  • How to find the Enthalpy of Calcium in this reaction?

    okay so in my reaction the specific heat is

    1015.25 J.

    The balanced equation is

    Ca(s)+2H2O(l)->Ca(OH)2+H2

    and the net ionic equation is

    Ca+2 + 2H+ +2OH- --> Ca(OH)2+ 2H+

    Ca+2 + 2OH- -->Ca(OH)2

    What is the number of moles of calcium used in the reaction?

    and

    What is the number of joules of heat evolved per mole of calcium?

  • Chem Ideal Gas Question. What percentage of potassium chlorate was contained in the 2.05g of mixture?

    A 2.05 g mixture of potassium chlorate and potassium chloride, upon heating, liberated 425 ml of oxygen. This was collected over water at 21 degrees Celsius and 745 mmHg total pressure. What percentage of pure potassium chlorate was contained in the 2.05 g of mixture. Base your calcualtions on the mole relationships.

    This is what I did.

    First I did PV=nRT and looked for n

    P=(235mmHg/760mmHg)=.98 atm

    T=294.15K

    V=.425L

    R=8.314

    (.98atm)(.425L)

    when i do the question i get n=.001703x2=.003406 for just O

    then .0003406x(1mol KClO3/3molO)x(122.55g/1molKClO3)=.139g

    then (.139g/2.05g)x100%=.678%

    someone told me it was 68%...am I doing this wrong?

  • What percent of this compound is iron?

    a 1.50 g sample of iron containing compound was dissolved in 100.0 ml of solution. A 2.00 ml portion of this solution was placed in a 100 ml volumetric flask and diluted to the mark with deionized water. The iron concentration of this dilute solution was determined to be 1.12x10^-3 M. What percent of this compound is iron?

    Can you help me get the answer and explain it?

    this is how I got an answer...but it cant be right.

    i converted the 1.5g of the sample into moles..which was .02685...

    then did M=moles/volume and got (.2685../.002L)=13.429M

    then i did this to get the percent (1.12x10^-3 / 13.429 )x100=.0083

    this is not right...

  • (A) Write the balanced moleucar and net equations for NaOH by KHP?

    (A) I got this:

    KHC8H4O4 M+ NaOH-->KNaC8H4O4 + H2O

    KaOH <---> Na++KP-+H2O

    (the Wt of KHP is 204.23)**

    (B)If 2.8 g of KHP is dissolved in water and titrated with 40 ml of NaOH to the phenolphthalein endpoint...What is the molarity of NaOH??

    i got .343 M

    is this right???

    (C) This is now standardized solution of NaOH is used to find the molecular weight of an acid H2A with has two acid hydrogen. Write the balanced molecular equation for the titration.

    i got H2A +2NaOH--> Na2A + 2 H2O

    is this right????

    (D) If 1.08 g of this acid requires 3.18 ml of NaOH solution for titration to the appropriate endpoint, calculate the molecular weight of the unknown acid H2A.

    ????

    Can you please help me with these questions and show me how to do these questions?

    Thank you!

  • Caculating Enthalpy for this reaction?

    Using standard heats of formation, calculate the standard enthalpy change for the following reaction.

    6CO2(g) + 6H2O(l)C6H12O6 + 6O2(g)

    okay so this is what i have:

    Reactants

    6CO2------> -393.5 kJ/mol

    6H2O ------> -241.8 kJ/mol

    Products

    1 C6H12O6------> ?kJ/mol

    6O2---------------> 0.0 kJ/mol

    is this right? and then after this i have to multipily the coefficants with the delta Hf (the number after the arrwos) and add the products and reactants right?

    i have more questions like this so can you please help me....

  • Suppose you have a box 3cm by 4.5cm by 6cm filled with lump sugar?

    if you dumped the lumps of sugar from the box and arranged them in one rectangular layer, the area would be 54.cm^2. What would be the thickness of one lump of sugar? If you assume that the lumps of sugar are cubic, how many lumps of sugar were in the box?

    so this is what i did

    volume of box=(3x4.5x6)=81cm^3

    area=54cm^2

    thickness=Area/volume=.67cm (thickness)

    then .67 cm=diameter of 1 sugar which made me think

    (.67)^2*(pi)=area of 1 sugar

    .4489*(pi)=1.21cm^2

    so the total area of box/area of 1 sugar==(54/1.41)=38 lumps of sugar

    is this the right answer?? Did I find the thickness the right way?

    Please Help!This is my chem homework

  • given a solution of 5% by volume oleic acid in alcohol:?

    Two drops (1000 drops/cm^3) are placed on a water surface and a continuous, circular film is formed 16 cm in diameter after all the alcohol has evaporated and the oil is distributed evenly on the surface. what would be the thickness of the layer of pure oil?

    okay so this is what i did:

    i found the area which was 201.06cm^2

    the volume by 100 drops/cm^3(2x)---200x.05=10cm^3

    then found thickness buy Area/Volume=20.106

    so is it 201.06 cm thick???

    i just want to know if I did the question the right way.

    Thanks!!(This is chem homework)

  • Write the equation in standard form...?

    so the vertex of the parabola is (-1,2) and the focus is (-1,4)

    i know that it has to be (x-h)^2=(1/4)(P)(y-k)

    and i got up to this (x+1)^2=(1/4)(P)(y-2)

    so is p 2? because the focus is 2 above the vertex??
