ZORKOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO THE MAGICIAN.

  • Australian Football; could it have spread to the US (given the chance?)?

Obviously WWI among other things stunted it but this is an interesting read. I thought of this section as soon as I came across it. In particular I think Lexi might like this one if he's still around.

    http://query.nytimes.com/mem/archive-free/pdf?res=...

You may need to download as a PDF and zoom in but it's worth the effort.

Can't stand this new Y!A set-up by the way! Bring back the old!

  • What just happened?

Can someone pinch me? GWS destroy Sydney in the last quarter to win by 32 points. I'm not sure I believe it yet. I maintain, what just happened?

  • What is the equation for this pattern?

I really should be able to nail down an equation for this sequence, but my mind has completely deserted me regarding how to represent it in equation form. 1, 1.5, 1.75, 1.875, 1.9375, and so onwards. Effectively +0.5, +0.25, +0.125, +0.0625 and so onwards.

Thanks for your help guys. :)

  • Y!A AFL MVP ~ Round 13. Who is your MVP?

Thanks Y!A Aussie Rules section, I'm looking for more nominations for the sections most prestigious award. The votes go from 5 (best player of the round) to 1 (5th best player of the round). The votes are tallied up, averaged out and assorted into a leaderboard - the leaderboard will now REMAIN HIDDEN until the end of the season in order to keep suspense for the revelation of our winner.

At last count, Gary Ablett Jnr, Joel Selwood and Patrick Dangerfield were our 3 leading MVP's ... let's see how much that changes by seasons end!

Now, please enter your votes for round 13!

    My votes -

5 - Brent Moloney - easiest choice for 5 votes, absolutely dragged us into the victory over Geelong and sparked the comeback, clearance work was immense, I'm not sure I've seen a bigger quarter from a Lion in the past few years.

4 - Brad Ebert - similar to Moloney's role in the Port upset over Sydney, but less so. Still an enormous effort

3 - Jarryd Roughead - 5 goals and some stunning marks awards him the three votes.

    2 - Nat Fyfe

    1 - Dustin Martin

    Thanks :)

  • Should Brisbane bring back the traditional Lion for good?

It's a RESOUNDING yes from me. It looks utterly fantastic, the boys were up and about today in an excellent win over the hugely in-form Bombers. It was amazing to watch, and I would have no second thoughts about dropping the 'Paddle Pop Lion' to bring back the 3-peat guernsey..

Is there anyone who disagrees? Genuinely curious, as it seems 99% of the footy public also want the traditional Lion back..

    PS WHAT A WIN!!! :D

  • Can the Suns overcome the Dockers - Sat night footy?

    I really believe they can.

Freo started the season flying, but have hit speedbumps of late - Pavlich out injured, Fyfe out injured, still no Sandi, Kepler Bradley out for the season, Duffield and Zac Clarke with niggles, extremely defensive footy being played...

Meanwhile the Suns just continue on their way up - a bit of luck at the end of their 'Gabba game would see them with 3 wins 2 losses right now - this game reeks of their early season Saints victory and I believe the aspects of everything going right for the Suns and some unlucky circumstances for the Dockers could lead to the Suns rising tonight.

I'm going to go against the odds and tip a 15 point Suns victory tonight. What are your thoughts on the match-up?

  • Y!A AFL MVP ~ Round 1. Who is your MVP?

I may as well take the wheel for the Y!A MVP.

Basically, this is how I'm going to run it - from 5 to 1 you must name your best players from the round that has just gone - I will do this every round, tally the results at the end and announce the Y!A Most Valuable Player.

    Let the voting begin!

    My votes:

    5 - Gary Ablett

    4 - Joel Selwood

    3 - Michael Barlow

    2 - Jobe Watson

    1 - Travis Cloke

  • AFL SuperCoach - do you have what it takes to challenge the best of Y!A?

Yahoo! Answers is heading into another season of our annual SuperCoach season, and due to a lack of interest in filling the final position from any regulars, an open invite is going out to YOU. Yes, you!

Quandary still has this Dave fella to be injected into the league, which means one more place remains.

Answer here to enter your interest, I will then email you - please make sure your email option is ticked so I can get to you! Two coaches have lost their spots already by me not being able to contact them.

    Good luck!

  • Who will become the number one Blue?

With the NAB Cup Grand Final looming, Carlton FC remains skipper-less.

With Malthouse indicating that it will be a member of the leadership group, it is narrowed down to gun mid Marc Murphy, trusty veteran Kade Simpson, acclaimed backline leader Andrew Carrazzo, injury-prone Jarrad Waite and the mature-aged flanker Nick Duigan.

Personally, I can't see Duigan or Waite taking on the mantle, which narrows it down to Murph, Simpson or Carrazzo.

This leads me to three questions for you tonight.

    a) Will the Carlton Football Club captain be announced before Friday night's big game?

    b) Who out of the five aforementioned will take on the job?

    c) Why?

Personally, I think they will wait until after the NAB Cup GF, and then announce Andrew Carrazzo as their leader going into 2013. Mick Malthouse has a history of picking unorthodox captains, generally defenders, in his coaching career (Nick Maxwell and Scott Burns being his most recent examples, also at WCE and Footscray he exhibited this tendency). For this reason I think he will discard Murphy and Simpson and anoint the defensive general Carrazzo to lead the team.

    Your thoughts?

  • Brisbane takes on Collingwood at Etihad: winner earns a place in the Mickey Mouse GF...?

Brisbane welcomes back their co-captains Jonathan Brown and Jed Adcock, as well as a full complement of stars in the likes of Merrett, Patfull, Hanley, McGrath, Leuenberger and Rich all back into the side.

Redden, Maguire, Lester have all been rested whilst Moloney and Rockliff are the A-graders to have played all 3 matches so far. This is the closest to their strongest side Brisbane has had all pre-season, indicating that they are set to take this game seriously.

On Collingwood's side of things, they make an effort to bolster their defence, welcoming back premiership stars Nathan Brown and Tyson Goldsack. Their outs are also highly significant - players the ilk of Swan, Pendlebury, Cloke and Reid are set to watch on.

Brisbane comes into this match with about 6 of their best 22 out, whilst Collingwood have about 7, as both teams look to continue their undefeated run: both have fought off worthy challengers, with Brisbane downing the Hawks and Collingwood defeating the Eagles - who do you think will win this bout and win a spot in the NAB Cup GF?

    Brisbane by 29 :)
