  • Republicans, please answer: how can you justify the recent voter registration laws?

all of which were passed in swing states with Republican and only Republican controlled legislatures?

can we at least agree that this is a pretty obvious attempt to screen out low income voters, all assertions of morality aside?

  • Does everyone understand that that "obama care" won't cost YOU, personally, anything if you have insurance?

The tax hikes called for in the healthcare reform bill will be imposed on only these entities:

    Insurance companies,

Employers who do not provide the option for insurance to their employees

Manufacturers and importers of BRAND NAME medications (not generics)

    Tanning services

corporations with assets of over $1 Billion

And people who choose not to pay for some form of healthcare insurance will have to pay an exemption tax based on their income level. (currently, only 2% of the U.S. population is uninsured)

IN NO WAY DOES THE BILL CALL FOR ANY TAX HIKES ON ANY INDIVIDAL WHO ALREADY HAS HEALTH INSURANCE

Refer to this article from the tax foundation about the tax increases called for in the bill:

    http://www.taxfoundation.org/news/show/26037.html

So, now that we know the facts, why all the fuss Republicans?

  • How and why do a companies quarterly earnings report effect stock price?(?

I know about supply and demand and how that dictates stock price, yada yada.

But say, hypothetically, the American government did pass a 4% tax increase on the upper tax bracket. Could this tax increase possibly have an effect on the stock price of large corporations?

And correct me if i am wrong in assuming that a 4% tax increase for say, a 1 billion dollar company, would decrease their quarterly profit by *roughly* ten million dollars?

I only ask this because i am not completely familiar with the intricacies of business, government, shareholder interaction. *But* In theory, could a tax hike on the top tax bracket initiate a rapid sell-off?

    Thanks in advance

  • Can we all agree that correct government policy is neither wholly Democratic nor wholly Republican?

Lets be realistic, neither party is perfect. Why is it, then, that we have such a hard time finding common ground?

Assuming that not everyone on here holds the facist belief that their party is infallible, can we possibly have a productive political discussion?

When you answer, give it a shot, maybe try and mention some things your opposing party has right and some things your party has right. It sounds like a grade school homework assignment, I know. However (and I say this at the risk of sounding melodramatic) unless we can agree to take a step back and find common ground somewhere - anywhere - our time would be better spent learning how to use a pair of chopsticks.

Cut out the charged language, catchphrase rhetoric, and otherwise childish chest thumping. Instead, use that squishy thing in your head to think critically.

Blow it out your *** if you find this too challenging.

  • How can any Patriot refuse to pay an extra 4% in taxes to help their country recover from a global recession?

Self-interest is only natural, every man reserves the right to do what they please with what they earn.

Issues of morality aside, lets call a spade a spade and all agree that the Republican party is anything but a party of selfless patriots.

  • Republicans, can you go a month without watching Fox News?

Can you Democrats go a month without watching MSNBC?

Please God, try it. Use that squishy thing in your head to do a bit of research and create your own opinions, don't rely on the canned phrases and name calling which FOX, MSNBC, and CNN are more than willing to spoon feed you.

As long as you rely on FOX or MSNBC as a primary source of political knowledge, your input in these political debates is, at best, laughable.

So can you cut cable news cold turkey?

    If so, will you?

  • Republicans, why not have a small government with big regulations?

What would you say if someone proposed a completely privately run infrastructure: law enforcement, streets and san, postal service, education, etc. which was subject to strictly enforced federal regulations for operation.

This would greatly decrease the number of paid government employees which increasing government influence in making sure businesses do no operate recklessly or exploit consumers.

Would most Republicans agree with a government based *loosely* on complete privatization and strict regulation thereof?

    Just thinking out loud.

  • When did people forget that a true patriot cares for his country and countrymen alike?

To those on the right, to whom this question was directed, I think your passion for our country is one of, if not THE greatest strength of our country. Don't let yourself be used because of it, remember that a true patriot cares as much for his countrymen as he does for his country. Your leaders have begun to talk the talk of its base, but they no longer walk the same walk. They have pushed oligarchic ideals upon you and called it America.

I am a Republican at heart, but I vote Democratic because we CANNOT have a government which insists on rolling back federal market regulations. The government has no place socializing industry(i.e. public health care option), but it must have a strong presence in the regulation of business practices and standards. We do not vote for corporate execs, as citizens we cannot hold them accountable for the actions they take. We DO however, vote for politicians; politicians whose sole purpose is not to hand over their power to big businesses.

Your fathers, grandfathers, brothers, sons and daughters fought and died for the right to have a voice in public policy, the right to hold its leaders responsible for not pursuing a course of action which benefits the many instead of the few. Please, please, do not let slippery men with vested interests manipulate your proud voice into one which loudly supports its own silencing.

I think, I hope, the Republican base is still full of well intentioned patriots who would take a bullet for their country, who would see their taxes raised for the benefit of their nation, and who would fight tooth and nail to preserve the voice their forefathers died for. I am left wondering how a party of patriots have been duped into supporting politicians who are anything but.

  • Is it safe to assume that anyone participating in yahoo answers right now?

is either a college or grad student, unemployed, or slacking off at work?

Because I hear a lot of people from the right bashing the "unproductive" members of society who don't work hard for their money.

Oh Really? What exactly are you doing on yahoo answers at 1030 A.M. on a workday?

Not working hard. That's for damn sure.

  • Tell me Republicans, where exactly are the jobs the Bush tax cuts were supposed to create?

Supply side economics only works if you apply the HIGHEST tax cuts to the GREATEST number of people, therefore increasing the buying power of the MOST amount of people. The Bush tax cuts were passed with the promise of creating jobs and growing our economy, except they gave the greatest cuts to the least number of people; i.e. filthy rich.

Since the tax cuts were enacted, the employment rate has steadily decreased in America.

So where, oh where are these jobs the "job creators" were supposed to create?

  • does anyone else feel like everyone is talking but nobody is listening in the Politics section?

The questions and answers from both sides in this answers section seem like alot of ill-informed lip service; nothing is accomplished, nothing is gained. Most people just come here to regurgitate the bias crap they heard on MSNBC or FOX, and its getting old.

  • Do you think Dems and Republicans will ever grow up and accept that neither of their doctrines are infallible?

Or will we proceed under the assumption that the other half of our country are brain-dead half-wits, making us a nation united by only our shared half-wit self righteousness?

  • why don't we create a government mandated work schedule for people on welfare?

That or a minimum job application quota per month to receive welfare. Would Republicans agree to tax hikes for the obscenely wealthy if they knew it was going into a system which cracked down heavily on freeloaders? I just think its one of those situations where the Republicans are right in not wanting a welfare state, but the Democrats are also right in wanting a state with greater distribution of wealth.

  • Doesn't supporting big business over big government just remove power from the hands of the people?

We don't vote for CEO's or big corporation execs, so why deregulate the market and give them a greater seat of power in our country?

  • Are there more Democrats or Republicans who participate in the Politics section?

Just curious, simply state whether you are a Democrat, Republican, or Independent.

    Thanks
