Hello. I'm in 8th grade Language Arts and I would love it if you could edit my short narrative essay! The teacher is mainly checking for language mechanics, sentence structure, thorough past or present tense, many transitions, punctuation, no "it" or "that" words, and clear events.

If I put a star ( * ) next to a sentence or phrase, it means that I'm not sure if that section is right.

Any revises or corrections will be GREATLY appreciated!

Also, this essay is free-verse. I don't need a theme or introduction sentence or anything else like that.

Essay:

My parents never fought. Nevertheless, I woke up one sunny morning and hear my older sister crying. My dad wasn't home, but I assumed he was at work. **Then my mom told me her and my dad were getting a divorce. This was shocking because I was only six years old. At first I was confused and had to be told exactly what divorce meant. I thought divorce meant the mom and dad were getting remarried. I was wrong. After a minute or two, I started to cry because I fully understood what divorce meant.

The weather contradicted with our moods. My siblings and I were so upset and mad with my parents. The next few weeks were the worst of my life. My parents decided the living situation would be best if the kids lived with my mom. One day, I remember realizing I wouldn't see my dad everyday.

My dad moved into an apartment for a few months while he was looking for a new house. Everything was different, but I still got to see him every few days or on the weekend. My siblings and I helped my dad pick out a house. He was into fishing and the mountains. He decided to live in Lake Arrowhead, only 45 minutes away.

We made it a routine to visit him almost every weekend. All of us had fun even though we were still sad. I didn't think much of all the outings, but he took us out on a lot of adventures to have fun and get used to having him gone. We went to baseball games, lakes, theme parks, and many restaurants.

After a few months, everything started to seem normal again. **Even though I wished my parents were still together and I could erase those terrible months of my life, I'm happy with how everything turned out.

Divorces are hard on every person in the family, not just the parent. Although I was pretty young and didn't understand everything, **those months were the most difficult time in my life.

(Just in case you're wondering, my teacher gave us permission to use the computer, family members, and friends to help us edit our essays. Thanks!)

He does other things but on average he spends 2-3 hours playing Call of Duty or a Pixar cars game. He also doesnt have the best diet but he is in NO way overweight. My mom doesnt think much of it but helps a little. Me and my sister and the ones who cares most about this situation. He hasnt started Kindergarten yet because he just turned 5. He sometimes play for 4 hours a day and sometimes doesnt play for a day. Thankfully, he promised no video games tomorrow. So thats good! But then the next day he will most likely go back to the games. How do I help him get away from video games and play much less?

If they crave it, then that means they should eat the real thing!
