21 years old and would like a career in the tourist industry?
I'm 21 years old and when I was at college (16-18) I did a Diploma in Computing, in the end I didn't enjoy it and although I completed the course I realised I did not want to go into a career of computing. I was bought up in the tourist industry as my mum ran a Bed and Breakfast in a popular tourist destination (we lived in the Bed and Breakfast from when I was born until I was ten years old), I've worked in a pub, I currently work in a supermarket (shop floor level, don't want to work in a supermarket forever).
I volunteer at a local heritage railway and have done for two years, I LOVE IT and wish it was paid rather than voluntary. I work as a ticket inspector on the train (with a bit of platform duty thrown in there) and volunteering there really made me decide what I want to do as a career. I've also volunteered at other places (offices, social care work) to get all sorts of different experience and have learnt an awful lot from my various places of volunteering.
The one thing I'm missing is a Travel and Tourism Diploma which I have recently looked at local colleges but they either don't do a course I can do which fits round my supermarket job or they only want people who are under 18.
All my GCSE's are at Grade C or above (expect Science which was a D). If I apply for jobs in the tourist industry do I have enough to get in without a Diploma in tourism?

1 AnswerOther - Politics & Government9 years agoPeople say to get anywhere in life you need a degree, this isn't true, is it?
I am twenty one years old, work at a supermarket but don't want to spend my life working there (although it will do for now). I volunteer a lot at a big heritage railway doing a whole variety of duties and have gained lots of experience in different aspects of the railway. My GCSE results were all B's and C's (apart from Science which was a D). I have also in the last three years volunteers in two different office settings to gain experience.
Someone made this comment this is all irrelevant because I didn't go uni and get a degree and that you need a degree to get anywhere in life. Is this true?

1 AnswerSingles & Dating9 years agoShould I move out earlier and rent or stay at home and wait until I can afford a mortgage?
Last year I inherited a reasonable amount of money and have worked out that if I save for a few years I will have a VERY good deposit for a flat/terrace house. I am currently 20. A lot of people seem to believe that you should have moved out before 25. Should I move out before 25 and rent or should I keep living at home with my mum, build up a bigger deposit for a mortgage and move out after 25? (I'm thinking between 25 and 30?)
I'm not a layabout and I do an awful lot of the housework.
What are your opinions

5 AnswersPolitics9 years agoI know it's two months away but what can I do for New Year this year?
I'm a 20 year old man who is single and has hardly any family left. This has been the case for 18 months now. I spent last New Year with the remaining family I have (which was really boring). All my friends have girlfriends or family they'll be spending New Year with.
What can I do this New Year that's interesting? Do any clubs exist at new year for people like myself? Don't want to spent this New Year feeling bored at home and on my own.
3 AnswersOther - Holidays10 years agoWhy do women old enough to be my mum fancy me, when no one my own age does?
I'm a 20 year old male. Lots of women in their late 30, 40s and even 50s seem to fancy me but no one my own age seems to, why may this be? I've been told I look like Neil Diamond did in his 20s.

My dog is a 6 year old jack russell so still youngish for a jack russell. We are looking after my cousins dog while she's on holiday but since she's come to our house my dog has acted all sad. He's still eating and drinking and doesn't seem to be having trouble swallowing his food but he's acting a little more weaker (can't jump as high).
Do you trhink anything else could be wrong with him?

9 AnswersEnglish Football (Soccer)10 years agoWhy do people seem to say the Labour Party are fantastic?
When they have never led us out of recession and always into one. They ran our country so badly the last 13 years and now people are moaning about Nick Clegg and the Tories making cuts.
At least the Conservatives and the Liberal Democrats have the decency to try and cut the deficit which Labour never intended on doing.
As you can tell I completely despise the Labour Party, Milliband, Balls, Harmen, Yvette Cooper, a dour boring cabinet who only whinge about the fact the coalition is cleaning up their mess.
I don't know how they expect to get back in power.
