Can someone help me understand this very easy algebra problem?
Which of the following is the equation for the line that has a slope equal to 3/4 and passes through the point (4, -2)
I believe the answer is 3x-4y=20 (only answer with a slope of 3/4), but why is this? This equation has an x intercept at (20/3, 9) and a y intercept at (0, -5) How does it pass through (4, -2)?

First off, assume that state 1 is Chinese and that state 2 is Greek, and state 3 is Italian.
A student never eats the same kind of food for 2 consecutive weeks. If she eats at a Chinese restaurant one week, then she is equally likely to have Greek as Italian food the next week. If she eats at a Greek restaurant one week, then she is four times as likely to have Chinese as Italian food the next week. If she eats at an Italian restaurant one week, then she is twice as likely to have Chinese as Greek food the next week.

If I am able to complete 200 words on my paper in 15 minutes, how many words will I get in an hour if my rate of my progress remains constant?
Intuitively, I know that the answer is 800, but I am trying to get my brain to think differently. What would be the equation for this scenario?

4x+5y+12z=-6
11x+14y+34z=-17
I have been working on this for hours now. My professor said all you need to do is put it in the form of the identity matrix, but that seems incorrect
2 AnswersMathematics2 years agoHow do you write the equation of this line?
I m old enough that I should know how to do this, but I hate algebra.
Assume that the line passes through the point (−1,−4) and is parallel to the line through the points ( −4,0) and (5,−4).
Find the equation of this line in slope intercept form.

At a carnival game a bucket contains an assortment of 20 balls. There are 15 red, 4 silver, and 1 gold ball in the bucket. You pay 1 dollar to play the game, and then draw a single ball from the bucket. If you draw a red ball then the carnival pays you nothing; if you draw a silver ball then the carnival refunds your dollar; and if you draw the gold ball, the carnival owner pays you 11 dollars. What is your expected profit for this game?

Assume that a box contains 3 defective widgets and 16 acceptable widgets. There are 4 inspectors, each of whom selects a widget from the box at random, inspects it, and then replaces it in the box. Each inspector makes his or her inspection at a different time.
What is the probability that at least one inspector will find a defective widget?

1 AnswerMathematics2 years agoWhat is the probability that the second ball is blue given that at least one of the balls is blue?
The question is telling me that I have 7 red balls and 6 blue balls from which randomly to select two without replacement. I know right off the bat that I'm working with Pr[second ball is blue|at least one of the balls is blue], but I am having trouble diagramming it. I know I'm working with P(A∩B)/P(B), but I am not sure what to calculate to get those variables

Assume that the business makes a profit with probability 0.5 in the first year. For each year thereafter, the business makes a profit with probability 0.6 if it made a profit in the previous year, and with probability 0.2 if it did not make a profit in the previous year.
What is the probability that the business makes a profit in exactly two of its first three years?
I tried making a tree diagram to help me solve this, but I am way off.
