What works should I put on my first organ recital program?
I've been playing pipe organ for about a year and a half now and I love it! I have gotten quite a bit better since I began (I haven't had any keyboard lessons in my life: I was a clarinet major in college), and I'd like to put on a recital if I can. I've recently reached what I consider the intermediate level of organ playing: I can play Boellman's "Choral/Introduction" from "Suite Gothique," several hymns including "For All the Saints," (SINE NOMINE), and "For the Beauty of the Earth" (DIX), and I can play several works from L'Organiste, my favorite of which is "Vieux Noel" (the not 6/8 version). That isn't everything I can play, but it gives an idea of where my abilities are right now. I have a fifth edition Gleason Book that I've been learning from, and I've been working on the Bach Fugue in G Minor and the Canzona in D Minor. I am also quite good at playing piano music on the organ, virtually at sight, but my experience with that has been limited to hymn arrangements that were clearly written for the piano (lots of arpeggios in the bass line, etc). What should I put on my recital program, aiming for about a half hour to forty-five minutes?
2 AnswersClassical8 years agoGetting a teaching job with poor grades?
My transcripts aren't exactly what you'd call pristine. I have six Fs, a D, and a few Cs. My overall GPA (from college) was 2.72. These were mainly the product of trouble getting homework done, a problem I have since corrected. I have the feeling that my grades are keeping me from getting a teaching job, and that administrators are just bringing me in to fill an interview schedule or appease the union rules. I am certified in Instrumental Music Education and my goal is to get a career in that field, but I'm having a very difficult time doing so. I've had several interviews for these types of positions, but none of them have panned out. I'm not really limiting myself to one area, but I would like to stay in my own state: IN. I have experience in my field as a clarinet sectional instructor at a local high school, but I don't know if that's enough to make up for the poor grades. What can I do to make my grades less of a factor, and prove to my potential employers that I have corrected the issues involved? Going back to school is out of the question at this point, because I can't afford it.
6 AnswersTeaching1 decade agoWhat should I do when the truth isn't good?
Specifically, I am asking this question because I feel like the truth about me has doomed me to fail in my life's endeavors. I know that the prevailing answer will be to tell the truth anyway, but my argument is that doing so will doom me to the cycle of failures and dead ends that I am already experiencing. I have always had a hard time with finding "the right person," or "the right place," or "the right job." I have never been able to accept the idea that it will "just happen" or that God "has a plan," because I've seen too many people pass me up or I have been defeated too many times when I have put in so much effort to achieve the goal. I feel like the truth is tearing my life apart, yet at the same time, I don't want to live a lie. I just don't believe that the truth about who I am (or at least who I think I am) is acceptable to anyone else. I don't believe that "the right job" or anything like that even exists for me. I feel so much like God's tool: serving in some way or another, but not benefitting from it at anytime. I've hoped and dreamed and prayed for so long, but I have never prevailed. In fact, I've watched people go right on from me and find the love of their lives. I've also been supplanted by colleagues for jobs I thought for sure I would get. When is it my turn? When will the truth finally set me free?

I am advancing in my study of the Polish language and I would like to know if I am coming along okay. Here's a sentence that I tried to put together. It should say, "That Slovak girl is pretty. I think her name is Jana." Here's what I translated it as: "To Słowenka jest ładna. Myślę że się imie Jana." How'd I do?

3 AnswersTeaching1 decade agoHow to use się in Polish?
I'm studying Polish right now and I'm a little confused about the use of się. As I understand it, się is used to form reflexive verbs such as ubierać się. If I wanted to say "I am wearing a shirt." would I say "Ubieram się koszula?" Or would it be "Się ubieram koszula?" Not really sure how to use this in conjunction with conjugations.

I own a 1991 Toyota Camry and recently the "lights" light has illuminated and my left turn signal blinks very rapidly when activated. The right signal works just fine and no other systems seem to be affected. What could be wrong and will this cause my car to die?
2 AnswersMaintenance & Repairs1 decade agoWhat is it about goalkeepers?
I am a goalkeeper, and I just had a little question. Does size really matter as a GK? Most of the pros that I see are 6 ft. 2 in. and 220 lbs, but I'm 5 ft 10 in and 175 lbs. and also a GK, and pretty good at it, too. Why do the coaches/managers pick keepers that are huge versus those that may have comparable skills, but are just not as tall?

I'm looking for anyone with information about the Clerget family that has heavy roots in Bourgogne. I believe there is a winemaker there by the name of Raoul Clerget and the village of Bard-les-Pesmes has a few families bearing the name, and the city of Pesmes has over forty families registered with that name.

I am learning Polish right now, and I can't seem to find any good online resources for verbs and their conjugations. The ones I am really looking for are the most useful ones, too! Specifically, it would help me if someone would give me the infinitive for the following verbs:
to speak
to say
to live
to go (I know it's irregular)

1 AnswerOther - Internet1 decade agoWho out there knows some Polish?
I've seen a lot of people on here asking about French, Spanish, etc. (Latin languages or Germanic). How bout some Slavic languages? Anybody out there speak Polish or Russian? I'm trying to learn Polish and I was wondering if anyone knows any good sites, books, publications, or other ways of practicing so that I can become fluent. If anybody has any verbs they'd like to give me, they would be appreciated as well.
3 AnswersLanguages1 decade agoHow far can an officer follow me in traffic?
I was driving home from work one night (about 1100) from one Indiana town to another. The total time this officer was following me was around a half an hour. I didn't do anything illegal and the officer never pulled me over. However, there was a town in between us that had plenty of gas stations and other lighted areas that he could safely pull me over in. Was he hoping that I would do something stupid, or was he just hoping that he would catch me speeding or something?

I am a soccer player, but I have a great dilemma. I was a goalkeeper until high school, when my coach removed me from the position and placed me as a forward. I also played as a forward during my travelling days. I enjoy both, but I can compete with better players as a goalkeeper. Which one am I?
