Disability retired from engineering work on high steel construction, with a bad back. CRUNCH! Then was a computer programmer till I became too messed up for that. Opened my own motorcycle shop and ran it for 15 years. Built computer systems in my spare time as a hobby. Taught myself HTML and build web pages for my friends, one of these days I will do one for myself. Now I am studying Linux and building a Linux box as my next computer. Read voraciously, buy books online and spend as much on books as food. Have 2 kids, boy and girl, and a fabulous wife. She is a tax preparer so I spend a lot more time on Answers during tax season than any other time. (LOL) I wish my avatar could br more detailed with salt and pepper hair in a ponytail, and a medium beard, a watch cap and an earring. At least I got one made that showed my eye patch. I'm an old time biker, riding bikes since 1965 and Harleys since 1975. I'm also an old time programmer, to whom DOS was an big innovation!

  • Does anyone make a trackball with a retaining ring?

I have used trackballs in the past. I like their look and feel. My old notebook had an included trackball. It died and now I am in the market again. I am disabled and do most of my shopping over the web. I bought a Kensington that looked like it would meet my needs. The trackball had no retaining device, and if I did not take great care with it, the marble would fall out, roll across the room and lodge someplace I could not reach. (Murphy's Law)

Does anyone know of a simple optical trackball with USB connection that has a retaining ring of some type to keep the marble from escaping at inopportune moments.

Cost is somewhat of an issue as I am not wealthy just Social Security. I have a collection of marble-less trackballs. (And I hate to think of what they have cost me.) I can sometimes get a replacement marble through customer service, but it takes a while and they lose interest in replacing marbles before I stop losing them.

My only requirements are optical, USB connected, left and right buttons and retaining ring. I can go as high as I need to to go to get a retaining ring of some sort. Bells and whistles are nice but I can't think of many I would use: 1. I will be USB connected as I have a wife who has a cardiac implant and I steer clear of wireless and Bluetooth as they make her nervous. 2: I got sick and tired of cleaning manual devices, so optical is a must. The only information that seems to never show up in ads or reviews is whether or not the marble can take off for parts unknown, so I thought I would ask the answers community.
