days to help me so after that i will pretty much be on my own. last time i was told after 2 weeks if off medicine i could drive which i can totally be off medicine by 10 days and drive if she has dr appts but what about lifting? she is currently in a hip spica (body cast) after surgery and should be out just in time for the new baby however due to developmental delays and her hip was not even beginning to sit on her own before cast so she can not stand or help me pick her or move her at all she is totally reliant on us to move her. she is also on medication every six hours and has become very spoiled wanted held non stop which i am trying to break her of. we have never left her with anyone other then a close friend at our last post for longer then 3 hrs and now we just moved and no nobody who we can trust. i have only left her for 4hrs so this will be an adjustment for me as well. my mother offered to fly here to watch her during the delivery but has to get back to work after 2 weeks or so. my husband made a suggestion of his mom coming after 10 days but that is extreme stress as we do not get along and she has made poor choices in watching my neices and i do not trust her. i know my mil would not be helping but would be coming for a free trip to play paparrazzi and cause more stress and judgement so i am totally against it and trying to find a solution.
7 AnswersParenting10 years agoIs this unreasonable to ask of mil?
My Parents are visiting soon and I mentioned having them help unpack bc i am currently pregnant and have an over 8000lb shipment coming just a week before their visit. My in laws are coming soon after that and with a special needs child already unpacking alone may take me some time. I mentioned having them help as well bc even in a wheelchair my dad will try to help and in bad health so will my mom his parents are in good health and I'm not asking with help of big items. I mentioned maybe having his mom carry light items such as Teddy bears or pillows for me to help and he said she has a recent issue of not being able to grip items as if parAlyzed. I understand but then grew concerned over her holding and carrying my 15lb daughter who may still be in body cast. He mentioned her holding other grandchildren fine but it seems fishy she offers to help then I'm told she can't and won't carry light items but wishes to hold my much heavier child. would I be wrong for asking if she honestly can't lift small items to help that she not lift heavier more delicate things such as my child in a cast?! I'm not making them help unpack either before rude comments but she keeps offering to help using as excuse for us to pay their expenses and way here after they are broke from excessive spending and her refusing to work. They will be staying in our home so I'm not asking them to come here strictly to help or for a designated time just if we have spare time to make good on their offer to help.
2 AnswersFamily10 years agochanging diaper on plane?
i will start by saying my family will be moving from hawaii to nc in the next week. my daughter turns 1 two days before we leave and i am curious as to how to change diapers on a cramped plane. we don't have another option of travel as i would have chose to drive and since the army paid for the tickets we had no say in the booking process so we will be going to atlanta first which is a 9 hr flight and she will need to be changed. i have heard of people changing their child on the toilet seat but besides the fact that it is unsanitary and my daughter has lung and heart disease and gets sick easily i don't see how having a wiggling child on a raised surface that is too small to lay on is safe. would it be possible to change on the floor in the gallery area or where the bathrooms are located? we will have her carseat so there will not be a lot of room in the seats and we will have 2 cats and multiple bags both carry on and medical supplies. i have never had to fly with a child before and am curious as to where parents change their children on a plane.
8 AnswersAir Travel1 decade agoPersonal item or carry on for delta?
I asked this question differently a while back and got a rude answer so this is my 2nd shot. So my husband 1yr old daughter and 2 cats are flying delta on military orders next week I'm confused on baggage policies. What is a personal item compared to carry on? Our 2 cats will be 2 of our 3 carry ons my cpap machine And medicines are medical and free so can a laptop and diaper bag be 2 of 3 personal items? We want to take maybe 1 additional bag but not sure if diaper bag and laptop are personal items or cArry ons. I will also have stroller and car seat which I'm told are free. Thanks in advance. So overall 2 cats, diaper bag, tote bag, laptop, cpap bag will this be within our allowed amount?
2 AnswersOther - Destinations1 decade agobaggage question when flying delta?
me, my husband, 2 cats, and 1yr old will be flying delta from hawaii to nc and because we are moving due to military orders we get 3 bags up to 70lbs but my issue is carry on bags and carseat. i have read that bc the carseat is large the person in front wont be able to recline and seeing as how the army paid 1043 for her a seat i don't think its right of others to complain but will this cause a problem? also bc of the time of yr we have to ship our cats in cabin so that counts as a carry on taking both me and my husbands alloted bags. does my child get a carry-on? is it by the seat or person b/c she cant carry it? i will have a cpap bag and medication and insulin and needles for myself which doesn't count as a bag but does a diaper bag? does this mean we will not get any carry on bags allowed? thanks in advance
1 AnswerAir Travel1 decade agoinfant car seats by weight or age limit?
my question is i currently have a graco infant snugrude that goes to 22lbs and 29inches. my daughter is going to be a year next month and is only 14.6lbs and 25inches so my question is if there is a age limit on car seats or if she can continue to use it until she reaches either the height or weight limit. we are due for another baby in nov so by then we will need to move her if we havent already but just curious.
5 AnswersNewborn & Baby1 decade agorepeat c section scar?
i recently found out i am pregnant after having an emergency c section 10 months ago. i have my first appt and ultrasound next week however i am impatient in getting answers. my daughter was born at 28wks after my water broke at 13wks so they had to do a vertical incision my question is will they use the same vertical incision this time even if not an emergency? they have said that they will take the baby at 36wks but i am curious at to what incision they may use. to be clear i never have nor will i ever wear a bikini so i am not worried about that and my mother had the same issue with me and my sister and since i wasn't emergency they did a seperate horizontal cut so she has 2 and to me i don't get it.
1 AnswerPregnancy1 decade agofoods for almost 7 month old?
my daughter is 9.5months but corrected bc born at 28wks is only 6 almost 7 months. i forgot to ask at her 9 month checkup what to feed her especially seeing as how it was a different dr who had no clue of her history. we started at about 5 months on cereal and oatmeal then a few weeks later on the gerber jars of fruit and veggies. she may take half a bowl of oatmeal and half a bowl of cereal and one jar of either fruit or veggies a day then her normal 19oz of formula (she has bpd so 19oz is normal for her plus it's 24calories). she just sprouted her first tooth yesterday so does this later down the line affect anything. i am curious if i could introduce anything else like maybe jar meat food. she has yet to get the concept of a sippy cup and can't hold her own bottle or sit up but it seems like she should be eating a larger variety of foods. thanks for any thoughts i am going to try to get a hold of her dr and ask but just curious what if anything i should ask is ok to eat.
5 AnswersNewborn & Baby1 decade agodo babies need fruits in diet?
we recently started introducing jar baby food to our daughter the dr said to try veggies first bc once they taste sweet fruit they would rather them. my husband doesnt want her to grow up with bad eating habits and has insisted on feeding her only veggies and not allowing her to tast or try fruits until maybe she is old enough to eat normal table food. do babies need fruit in their diets? is it ok to only feed veggies? i know she gets formula and cereal and oatmeal but i don't see this as causing obesity considering she is only 7 months(4corrected). she is also on vitamins which she has been on since about 36wks which is why he thinks its not a big deal.
5 AnswersNewborn & Baby1 decade agoin law visit with new baby need advice?
ok so my mother came right after our daughter was born to help me she cooked, cleaned, drove me around and helped. it is expensive to fly to hawaii so sadly my father could not come however my husbands parents have asked that we pay to fly them out here which i am mad about since my mil doesn't work and the are broke bc of her shopping addiction. so they are coming in dec and staying with us and i know they will not help at all and say they are coming for the baby yet asked my husband to take off work after he didnt even take time when she came home from hospital. ok so heres my question...our daughter is referred to as the miracle baby she has multiple medical problems that require her to be on oxygen and a monitor, several medications, and drs visits at a hospital 40mis away and may get surgery before they come. i am not comfortable with them picking her up without asking or being alone with them b/c she has mentioned and asked us to take off our daughters oxygen for a better picture!!!!! she also gave us trouble when we asked her to get a flu shot before coming seeing as how it could be fatal to our daughter. would it be wrong to expect them to ask before picking up or daughter or holding her or basically doing anything with her? she was in nicu for 89 days so i am very protective of her my own mother only held her once for 15 mins when she was here for 3weeks and there were nurses to help with equipment.
6 AnswersNewborn & Baby1 decade agotreatment or testing for amniotic fluid leak?
it's been around 9 days now since i began to have gushes of fluid and leaking and i have been to the dr twice since then the first was a day after it started the other yesterday. i was told that my fluid was really low and that for now there was still a heartbeat when i asked what caused it she said she thinks it is a tear making it leak. i asked so many questions all of which got me nowhere i was told to wait and see which is making it worse to be positive. i was 13wks 5days when it started and almost 15wks now does anyone know if there is indeed a way to tell where the tear is or what size or the amount of time it will take to close if it does? the doctor doesn't seem to care i do not agree with a wait and see approach is there really nothing they can do or test to check it? i was not put on bedrest just told not to go walking the malls or anything but i continue to leak and gush fluid so if it does replenish i lose it again as of now it seems to be looking the same.
4 AnswersPregnancy1 decade agowater breaking at 14 weeks and possible outcome?
i went tot he dr the other day and was told the problem i experienced the day before was my water breaking and that there was little to no fluid left. i was 13 weeks 5 days at the time it happened i was wondering what the chances are that the fluid could return and if not what would happen. if this ends badly how would they go about removal being that it would be after 14 weeks. i am trying to be positive and be strong but i am curious if anyone else ever had this problem and what happened.
9 AnswersPregnancy1 decade agoleaking fluid at 13wks 5 days?
i am currently 13 weeks and 5 days pregnant i noticed yesterday while laying in bed reading i had a gush of clear fluid i felt like i had lost control of my bladder then from that point on i had what felt like a air bubble that popped and released fluid again. i ended up putting a pad on to go to sleep and noticed the clear liquid had dried with a yellowish tint. this morning i was moving a rug then stood up to another gush and when i wiped to clean myself up and change underwear it was brownish. i am sorry it tmi but i have no idea what it is and why it continues it does not have a smell which is why i do not think it is urine. any ideas? i am trying to call an advice nurse but she is out of office till the afternoon.
3 AnswersPregnancy1 decade agocan depression get worse during pregnancy?
my question is i have and have had severe depression for close to 10 years now i have been taking wellbutrin and celexa which has greatly helped. me and my husband tried for a long time to get pregnant so we were very happy when we found out although it seems like now the smallest things get me upset. it seems my depression has gotten bad again to the point of thinking if it weren't for pregnancy suicide wouldn't be a bad idea. i would never do anything to hurt the baby during pregnancy so that stops me but has anyone else experienced this? i know women tend to cry alot when pregnant but i seem to do it alot and don't realize alot of times when my husband says i am mopey.

i am currently pregnant and will be flying with my husband to new orleans from honolulu. we are going with continental from honolulu to houston which is around an 8hr flight. my question is since we leave at 950 at night hawaii time and arrive in houston at 930 their time will they provide a meal? we will only have a 45 minute layover so that leaves little to no time to eat b4 catching our flight to new orleans. i am worried since i am high risk and have medicines to take.
