Phineas Gage

I used to work in railroad construction. One day, I had to remove some rock with explosives. I was packing gunpowder into a rock hole with a three-foot long iron bar, when an accidental spark caused an explosion. The iron bar was blown upwards under my cheek, behind my eye, and out the top of my head (see my avatar photo) The left frontal lobe of my brain was severely damaged and almost completely destroyed. However, not only did I survive the accident but when I regained consciousness I had the presence of mind to record the time I worked to make sure I got paid.
