  • Should I buy this RX8 or try to keep my s10 running?

Recently, my 2001 2.2L s10 scared the crap out of me by randomly cutting out while I driving to a friend's house. All the symptoms pointed to the fuel pump going out, but I was told by the mechanic it was just a blown fuse caused by loose wires sitting on the exhaust manifold.

However, while waiting for the word on my truck (convinced it was my almost-new fuel pump gone bad already), I had already contacted my bank and started shopping for a new car. I found a 2004 Mazda RX8 for $7500 with 46k miles and a clean carfax. I've already test driven the RX8 and fell in love with the stark differences in comfort and power between the vehicles.

So now, I'm left with the decision to go ahead and pick up the RX8 (knowing that I've wanted one for about 2 years now and already had non-emergency plans to get one this coming summer), which would leave me on a limited budget until I start my internship in June, or hope that my truck keeps running.

Why my truck scares me: at 208,000 miles, I'm on my third engine (granted, it's only 1 year old so far and still has 2 years on its warranty... I also got a new OEM fuel pump 2 years ago, alternator is less than a year old), I have a hole in the radiator, since my last ("professional") oil change there's been a drip from the plug, I have serious problems with steering alignment that seems to have resulted from an accident that occurred before I got the vehicle (at 76,000 miles) that has me turning the steering wheel about 30 degrees to the right to go in a straight line, paint and clear coat have almost completely vanished from front left fender, no arm rest on driver's door (a door which I cannot keep a top hinge pin in to save my life), no seat adjustment levers on driver's side, a check engine light that never goes away, and it needs a new front bumper.

Why this isn't as clear cut decision as it seems: I am a college student with a part time job living on a limited budget. A new car would knock about $30 a week off of my weekly allotment. I also have a motorcycle (still paying notes on) that I use most of the time to go to work and class. 4 wheels are mostly for below-zero mornings and trips home (every other weekend). I'm also not selling the truck, unless I'm in a very tight situation; my late father bought it for me and it holds a lot of memories and I've always dreamed of restoring it one day.

Fair warning: I do not want to hear a history lesson about the reliability of an RX8. I'm aware of it and I have accepted it. I would also rather keep putting money into my truck than buy a car that I'm not in love with.

I've tried to be honest, and I know this will seem like a clear cut decision to some. But I will still appreciate your advice.

  • Should I get a motorcycle or Miata?

In August, I'll be getting a new vehicle and I'm trying to decide between a Honda CBR250r and a Gen 1 Mazda Miata ('97 or older) (though this will mostly depend on my cosigner's will, I decided I'd get outside input anyways.)

I'm a college student who needs to get another vehicle to ease the stress on my 200k+ pickup truck (on its 3rd engine and with severe alignment problems). I have about a 10 mile daily commute, but i also have a 200 mile commute to my hometown about twice a month. I'm not really burdened by the space and weather issues due to this being my second vehicle.

With my financial situation, the math comes out to:

    Motorcycle (0-300 miles): $700 deposit, $100 a month payment/insurance, 60-70 mpg

    Miata (100k-150k miles): $1000-$1200 deposit, $200 a month payment/insurance, ~25 mpg

Also, I don't need preaching on not financing such a small purchase. I am using this as a safe method to establish my credit. Thank you for your time.

  • Is it acceptable for a visitor to a mosque to wear facial jewelry?

I'm going on a school trip to a mosque, but our instructor failed to mention piercings in the "what to wear or not wear" speech. Can I wear my labret and earrings? (I'm a male)

  • New or used motorcycle as first?

I'm going to be getting my first motorcycle in 2 months and I'm torn between a 2013 ($4000, relatively cheap insurance) and a used one (cheaper initial price and insurance), bearing that I may drop it while learning. I sat on the brand new one and it felt great, like it was form fitted, so I'm in love, but I'm worried about tearing off lights (not really scratches).

  • Is the 2007 Mazda RX-8 more reliable than previous models?

I've done a lot of research on the rx8 and have decided to get one. I was curious if the 2007 model had improved the engine problems in the earlier models (I base this off of Edmunds reliability rating.)

  • Mitsubishi Eclipse GT, Ford Mustang, or Mazda Rx8?

I'm going to be purchasing a used car in a few months and I just wanted to get some opinions on my options. I've actually fallen in love with the looks and interior of the 2004-2005 Rx8 and it's unique engine and it falls within my price range, but I'm a bit scared of the reliability of the engine (I plan for my new car to last between 3-5 years.) My second choice is a 2006 Mitsubishi Eclipse GT (which seems to go for a bargain price) and the better gas mileage and reportedly better reliability is attractive, however, I don't find it as attractive and interesting. My third option is the V6 Mustang (2005-2007), which I like the raw American muscle looks... but I honestly don't want an American muscle car with a V6. Just for shits and giggles, we can include a 96-98 V8 Firebird (my favorite car when I was growing up... well, second favorite. Dodge Viper still has my heart.)

  • Should I get a Toyota Celica or fix my S10?

I drive around 500 miles a week and my 2001 s10 (189,000 miles) is going to need major repair (greater than $1000.) I'm considering getting a used car instead of repairing the s10 and have come across a 2000 Toyota Celica (164k miles, from dealer, $4750 asking price).

  • What is this video game? (horror, mystery)?

You were in a city, I wanna say it was first person. There seemed to be something about a family or loved ones in peril (hostages?). There was blackness all around that was directly related to your character and the evil of the city. Your character let it in? (not Prototype, not a zombie game). I played it as a demo on xbox 360. The "bad guys" came out of the darkness and there were fences between the alley you were going down and the street on the outside. The darkness would attack cops and once they attacked a person in front of you who dropped a pipe which was your first weapon. There was a lake mentioned(not alan wake)? And a crime/drama/mystery back story? It was a sequel or a prequel. Thank you for any help.

  • What's this movie (Alaska brother and sister)?

It seems like it took place in Alaska and a boy and girl's father went missing and they go to find him. I remember a plane making deliveries (toilet paper?) to a small isolated Alaskan town. They set off in a Kayak. There's a bear in the movie that helps the brother and sister out. The father's airplane is stuck on the side of a cliff and he has their picture and they find him and the bear helps bring him up.

  • Should I get an Blu Ray Player or a DVD UpConverter?

I have an Xbox 360 running HDMI on a 32" 720p tv. Will a DVD Up-converter do a better job? Or should i just wait to get a Blu Ray Player? Or, on my tv, is it even worth it to get a blu ray payer?

  • Is the dialect in Wuthering Heights true to the setting of the novel?

The dialogue in the novel seems a bit too intricate, despite the time and location. Perhaps I'm overreading, but to speak casually with such a complicated vocabulary seems a little far fetched.
