  • Problems downloading iOS 3.1.1 in iTunes.?

I'm updating my 1st gen. iPod Touch by trying to install iOS 3.1.1. I went to the iTunes Store (via iTunes program) and followed the links for updating my iPod, paid the charge and agreed the terms and conditions and then it started to download in the 'downloads' section of iTunes. However straight away it said 'The was a problem downloading iOS 3.1.1 - please check your network connection and try again' My network connection (which i presume is my internet connection) is fine and i have tried 'resuming' the download with the same result. I have iTunes version 10.5.1.42. Any help would be great! :)

  • Do you reckon my photographs are good enough to sell?

I realise that this is like one of those annoying questions from 13 year old girls wanting you to read their poems, but i have genuinely been thinking of selling some of my photography for a couple of years now. Some people who have seen them have suggested i should at least try to, so any feedback would be much appreciated. I know i wont be able to sell it for much as a professional would be able to, but a bit of extra cash in the pocket would be nice. :)

http://500px.com/XYZXY - It is in order of 'most recently added', so some of what i would say are the better ones are further back.

  • Constant slow internet, but with 100mb/s connection?

I am a uni student a few miles from Windsor, and I get a 100mb/s connection (works out at 75 on online speed tests) but it takes ages to load pages in my browser. I use Safari (latest version/update) and my laptop is only a few weeks old. At home, Lincolnshire, I only received 6mb/s but with the same browser and laptop loading pages was almost instant, or at least much, much faster. I have tried using Internet Explorer, and tried the wireless as well as 'fixed line' connections here, but the problem persists. It will typically take around 7,8,9,10 seconds, and sometimes up to 20 to load a page, even what seems like the 'smallest' of pages. Any ideas? :)

  • Where to find a list of 'Sovereign Borrowing Rates'?

Im looking for a website that has a list of all the countries, or a lot of them, and the amount of interest they have to pay on the money that they borrow. A look on Google, surprisingly, has turned up nothing. :)

  • Train air resistance/friction?

When a train is moving, is the majority of the resistance from air or through the wheels/track/bearings etc. I appreciate that the proportions must vary enormously depending on the train and the speed it is traveling at - but are there any rough figures?

  • Problems opening an 8.1mb JPG in MS Paint.?

I downloaded the 'famous' Earthlights image by NASA (the one of the earth at night with all the cities illuminated) but cant open it in Paint. I got the image first from the NASA website as .tif format, and then from Wikipedia in .jpg format. Whenever i try to open in in Paint it says 'This is not a valid bitmap file, or its format cannot be supported', but it's definitely in .jpg format. Paint will open any other .jpg file without trouble. Is the size a problem maybe? Help! :)

  • If a government adopted a type of Socialism that completely worked and improved quality of life?

    Would you support/vote for it?

Whilst I'm not a Socialist, I notice that many people around the world, particularly Americans, will hostilely reject it purely on the grounds that it is 'Socialism' rather than on any real political or economic grounds.

  • 1 in 1,000,000 chance of 3 particularly cold winters in the UK - yet it's happened?

The Met office said back in winter 2008/9 that the cold that we were experiencing was a 1-100 chance. Since then we had a colder winter in 09/10 and now in 10/11 it is even colder. This would make it 1 in a million chance. Surely this cant be true? But then again it has said to have been the coldest December for 100 years so far, so that would fit in nicely with the odds.

  • List of worldwide political parties on the left-right spectrum?

I'm looking for a list of various political parties, the more the better, from around the world and their placement on a homogenous left-right spectrum, not just on the spectrum of their respective countries. :)

  • Why do some Americans use Obama's middle name (Hussein) so much?

I mean it's a ******* middle name! So what?! Do they actually think it makes a difference? Or even worse do they actually think he's Muslim? How can some people be so retarded and ignorant?

  • 140 Gw North Sea Windfarm?!?!?

    http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/business-11909048

This article about the new North Sea Grid talks about a "140 Gigawatt offshore windfarm currently being planned in the North Sea". WHAT? that's massive! the biggest i've seen so far is the planned 9 Gw Dogger Bank.

The article again mentions: "The new grid would be used to connect European grids to a large offshore windfarm currently in planning for the North Sea."

Is this true and are there any links for it? :)

  • Name of the movement in present UK housing architecture?

This last decade or so there seems to have been a notable movement towards building houses in much more traditional styles, mostly resembling Victorian houses. Is there any name for this and any useful links about it? :)

  • How can free-will exist if you do not hold a super-natural point of view?

If one believes in science and thus that all 'events' either happen due to a previous event (cause and effect) or at random, then how can free-will and decisions/choices fit into this seeing as all the brain is is atoms and energy etc.

  • What was the short term (20 yrs) significance of the Berlin Blockade/Airlift for America as a 'global power'?

So what events happened due in part to the Berlin Blockade that led, or helped lead to America becoming a 'global power' (not superpower!) in the 20 years that followed.

  • What happened to the HDI values? (Wikipedia List)?

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_countries_by_...

The values seem to have changed quite a lot? It seems that they have been 'devalued' in the same way a currency would be, but also there seem to be some anomalies such as Israel and Andorra....any explanation?
