Male, student atheist. I live in Bethel, Connecticut which borders both Danbury, Connecticut and Redding Connecticut. Among other things, Danbury is famous for the letter the Danbury Baptist Association received from Thomas Jefferson, from which the famous idea of "separation of church and state" came from. Redding is famous for being the birthplace of Joel Barlow who was an American diplomat who authored the very first American treaty with a foreign country, the Treaty of Tripoli. A line from the Treaty of Tripoli makes it very clear that America is not a religious country: "As the Government of the United States of America is not, in any sense, founded on the Christian religion..." I feel very lucky to be living in a place that has been so important to religious freedom in America.
