cure for HIV/AIDS?
I once watched a documentary on twin boys, one of which was born with bubble boy syndrome(no immune system). I believe the couple had a 3rd child of which stem cells were taken from the cord blood. The twin who was born with bubble boy syndrome was then infused with the umbilical cord blood and grew an immune system.
Why can't a person who has HIV have their immune system killed off totally (via perhaps raidation or chemo) and then be infused to grow a new immune system? Can anyone in the medical profession tell me why this theory doesn't or wouldn't work?
