I was laid off after 20 years in the construction industry. My wife is on permanent disability and had a recent sugery that was botched and left her permanently in a wheelchair, unable to walk, in constant pain and pretty much bedridden. Our savings account is running out fast and the COBRA medical payments are killing us. I spend so much time taking care of my wife that I haven't been able to retrain in a different field- construction is dead in the Chicago area where we live. We have no children or extended family to move in with in the area. We are both in our late 40's. Our home is paid off but the medical, utilities, and property taxes especially are killing us. Our credit rating is excellent but soon will begin to fall. Unemployment is not paying the bills. Any thoughts on how to keep afloat? Thank you.

My 91 mazda w/ 170k miles just had the leaky valve cover gaskets replaced, a tune up (first mechanic)and an oil change 6 weeks before that (by a second mechanic). the car just made this nasty noise on the highway and turns out the crankcase is bone dry. an hour later after filling up the crankcase, another different nasty sound happened (sounded like something dropped in the the engine). engine oil light came on and it died and coasted to the side of the road. first mechanic says the oil gushed out a rotted rubber seal and was not related to his gasket replacement or tune up work. no drips or burning smells prior to the car being worked on just leaky gaskets. now i might have a seized engine.

diagnosis? pvc valve related? first mechanic at fault? thank you.

I had the valve cover gasket kit replacement done by a mechanic on my 91 Mazda 929. Now 2 weeks later my engine seized with no oil in it. There was a full crankcase when the mechanic got the car. He's claiming it's a freak occurence and that he had nothing to do with it. The car has never leaked a drop of oil and I've never had to top it off. Does the kit replacement have anything to do with oil disappearing? I can't prove that he caused the engine to seize but I'd like to be able to. Can there be a mechanical connection between what he did and what went wrong? The car was running rough after he "fixed" it.

A family friend attorney referred me to a medical malpractice law office. How much eventually would my attorney friend expect to receive from a malpractice settlement? Flat rate? A percentage of the 1/3 contigency? Thanks.
