My portable hard drive was working in my computer, and i took it out, then hours later tried to plug it in in and it gave the error "usb device not recognized". It now does this in both computers that it used to work on. Another one of the same portable hard drives still works in the usb ports, so the ports are still working. Is there any way to recover the contents of this device or to fix this?

I injured my rotator cuff about 5 years ago playing hockey when i got hit, and when I put my arm in certain positions it still acts up and really hurts and I recently hurt it again and it is sore. Is there anything I can do to prevent this?
