My disc drive does not work after booting up my computer until I eject and re-insert the disc drawer. Why?
I've had this problem with my computer since I first got it, as far as I can remember. Whenever I attempt to run a disc in the drive that was already in during boot-up, whatever application attempting to access the drive will get stuck trying to do so. No error pops up informing me that the drive is empty or malfunctioning or anything, it just never manages to run anything.
I should add also that the drive and even the disc in question is recognised, i.e. I have a DVD in the drive and start up the computer, when I go to Windows Explorer the title of the DVD is displayed next to DVD RW Drive (D:), only the DVD will not play, regardless of which program I use (VLC, Windows Media Player, etc.)
However, if I attempt to do the same thing after ejecting the drawer and re-inserting it, it works just fine. I have to do this before attempting to run it; if the first thing I do after booting up the computer is attempt to run the disc, it won't work until I reset the computer, or, as I found, logging off the current user and back in again also solves the problem.
My disc drive is the following: TSSTcorp CDDVDW SH-222AB ATA Device
And I am running Windows 7 Home Premium.
Any info I've left out here will be happily provided on request.
