Purveyor of Truth (Steve B v.2)
I don't know everything, nor do I claim to. I will say this though, I wouldn't waste my time giving you my answer if it was purely opinion with no factual basis. People need to understand that this site is full of users of all ages, backgrounds, educational history, and geographic location. More than that, this site is a huge waste of time, nothing more, nothing less. We all come here to share what we know or to learn something new, not to be harassed or insulted. However, tread on me, and I'll stomp all over you. Thanks for stopping by!
Maybe I misunderstood what a Judge is supposed to do.?
"Judge: a public official authorized to decide questions brought before a court of justice." (From Google definitions) From what I've been taught in all of my years in the legal field, judges interpret the law. That's their job, it's what they were elected to do. If we didn't want judges interpreting laws, we wouldn't have them right their opinions after they decide a case. With this said, here's my question:
Although Supreme Court nominee Sotomayor said something questionably racist 8 YEARS AGO, why does it matter? She's saying her experiences make her more qualified than a white guy who hasn't been through what she's been through. From a legal and Sociological standpoint, she's right! (Degree in Legal Studies and Sociology (UCF))What's the big deal? Judges cannot be totally unbiased on everything, her environment has of course altered the way she thinks and sees the world, why don't we wait to see how she rules before we pass this much judgment on a judge.
3 AnswersLaw & Ethics1 decade agoI could use some intelligent help. Speech Problems?
The longer the question, the better qualified answers, I hope.
I'm not really one to ask questions on here so I could really use some intelligent help. Ever since I was a kid, I've always talked fast. I realized that and have ever since been focusing on slowing down my words and enunciating. That's not the issue, I can now speak slower and am understood more frequently.
The issue is that now that I have slowed down my words, my brain has sped up. I'm a pretty knowledgeable person, I got near perfect scores in college, and am proud to share what I know. My problem is that whenever I try to tell someone something that I know or recall a story, I can't get through it the first time. My brain is working so fast to find the right words to say that I have to stop and start over. I wouldn't call it a stutter, I don't think, because I don't even attempt to get through the sentence anymore. I give up.I can almost see the word I want to say and pick the right ones, I'm thinking too fast.
I also try and anticipate how the reciever of the message I'm sending is taking it all in, so I try to think about how I need to word what I'm saying so they understand and comprehend my story/anecdote/etc.
It's getting worse and I'm getting worried. I plan on practice law and am an amazing people person. I don't want this newfound impediment to hinder my future.
P.S. It's happening when I type as well, I just completely leave out words sometimes; not sure if that's related though. Any help would be appreciated. I know this is a long question, but I'm too proud a person to seek professional help right now.
I didn't know where to categorize my question but I'm regular white guy who needs some advice.
