Is my Mystery snail dying?
He isn't really moving, and his antennae are
curled up :/ he's just sitting on the gravel. I picked him up, and he made a half hearted attempt to go back into his shell; he never made it all the way. Is he dying ? And what can I do for him ?
2 AnswersFish1 decade agoCycling nightmare with 5gal tank?
I have a 5 gallon tank. I recently had a power outage , and now my tanks nitrogen cycling has reset itself. it's been about a month , and still the biofiter hasn't biult up again ! My fish are alive and well due to my constant 3x a day water changes, but it's tiring ! What can I do ! I tried seeding it, and I've tried seachem stability -_-
2 AnswersFish1 decade agoNeed help with feeding arragements!?
I have 2 cories, one orange sunset Platy, and a mystery snail. How when, and what do you suggest I feed them to ensure they all recieve proper nutrition?
For example, the platy was brought up on flake food, and comes to the top for food, so no problem. Would an algae wafer be suffiecent for the cories ? And how about the snail? I'm not even sure how to feed him, he's new :)
2 AnswersFish1 decade agoIs this a horrible 5 gallon stocking ?
I have:

is this horribly overstocked? It's all my current living arrangements will allow.

2 AnswersFish1 decade ago5 gallon tank cycling help ??? ?
I have a 5 gallon tank that I was bamboozled into purchasing at a local petshop. The shameless clerk sent me home with a 5 gallon tank with filter and heater, and 2 corycats. I know now that my corys would enjoy a bigger tank, but I'm attached to them, and I have no room (or funds) for a bigger tank. I'm about a month in, and my tank just isn't showing any signs of cycling. I though perhaps low oxygen conditions where to blame, so I bought an airstone and airpump. I'm dechlorinating the water and doing changes to keep my fish healthy twice a day. If you need any additional details, let me know, I'll post them! Thanks :)
3 AnswersFish1 decade agoNon-fish options for freshwater tank?
I would like some options for a non-fish addition to my tank. I would like for them to have a light bioload if possible. Any ideas ?

2 AnswersFish1 decade ago30 gallon freshwater tank help?
I am in the process of aquiring a 30gal aquarium. I have two questions;
1) what would be the bet way to cycle the tank once I set it up?
2) what types of fish in which combinations would be advisable for a novice fishkeeper?
Also, I would like to use my 5gal as a hospital tank, would that be ok?
I appreciate all feedback.
4 AnswersFish1 decade agoTropical fish tank advice ?
Because of some ill advice I recieved from a clueless pet store employee, I now own a 5 gallon fishtank with 2 corydoras. It's a long story. The tanks cycle has still not regulated itself and it's been two weeks. still, i'm getting ammonia readings of .25-.50 . I always do an immediate water change, but it seems to get right up there within a day or so. the substrate is clean, as are the ornaments. The water is the correct temp, and is visually clean. I have a Marina 210s dual media filter. How should I deal with the ammonia until the cycle regulates itself? what % water change should I do etc, to keep my fish healthy and alive? I'm still a novice at this, but I have done my research, and am familiar with the basics of fish/aquarium care. Help!
5 AnswersFish1 decade agoHelp with my tropical fishtank?
I have a 5 gallon tank with 2 corys. It isn't cycling properly. I would like to dispell these as either true or false:
1) is it true Seachem stability converts ammonia to non-toxic ammonia compounds?
2) I've heard it said it is IMPOSSIBLE to cycle a 5 gallon tank. True or false?
3) how frequently should I do water changes so as to not disturb the cycle, but keep my fish healthy?
4) how can I maximize my tank conditions for it to cycle?
I use water conditioner and seachem stability, so water prep is not my issue.
HELP! <3
2 AnswersFish1 decade agoWhy won't my tropical tank cycle?
I have had it for about a month. It is a 5 gallon tank with a heater and dual media Marina s110 filter. I started with one betta fish. He mysteriously vanished, and I now have two Corycats. They are active and healthy, but I'm still seeing ammonia spikes. I do an immediate water change for the high ammonia. Can anyone explain why my tank isn't balanced ? I've been using the recommended dose of Seachem Stability as well with wate changes. Advice? Please help!
6 AnswersFish1 decade agoHelp with my aquarium please ?
The people at the petstore sold me a 5 gallon tank, heater, filter, and several fish. I've had it about a week, and all the fish have dropped dead. They didn't explain anything about cycling a tank to me, and I am a complete novice. I have a betta and a corycat in it now, and I think the tank is cycling now, it has clouded (which I imagine is due to a bacterial bloom?). Someone PLEASE give me a breakdown on what to do now ! :(
4 AnswersFish1 decade agoAquarium help? Fish are dying :(?
I had 5 neons, 2 Priscilla tetras, one coreycat, 10 ghost shrimp and one male betta. I took the shrimp out, and 3 neons died. I now have 2neons, the 2 Priscilla tetras , the betta, and the Cory cat. Is my 5 gal tank overstocked now? And are the Priscilla tetras hardy enough to withstand cycling?
8 AnswersFish1 decade agoFishtank help? High ammonia levels.?
My ammonia levels are really high... I did a 25% water change, then a 75% water change, and it's still around .50ppm. what should I/ can I do?
4 AnswersFish1 decade agoDo you think my freshwater tank is overstocked?
I have an extremely docile male betta, 5 neon tetras, one coreycat, and 10 ghost shrimp. They all seem content and active. It is a 5 gallon tank with filter and heater.
8 AnswersFish1 decade agoLethargic New Betta fish help?
Yesterday I bought a betta fish with a "betta kit". The kit includes a 1/2us gal aquarium, a bottle of water conditioner, a packet of food, a plastic aquatic plant, and some aquarium gravel.
I followed the instructions, and today my fish seems very lethargic. He either sits on the bottom of his tank, still, of sits in the rubber plant with his mouth at the waters edge, unmoving.
Is there a problem, or is he just acclimating to his new enviroment ?
