  • Do you have any tips for a Hawaii native considering relocating to the West Coast?

I was born and raised on Oahu and have never lived anywhere else. I'm a single female who's graduated from college and has been working in marketing/PR/publishing. I am considering moving to the mainland because I feel like there'll be more opportunities there - better pay, faster career advancement, lower cost of living, able to meet new people, have diverse experiences, etc. As most locals know, living in Hawaii can make you feel very sheltered and I think I'm ready to experience more of the world.

I have family in Southern California, Utah and Washington State so I'd like to stay on the West Coast. I'd prefer somewhere that doesn't snow but don't necessarily need the beach to be at my doorstep. I'm most interested in working in a similar field as I am now, with a light preference to book publishing.

Any suggestions on specific cities that'll best suit me? Have any tips on relocating, experiences of other ex-Hawaii natives moving to the mainland, cost of living, jobs availability, etc? All comments are appreciated. Mahalo.
