  • My four year old car needs a new engine - $6,400 - what should I do?

Looking for some advice. I have a 2005 car with 70,000 miles. It has run great up to this point, but now it needs a new engine. It seems to me that a four year old engine shouldn't fail, but it's out of warranty, and neither the dealer, nor the manufacturer will help. I owe about what the car would be worth if it were running (approximately $8,000) so I can't just scrap it. I really can't afford the $6K either. I'm tempted to just leave it parked in front of the dealer with a white flag hanging off of it, and stop making payments, but then my credit would be ruined. I could borrow the $6K, but then I would owe $14 K on an $8K car. Any ideas?
