Getting old, so I'm opinionated, crochety and not in a good mood! Ex-military with a low tolerance for bovine fecal matter! There are only 4 ways to do something: the right way, the wrong way, the government's way, and MY way! Guess which one matters? In case you are wondering, yes, there is a right and wrong, good and evil, heaven and hell, God and devil. Denying these truths doesn't make them go away.

  • Interface between Apple TV unit and receiver?

My father-in-law is considering buying an Apple TV unit and is wondering whether his receiver remote will be able to operate the Apple unit or vice versa. The receiver is an Onkyo TX-SR608 with the HDMI inputs.

Also, he is planning to buy it because he wants to digitize his audio library onto his home network and wants to be able to access it from the Apple TV unit to play his selected playlists. Does anyone see a problem with being able to do this?

Lastly, he is having problems with Wi-Fi reception in his living room, so wireless is a problem. We are thinking that going wired to the router may be the best route over a repeater which would cut his bandwidth in half. He doesn't stream video (yet) but that is a possibility, but to wire it would require about a 150 foot run from the router. I know from past experience that the most you can get out of Cat 5 is about 100 meters, so we're running a little less than half that; but we're gonna have to get some good quality Cat 5 for the run. Any suggestions?
