Hi, I ve had my betta for about a month and a half now, and he has always been super active and would swim to the top of the tank for food. I recently (about a week ago) bought a new 3 gallon tank for him and at first he loved it! But now all he is doing is laying at the bottom of his tank by his plants, he won t eat and he generally isn t moving unless he moves to another plant. When he does swim it doesn t look like there is anything wrong with him, but he won t swim for more than a couple of seconds. I don t notice anything physically different about him, though.

In my tank (3 gallons):

-Heater (water is usually at 77 degrees)

-Water filter

-Silk plants

-Aquarium safe rocks

Due to the new tank he has recently been changed into almost brand new water, but I use the correct amount of water conditioner and normally he has no issue during water changes.

His symptoms have only been going on for about 2 days.

I checked the ph of the water and the strips said that the water has a high ph, and I tried using ph corrector tablets (didn t work) and a lot of the research that I have done says that the fish will adapt to whatever ph level in the tank and it is safer not to mess with it.

I also checked for high ammonia amounts and that was normal.

Any advice would be much appreciated.

I am enrolled in Howard University in Washington D.C. in the fall, and while I am in love with the school and everything it has to offer, I am still a little concerned that I am not going to fit in. I am 16 and I just wanted to try it to see how I liked it. I did like it but I am not really craving another. I like the idea of smoking though, sitting in my car with the window open smoking. I know that it is a terrible habit though.

I am trying to make a list of negatives about smoking so if I ever want another one I can just repeat these in my mind
