3 AnswersCell Phones & Plans8 years agoCan I take my kids back home-recently relocated for husbands job, getting a divorce.?
After 10 years of marriage in Nevada...moved to Indiana where my husband is from, we have been here a little over a year. We are now going to get divorced. I have no family and no friends that don't belong to my husband, nothing to keep me here. My job is still in Nevada and they have let me work from home for the last year, but its hard to work from home. What are the chances I will be able to take my kids back to Las vegas with me?
6 AnswersMarriage & Divorce8 years agoHuman resource professionals, please help! Question about benefits.?
We have an employee that had a baby & did not add the new baby to our group insurance plan within the 30 day window. We asked the insurance to grant an exception, but they did not.
The company went through our broker to see about getting an individual policy for the baby & intends on paying for that policy in full. Can we get in trouble for this by offering one employee a specific benefit? We pick up 80% of the cost of an employees health insurance, he is already on the family plan & adding his baby would not have increased his or our cost share if he would have done it on time. If we do pay for this in full, can others come back & ask us to pay 100% of their dependents cost, like we are doing for this one individual. Any assistance would be appreciated, I have been searching the net, but coming up empty. I have looked at EEOC website, I have looked on our State Labor website (Nevada). I just can't find anything outlining if benefits have to adminstered equally.
Any resource, or a point in the right direction would be appreciated.
If you need additional details, feel free to email me or ask it here. Thanks to all that take the time to answer.
1 AnswerOther - Business & Finance1 decade agoCan an employer pay one specific benefit to one employee?
We have an employee who had a baby & did not inform us until after the 30 day window where they could add the baby onto the insurance policy. We tried to see if the insurance would take an exception, but they would not. Our insurance broker got quotes to get the baby an individual policy, and the company intends to pay for it in full...
My question is, is this allowed? Our normal employee/employer cost share is 20/80, where the employee is responsible for 20 percent & the employer pays for the rest. If the company elects to pay for 100% for an outside policy for an individual, can that be considered some sort of discrimination where you provide benefits to one employee but not others? Can others then come back & ask us to pay 100% of their dependants coverage?
If anyone has a resource, that would be appreciated, or if you need additional information, please just ask.
Thank you all who take the time to answer.
1 AnswerOther - Business & Finance1 decade agoCan my employer choose to ignore my direct deposit on file?
I live in Nevada, we are receiving bonuses & the management decided to cut them all as live checks. I really do not want a live check, I want it to be direct deposited. Can they ignore the request I have on file & give me a live check. I understand if they needed to do it for reasons of just getting me paid, but they are choosing this. Can they do that?
5 AnswersLaw & Legal1 decade agoHow do I tell employees they can't claim "exempt" on their w-4 for one pay period.?
We are getting paid a bonus & many employees want to claim "exempt". I don't want our employees or the company to get into trouble for them claiming exempt when they do not meet the criteria. I am trying to find some IRS publication that outlines how they can get in trouble, and why I won't let them claim exempt. Can anyone help out. The arguement I am getting is that I have no way of knowing if they meet the criteria for exempt, so they should be able to claim it & I should honor it.
7 AnswersUnited States1 decade agoQuestion about bonuses-employees claiming exempt.?
We are paying out bonuses on March 13th, which corresponds to our normal payoll paydate. We have people who want to turn in a w-4 to claim "exempt" for the bonus & have normal taxes deducted from that regular check. Is there any compliance issues with running the regular payroll & the bonus check on the same paydate, and having one exempt & one at regular withholding rates?
2 AnswersUnited States1 decade agoEmployment promise broken, do I have any recourse.?
I have worked for this company for 3 years. I was told that I was elligible to a 15% discretionary bonus on my salary-it doesn't specify the percent in my offer letter, but it is what I received the first year & that is how it is written into our budgets.
Last year due to issues with our CFO, he reduced my bonus (no documentation of his issues-nothing negative put into my personnel file ever), he had our director of Finance deliver the message that "due to some issues you & the CFO have previously talked about, your bonus has been determined at 10% this year, but based on your performance next year, you are still elligible for 15%. I told him that I did not agree, but welcomed the opportunity to show him that I deserved my full bonus.
Now this year, that CFO was run out of the company, the same director of finance comes back & says that everyone is getting what they got last year. I said, well, you know I should have been considered at 15%. He admitted that he forgot & it was not addressed specifically & that everyone got what they got last year.
Do I have any recourse? It seems like a verbal breech of contract that I would be considered to get my full bonus, but it was not considered, it was determined to give everyone what they got the prior year. In my opinion, they just don't want to go back to the board & say they made a mistake, so I suffer. I was told it would be considered & it was not.
Thanks for all that reply & if you have any questions, please feel free to ask them here or email me.
2 AnswersLaw & Legal1 decade agoElisabth Hasselback getting bend out of shape (no pun intended) about WII fit calling kids obese?
Can anyone explain to me why there is a problem with this?
This is just like the "everyone gets a trophy in soccer-you're all winners" and "don't use red ink to grade papers-it might intimidate the child" Come on, can't we just call things what they are. Obese is a medically defined term...if you fall into that...its just a term, its how you view yourself that's important. Lets teach kids to have self confidence no matter what their weight, or if there team is in last place, or they are not the smartest kid in class...not stop the competition, and grading, and calling things what they are.
Any thoughts? I'm sure you have an opinion.

1 AnswerOther - Taxes1 decade agoI have a 1099 MISC question.?
If you bring a potential employment candidate in for an interview & reimburse their expenses, do you have to sent them a 1099? I think the answer is yes, but I am not sure.
2 AnswersOther - Taxes1 decade agoWhat is something your parents said to you, that you swore you would never say to your kids...& did anyway?
I heard "because I said so" from the time I popped out of the womb & I am 36 & she still says it. So, I swore that I would never say it to my kids, that I would at least expand on why he had to do whatever it is that I tell him to do...my son will be 7 next week & I finally said it to him.

We all fuss over the little crap they do wrong, how about what they do right?
Today I appreciate that my husband always holds doors for other people, him getting the door for me is no big deal, but I love to see him being considerate of others.

16 AnswersMarriage & Divorce1 decade agoSeverance pay & associated payroll taxes?
I am looking for the IRS guidelines on if severance pay is taxable or not. We have an executive that was given bonus payments of like 28K quarterly in 2008 (he stopped regularly working for us in June, but needed to supply certain info to us in order to get the payments) In 2009 he gets like 55K quarterly but does not have to provide any services, how is this taxed?
Just ask more questions if you need more info.
4 AnswersOther - Taxes1 decade agoHow did your kids find out there was no Santa? I said something dumb.?
Frustrated with Moon Sand. My son had been bugging me since it came out & I kept telling him "no". Well it was 50 % off, so I got it for him from Santa. After he opened it, he said, "mom, maybe Santa didn't know you didn't want me to have this." He's 6. I said if it was from Santa, then its OK. Later after opening it & finding out that it doesn't even come with storage things for the sand, its just in bags, that don't even reclose, how ridiculous is that! I said, I knew I shouldn't have bought this, I can't beleive I wasted money on this & my son looked at me & said, I thought Santa bought this! and started crying. I think I just ruined Santa for my son!
OK I feel like the biggest heel.
6 AnswersChristmas1 decade agoWhat were your Christmas present problems yesterday?
We had a few bad moments, 2.5 yr old opened a present from her grandma & started crying, its like a real live lion cub. It wasn't even moving & growling yet & she burst into tears & went running out of the room. One present was "warped" which we didn't realize until after we had taken all the pieces out (its a littlest pet shop & had 7 pets, with like 10 tiny accessories, try finding that in X-mas aftermath & also trying to put it away with the 2.5 yr old begging & screaming that she wasn't to play with the little puppies. Another toy Dora, its batteries were dead & we take off the panel & it takes like those round watch batteries, who keeps those in the house?
My son grabbed the new WII, and was going to set it down so he could sit on the floor & open it & dropped it from about a foot off the floor. Its seems OK after we opened it, but you can imagine the heart attack my husband had.
Hope you all had a merry X-mas!
5 AnswersChristmas1 decade agoWhat is the worst case of mistaken "drink-entity" (drank something that wasn't what you thought it was). FUNNY?
OK I know you all have done it, taken a drink of something that you thought was something else. Like Vodka when you thought it was water.
I just did the stupidest thing. I grabbed a drink at work. I always drink water, but made a conscious decision to get a Pepsi, since i have a headache-thought the caffeine would help. Opened & took a drink while doing something else & my brain was expecting water & I was "shocked" when I took the drink & I spit it out all over my desk & my clothes & the project I was working on. What an idiot!
Anyone got any good stories?
1 AnswerPolls & Surveys1 decade agoAnyone else having a crappy day?
The best person that I have ever worked with just gave his notice. He's about the most intelligent, conscientious, thoughtful, humble & just all around nicest guy & he just gave notice. Granted our company has been falling apart at the seams. We are in a very high demand industry & we have lost 4 of our top people in the last 6 months & I keep wondering about our competitiveness. We design solar power plants & we lost our Director of Engineering (the main design person for the facilities) our head of R&D, our CFO & now this our financial analyst (15 years experience & just a wealth of knowledge). Its been a bad day, can anyone cheer me up?

Mine is small, its when my daughter came downstairs when she could talk, at 2.5 years & saw the presents & said "Mommy, presents from Santa Claus! Princess open now?" It was the cutest thing I ever heard.
